"Like I said, you guys are pretty full of yourselves."

Like I said...The Daily Universe and the ever popular...the world is our campus is all that byu needs to say. LOL!

"I'm not saying BYU is anything special, but you guys need to get out of the Wasatch Front once in a while and see the real world."

A byu fan proclaiming that others need to see the real world is simply priceless.

I really enjoy the news regarding Utah's facilities upgrades. The byu faithful flock to these boards and show, in no uncertain terms, how scared they are of becoming irrelevant. You people know it's coming.

LOL at your delusional spin.

BYU didn't pad any schedule with guaranteed wins; BYU scheduled who they could to fill up their schedule on short notice after declaring Independence. Football schedules are made up years, sometimes decades, in advance. BYU had no choice but to schedule the handful of teams that still had openings in their schedule for 2011 and 2012. In the process, BYU also managed to schedule a bunch of teams like Notre Dame, Texas, Wisconsin, Boise State, and Georgia Tech, proving that your claim of scheduling automatic wins is completely false.

On the other hand, OOC basketball schedules are made up yearly. There's absolutely no excuse for Utah scheduling the absolute worst pre-season schedule in the country, other than Hill and Kristko padding Utah's schedule with guaranteed wins.

Yeah - that new football facility really did magic for the football program. Just curious - why are they reducing the seating capacity of the Huntsman Center? Must have been something the Gymnastics program requested.

I'm sure it will be a nice facility but the utah "fan" gushing over it is pretty funny. utah is a bad basketball program right now, BYU is a good one. That is just the way it is.

Actually this is a great idea. Who knows, once this new facility comes on line, the Utes might leap past Weber State and become the 3rd best basketball program in Utah.

Well, 2014 will be four years into the independence experiment. Have you seen the schedule Holmoe put together for next year? It's every bit as sorry as 2011. So, LOL at your wishful thinking.

You make a statement of fact and you are absolutely wrong, at least in Utah's case. The 2013 pre-conference schedule was put in place two years ago. Considering where the Utes were two years ago, this schedule would be about right. However, the Utes are light years ahead of where they were two years ago and are now playing competition well below them. It is what it is.

Maybe you haven't noticed but the Utah Athletic Administration is making no apologies and Utah fans are not making excuses. The University of Utah certainly doesn't need a hall pass from byu fans.

However, if you want to talk schedules...how about that awesome conference line up byu has?

@Rational et al,

And for those of you who think "gyms" are not where real teams play, come out here and watch some of our East Coast teams play in smaller arenas. There's some awesome basketball. Even in the WCC, St. Marys and Gonzaga could beat your Utes any day of the week, in their "gyms".

_________

Look no further than BYU. They have already lost to St. Mary's and Gonzaga in their "gyms."

Really you are going to talk about who BYU has lost to?
Utah losses last year.
Sac State, Cal State Northridge, SMU, Washington State (13-19), Oregon State (13-19), USC (14-18)
The year before
Adams State, at Boise State
Montana State
Harvard
Massachusetts
UNC Asheville
Fresno State
BYU lost to Saint Mary's and Gonzaga yes but they have gone to the NCAA tournament both years.

Should be a great complex.

It's funny how much this stuff gets under the skin of coug fans. It seems obvious you guys aren't too confident that your recent dominance over the Utes will continue much longer - otherwise an article/announcement like this shouldn't serve much motivation for commenting.

No, there is no excuse. Hill and Coach K have said that this year's schedule was put together to help install some confidence in the program. Utah is still rebuilding afterall. Ute fans understand that. I don't know where the disconnect is with BYU fans.

Has Jon Huntsman ever been to any other Pac-12 school? To say that the new facility will be the best in the country is laughable. Has he ever been to Oregon? They built a brand new $236 million facility that is unbelievable. To throw $36 mil at something is like a band aid as far as facilities are concerned.

This new facility will suffice just fine, thank you very much. Oh, and thanks for stopping by.

Right on point...I could not agree more. I haven't seen this much basketball smack from byu fans in years. They get more agitated the farther behind they fall. First it was football and now the writing is on the wall for basketball. Kind of fun, don't you think?

Do any of you really think he thinks it's the biggest or best in the country? Let's use our heads for a minute before speaking. If he promotes it that way, the money will actually arrive on the private half.

Saying, "hey, it's the 91st best facility, but your money will really help push us into the top 90", isn't very persuasive when inspiring deep pockets to fork over a little dough.

"Utes are light years ahead of where they were two years ago and are now playing competition well below them. It is what it is."

Are you being for real? Well below them? There is a reason Dr. Hill scheduled a weak non-conference slate. They threw in the towel on any hopes of a post season appearance when they scheduled savannah st, grand canyon, saint katherines, lamar, idaho state etc. The Pac-12 media picked the utes to finish 9th for a reason. It was even 5 pts out from being 11th.

If utah wants to recruit with the big boys in the conference they need a facility that is a game changer, and not one that most programs already have.

STLute
St. Louis, MO

The new facility will be nice, but conference wins will improve recruiting greater than anything else. Wins beats everything else. They showed improvement in conference last year and I expect they will improve more this year too, bad non-conference schedule aside. It's still a slow climb out of the gaping hole we were in.

@motorbike

Declaring that the team that is far and away superior is the one that lacks confidence simply smacks of desperation. i'm sure utah will some day improve over what they have been but they still are pretty bad at this point. BYU on the otherhand is obviously quite good, borderline top 25 at this point, and has more talent currently on the team than utah has had in the last decade combined. If you want to throw in what they have on missions and otherwise committed the disparity is even greater.

BYU fans are simply having some fun pointing out the ludicrous comments by huntsman about this thing being 'the best in the country" and utah "fans" actually talking any baksetball smcak at all.

Yes someday in the future utah will have a better basketball team than BYU, nothing remains the same forever, and then some time after that BYU will once again be better than utah. But for now and the forseeable future utah is vastly inferior to BYU, they really don't even compare that is how bad utah is. Enjoy the journey I guess. LOL!

"I haven't seen this much basketball smack from byu fans in years."

Of course you haven't. Your shame for the sorry state of the utah basketball program has kept you from even reading a utah basketball article, let alone the comment section, in more than half a decade. You can't see it if you are to humiliated to even read it. LOL!

Great to hear. The Runnin Utes are the premier basketball program in the state of Utah. Their is no debate, let me know when your team makes a final four appearance.

All of the points you raise are absolutely true. What you failed to understand from my post is that when this schedule was put together two years ago, the thinking was that Utah would be able to compete with this teams. Now, two years later, the Utes are blowing them out. With that bit of context, the pre=conference competition the Utes have this year is below them.

Duck,
I have read the articles and even been to the games over the last few years. So, when I say..."I haven't seen this much basketball smack from byu fans in years," it's based on experience.

That said, it's great to have you and your friends stop by now. It's wonderful knowing that byu fans like yourself don't like what Utah is doing. Keep talking.

btw...no one has said Utah doesn't have a long way to go. But, watching our program turn around is indeed an enjoyable journey. So, thanks for the well wishes.
