The mascot is for the fans, not for the politicians or the people who are looking for something to be offended at.

The mascot doesn't have to be related to the team name. NBA mascots often have nothing to do with the team name (Bear - Jazz, Gorilla - Suns, 76ers - Moose, etc).

But the article is right... the mascot is for the fans, so the fans (who fund the team) should be on board before they change it. Teams should not be forced to change their mascot by outside political-correctness police forces.

Try as I might, I can't see the problem with naming a team the Redskins. It seems to me as a name that is giving honor and is respectful of Indians.
