These continuing calls for Lee and Cruz to return to the moderate fold are becoming tiring.

I used to think that the Democratic Party was the biggest threat to our liberty and economic future. But I now believe that it is the mainstream Republicans that will be the end of our republic by continually enabling the Democrats in their excessive spending and endless growth of government power.

It's clear that Lee’s purported re-thinking the goals of the GOP IS just another case of political expediency to regain the support of GOP moderates. Nothing more, nothing less, as can be seen from his actions over time. Business as usual for Lee.

Mike Lee is like the boy who cried wolf too often. After a time, people lose all trust, which is hard to regain. Actions speak louder than words, and his actions so far do not match his new and softer rhetoric.

There are 100 Senators. Ninety-seven of them are living in a fantasy world where they rule and reign with impunity. Three, including Mike Lee, live in the real world, a world where they have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution, a world where they respect the limits placed on the Federal Government by that Constitution. Mike Lee has done nothing to break his oath of office. He has stood firm in his effort to keep the Senate focused on its duties. He has turned a deaf ear to the whines of lazy people who want the Federal Government to rescue them from themselves.

What we need is 100 Senators who keep their oath of office, who uphold the Constitution, who stand firm even when the President uses Air Force One to travel the country to campaign against them.

Our senior Senator could learn a lot from Mike Lee. Lee keeps his campaign promises. Our senior Senator and the other 96 Senators who have abdicated their responsibility to uphold the Constitution have forgotten everything they promised while they campaigned.

But Mike Lee was right all along. The Pres closed the government down. Cruz & Lee had no authority to do it, and they tried to finance everything but obamacare Now we understand how right they were.

don't know what happened --
I'll try again...

I don't care how much Mike Lee has changed.
I don't care if now Mike Lee has enough lobby money to make his house payments,
I don't care if the "new and improved" version of Mike Lee has now Flip-Flopped, and Etch-a-Sketched into a more moderate RINO.
I don't care if Mike Lee has decided to turn is GOP Tea-Party Caucus membership card.

I work at Hill AFB.
I lost 45 days to sequestraion,
and 16 days to his "I didn't get my way" Government Shut-down.

This is far beyond "politics",
to me -- what he did was very VERY Personal.

True --
Jesus said we should forgive those "which despitefully USE you",
He just didn't say when...

LDS Liberal,

Please clarify a point. You said that you lost 16 days due to Obama shutting down the government. Obama told us that everyone would be paid for the time lost. Have you been or will you be paid for those sixteen days? Do you think that the American People should pay you for NOT working?

Do you think that the Senate had the authority to shut down the government or was that an executive decision? Mike Lee did not cost you a dime. He did not shut down anything. The House passed a budget that funded everything except ObamaCare. The House has the authority to pass tax bills, bills that can authorize or de-authorize taxes. That is their Constitutional duty. Harry Reid rejected the House budget and originated his own budget bill.

Congress has every right to force the government to live within its means. Sequestration was the President's idea. He proposed it. Why do you lay the blame for sequestration on Mike Lee?

What is the "tea-party-induced fantasy" Ken writes about?

Is it the fantasy of wanting smaller more locally controlled government? (Which is the fantasy the Founding Fathers had as well).

Is it the fantasy of wanting lower taxes? (which is also a fantasy the founding fathers had).

Is it the fantasy of wanting the Federal Government to function WITHIN the bounds spelled out in the Constitution? (which is also something I think the Founding Fathers wanted).

Maybe the Founding Fathers of our country and Mike Lee suffer from the same fantasy?

Maybe the enlightened elite who think they know better than the Constitution and our founding fathers are the ones suffering from a "Fantasy".

BTW... Whats with all the talk about "Forgiveness" and "Redemption" for Mike Lee? Does Lee need to REPENT? Repent for what"?

For sinning against Gods of Government???
Sinning against Democrats?
Sinning against Progressive-Republicans like Hatch and Bennett?

All Lee did was be himself... is THAT a sin?

