Should be 4-0 after this weekend!

We are fortunate to have coach Rose. What a great example for a BYU coach. Both our basketball coaches (men & women) are really professional and real gentlemen. I cannot understand how any player could decline a scholarship offer from either one.

Yes. . . it was a great week for Cougar basketball.

But BYU has got to stick to business and play solidly against its non-conference foes over the next six weeks. BYU should have a target on its back if it is able to make it to the WCC season with only one or two losses. Any more than that will be a disappointment after this terrific start.

What I liked most about this article was Tyler Haws' recognition that there are many things far more important in life than basketball. I admire him as a person. He and his brother come from "good stock."

Looking forward to tracking BYU basketball's progress over the next few years!

Just don't take your foot off the gas pedal.

Such a great time to be a BYU basketball fan.

This team is going to be good for many years to come!

Go Cougars!

After last night's games, the WCC is 22-1, best conference record in the country.

After giving up 112 points to BYU, Stanford only allowed 71 points to Northwestern, one point less than the Cardinal surrendered to Bucknell.

Tonight's game versus Mount Saint Mary's and tomorrow night's game versus Colorado Mesa are part of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, which, for BYU, will continue next week against Texas and either DePaul or Wichita State.

The new officiating standards "freedom of movement for offensive players" should really help our guards. Previously, the only way to stop Tyler Haws was to mug him! Now Haws will have the advantage and will spend a lot of time at the free throw line. Swish Cecil!

BYU accepted their invitation to the CBE Hall of Fame Classic for two reasons:

1. Participants in pre-season tournaments are allowed to play extra games
2. BYU knew that they'd get the chance to play Texas and possibly Wichita State to boost their OOC resume and RPI

Playing quality OOC opponents is looked on favorably by the NCAA Selection Committee when it comes to at-large bids to the tournament.

Rose is a great coach.

Dave Rose and his staff have done a phenomenal job of recruiting. What a great time to be a Cougar basketball fan!

I'm impressed, for sure.

@TheSportsAuthority,

"Playing quality OOC opponents is looked on favorably by the NCAA Selection Committee when it comes to at-large bids to the tournament."

I agree 100%, even more importantly if they win and by how much! I love the way the team is playing now. Sure hope they continue to improve and play hard every game. I'm a little worried about their production from the f/t line though. Even Haws has uncharacteristically missed more than a few ones lately. Other than that, I'm glad to see everyone seemed to have improved their game from last year though, especially Carlino!

Go Cougars!

I'm getting tired of the National TV term. Cable/Satellite TV is not National...

Playing good out of conference is looked upon favorably.

Similarly, so is playing in a good conference, as teams play more conference games than they do out of conference games.

I'll take playing nobodies in out of conference and a powerhouse schedule in conference to playing good teams out of conference and nobodies in conference any day!

And so would byu fans. But in case you needed a reminder, no real conference wants you! Every day, the Big 12 and Pac 12 are essentially telling byu "No thanks" over and over and over.

I love it!

Haws had a full year to prepare for this season and he is going to be even better than last year. It looks like Carlino may have improved and Collinsworth is a great addition to have back. Before the season started I predicted a trip to the sweet 16. Go Cougs!

@ Chris B.
How are they saying no over and over?
Are you in the meetings with those conferences?
Think Sunday play has absolutely no effect? (are you more in tune than the experts)
UVU got an at large invite to the CIT two years ago from the Great West Conference
Utah was in the Pac-12 and got no invite to anything.

The PAC 12 is by far the strongest conference in the world (Even more than the Eastern Conference in the NBA). Even if you go 0-31 on the season, you still can go dancing. Yes, it is that tough. I have it on good authority (B).

They have some of the best fans as well. Did you know that several HUNDRED fans showed up to see the Utes (A PAC 12 team don't you know!) beat Evergreen Junior High? That is more people than Evergreen has at their entire school! Such a great showing!

Be prepared for a great season from every PAC team. They are all going to win out in conference play and will have 12 teams in the tourney. Mark it down with a black marker.

Oh man Cris, yesterday you gave some positive comments on another article. Now a step back today. It doesn't matter where the tough teams play, in or out of conference. It matters that they win. BYU does and has had 25 or more wins each season for the last what, 5 seasons? There's no other way of saying it. Rose is fantastic and has developed a fantastic program. As someone astutely pointed out the WCC is 22-1 so far. Not bad huh Cris?

Congratulations on being selected to be the PAC 12's doormat.

There, do you feel better now?

Back to reality - current record/rankings (Sagarin - similar to other rankings):

Football
#19 BYU(6-3) SOS #10
#29 Utah(4-5) SOS #1

Basketball
#31 BYU(2-0) SOS #90
#120 Utah(1-0) SOS #0 (you haven't played anybody yet, high school teams don't count)

You can have your pre-season nobodies and pretend that the selection committee will only look at your mediocre conference record if it helps you sleep at night, but don't be too surprised when the Utes are left on the outside looking in at another NCAA tournament, as usual.

No Chris B only you care enough about BYU to keep telling us how you feel. You love to hate! But if BYU were of no consequence you would just go away. Hmmmm??

To Chris B,
You are so wrong. Out of conference schedule is weighted more than in conference by the selection committee. I am a byu fan, and I would not trade places with your team for anything. I love where we are and I am so glad the Pac12 would not accommodate us. Anyone who knows, knows that they wanted byu first, before Utah, but they would not accommodate our religious beliefs, no sunday play. You were not their first choice. But I am glad we are where we are, we are truly better off overall.