Mike Lee NOW insists he is for inclusiveness, kindness, and compassion for the poor and needy. Reminds me of Winston Smith rewriting history every day in the novel 1984. Somewhere George Orwell is having a good laugh.

1) Gerson is doing wishful thinking. Mike Lee has always recognized that we're all in this together. The Constitution is our contract.

2) Mike Lee's position has been vindicated by events. Obamacare is a train wreck. Obama should have negotiated instead of shutting down the government to preserve this fiasco.

3) Limited government, greater individual liberty, and lower taxes, are worthy aims.

4) You're a good man, but I think you have misunderstood the tea party.

Mike said: "There are 100 Senators. Ninety-seven of them are living in a fantasy world where they rule and reign with impunity. "

...or 97% are doing their job, and a fringe group of 3% are throwing a tantrum because they are power hungry children with bumper sticker solutions to complex problems, that only simpletons seem to think are workable, in their fringe echo chamber world.

Less government, isn't increased military.
More restrictions on moral laws isn't more liberty.
Lower Taxes, great! lets not start anymore wars for our Military Industrial Complex.

the comments about Mike Lee leave me scratching my head. Are you people talking about the same Mike Lee that promised he would go to Washington to teach those rubes about the Constitution?

Isn't supporting the Constitution part of their job? How can Lee block funding for a law that has been supported by the right wing Supremes? How can Lee walk away from a personal $400K obligation that he signed to buy his house?

When Lee didn't get his way, he made it a personal goal to defy the laws of the land (anti-constitutional behavior)

Mike Lee went to DC to get rich. He tried to start his own personal piggy bank (PAC) to dip into at will and was shot down. Doesn't he know about the Constitution and laws of the land?

Mike Lee is not a Constitutional Scholar, he is a petulant boy that because a Constipational Scowler.

Any Republican incumbents willing to be known as "moderates", let alone "communitarians" can count on one thing - a primary challenge from the right. Having been a successful challenger, Lee can be counted on to stay clear of moderation of any kind.

I thought Mike Lee "stood" for something.
Now he caves.

Meet the "new and improved" Mike Lee,
The "kinder, gentler" Mike Lee,
The "Compassionate, Conservative" Mike Lee,
The "Moderate, somewhere in the Middle" Mike Lee.
The "Compromising, We're in this all together, Statesman" Mike Lee.

Here is the reality that I hope Mike Lee has realized - that he represents a plurality of people. Some of those people are Constitution Thumping Tea Party type. They are the evangelicals of the political world, and are just as much of the fabric that makes America so powerful. But he has also hopefully realized is that he also represents others who live in his district, that aren't as extreme in their beliefs, and that he needs to strike a balance that represents the plurality of the people in his district.

I know as shocking as it may seem, even in Utah Valley there is a multiplicity of people and opinions that live in that small enclave of ultra conservatism. He represents everyone in that district... not just the armed to the rafters patriot crowd.

That has been the most frustrating thing about Senator Lee. He acts like the state of Utah is 100% tea party, and that no other viewpoints exist. He insulates himself into a bubble by refusing to hold any meetings in Salt Lake, instead choosing to hold town hall meetings in rural utah, Utah County and Davis county, all conservative strongholds. He's so afraid of ideas that aren't lock step with his own he refuses to even meet with constituents that live in areas that might vote for a Democrat. While I don't love Orrin Hatch at least the man has the guts to come to SLC and have people disagree with him. Mike Lee is a precious princess that can't stand anyone who doesn't fall 100% in line with his views.

In case you don't know (which you probably don't)
only 50% of those working at Hill AFB are direct Federal employees.

The rest are contractors working for - gasp! - PRIVATE companies.

Only the direct Federal employees got back pay,
the civilan private employees got a big fat ZERO.
No work, No pay.
Just the way you like it.

There, are you happy?

Yes,
Mike Lee hurt a LOT of people.

Why do you think is now singing a very differnt tune?

Where in this great country, is this not true? Why don't you leftists practice what you preach? Why shouldn't he just take a page out of the bho/pelosi/schumer/Clinton/reid playbook, and just thumb his nose at the segment of the population that he doesn't agree with?
