Utah is red state, Obama only cares about Blue states- don't ya know that by now?

A point of reference on the healthcare.gov website problems:

A colleague knows some top-flight engineers at Google who've been asked to help solve the ACA website problems. They said some of the issues are pretty difficult, because in most websites you start with a lower level of traffic and then ramp up the resources to handle a growing load.

With this website, the demand is very, very high upfront, with complex transactions and complicated computing, which is difficult to simulate and adjust to at high loads, and then it will diminish pretty dramatically over time. They could have overbuilt the site, then be accused of waste.

The website will be improved, but it's not a trivial task.

Well, we passed the bill so we could find out what was in it. (Nancy Pelosi was so wise.)

@10CC

I salute you sir/ma'am (whichever you are.) You are like a good sailor who is loyal to his/her ship even as the waves are lapping at the lower decks. This healthcare debacle goes WAY beyond website problems. The bill causes immense disruptions to the healthcare industry. The biggest problem we are going to face is the coming doctor shortage. And, unfortunately, Obama is also on tape saying you can keep your doctor.

I think despite the futile efforts of Mitt Romney, Mike Lee, Ted Cruz and a whole slew of conservatives, this law is going to kill itself. Who knew that the key to stopping this disaster was to let it unfold? It had it's own self-destruct mechanism built in.

Improving the website STILL doesn't solve the basic problem with Obamacare. Namely, that too many people will be having to pay much higher premiums (and deductibles)than they had BEFORE the disaster called Obamacare was passed.

Then there's the issue of WHO pay the subsidies! The "subsidies" have to come from somewhere and the people WILL revolt even worse than they are now when they realize how much Obamacare is driving up the national debt. Especially those 120 million that "liked" their insurance coverage just fine - until the government started messing with it.

Obama's "solutions" are basically the same as telling Bowing they can sell DC-3 airplanes again, even though the line was shut down, and all the subcontractors switched to making other things. Three years ago insurance companies were told to stop offering most policies and they obediently shut down their lines and terminated contracts with suppliers.

It may sound good in the world of government bureaucrats, but they simply do not understand the complexities of making a product or service with contractual agreements with doctors and hospitals and approval from state regulators and recalculation of all the costs involved, plus verifying that nothing in the product or service conflicts with federal law or the hundreds of thousands of pages of oversight regulations from HHS, EPA, DHS, IRS, etc.

Obama just does not understand how business works, or is deliberately making more promised he know will not be kept.

Of course, this is all done by Obama to (a) demonize the free enterprise system; (b) set up our health care system for failure and especially (c) set the foundation for government run single payer takeover of health care in the U.S.

Obamacare- it's enough to make anyone sick.

today's press conference had little impact on anything - just a one year delay of the policy cancellation pain. I think people in this country - even many liberals now - have expectation levels at near zero from Barack. Recent polling shows nearly 60% believe he lied about his "you can keep your insurance" promise and his credibility is essentially gone. I think after this round of lies he was caught in even his personal likeability is now tanking as well. The man is arrogant and self serving. Recall when he spoke about the roll out not working a week ago to one of his Obama zombie crowds he first said he was angry because it hurt "HIS" legacy ...then he corrected himself and said it was hurting people all across America who were getting cancellation notices. The man is a legend in his own mind and couldn't really care less about the rest of us. Time you get it people.

Well yeah, only 5% of Americans were even affected by the "keep your insurance" matter so the "fix" was never going to help all that many. That's true for Utah, and California, and every other state. It's not a red vs blue state though of course that didn't stop a lie about that from being posted here in the comments already.

@atl134

"Well yeah, only 5% of Americans were even affected by the "keep your insurance" matter..."

That's 15,000,000 people. Is that not a large number? And this is just the first month. atl134, do you really think that this is the only 'bump in the road' we face? Remember that Obama delayed the employer mandate for a year. This has the potential to get so much worse.

@A1994
you conveniently miss represent the point the point is not that those 15,000,000 do not matter. Tthe point is that the article is misleading in that they claim only 5-7% of Utahans are going to be helped by the law but leave out that only 5-7% were being effected. Let me but it in the form of a question maybe that will help, if only 5 percent is effected why would a change effect 50%?

It is easier to find a dodo bird as a pet than find consistency between states and federal roll out or weather it means the end of the world as we know it or sick people become healthy (healthier) and save this country--the economy billions.

You can't have an aspect of the economy at 16% and not have an impact on Utahns. Utah residents have assets, family and relatives in every state of the Union. This risk with the ACA was not properly run through the courses of public hearings and honest vetting. Vote and then read the ACA is what the leaders told their Congressional and Senatorial elected officers.

This debacle is from a President who hasn't led anything in his life. He has advisers and consultants making his decisions for him and leading us down a path that is known, through dishonesty and deceit.

We have a way to go back up the hill of integrity. To see the look on the President's face is what happens when you are not with our country's citizens. He has done similar actions with other nations and their leaders. Those nations haven't pulled him on the carpet but the NSA, IRS, and now the Healthcare reversal have all shown that our nation has gone down in 5 years.

Insurance commissioners/companies are not far behind in this process of making money going up or down the ACA chain. People lose.

@A1994
" Is that not a large number?"

According to this article, changes affecting around 5% of Utahns (pretty consistent rate state to state) is quote "little impact". So... you can have it one of two ways, I don't really care which, just be consistent. Either a large number of Americans were affected and a large number of Utahn's will be impacted positively by the change. Or, a small percentage of Americans were affected and a small number of Utahn's will be impacted positively. Pick one of those two sets.

The problem with the website is that the law isn't doable and insurance companies already knew that with their finite and infinite calculations on death and health statistics for decades. They are just grateful to have the government to blame for the demise of the ACA and forced marching orders for all involved. Insurance commissioners are involved as Kathleen Sebilius is and to have to work off the game plan of pass it and then read it is not a plan for success, even if there is supposedly a process.

The software programmers and analysts along with the government and government contractors and supervisors subverted the validation processes during the past couple of years writing code and trying to figure out what vetting should have done.

If there was logic to the ACA then it could have been done by third graders and an IPAD. However, there is no logic to made up numbers and processes. This ACA should never have been fast tracked, especially without going through the formal processes. When Senator Reid held Senators in the Chambers on vacation days should have sent a message to vote out those people the next 3 elections.

Life goes on.

I remember one of the talking points about Obamacare, before it was voted on to see what actually in it, was that it was supposed to help the 5% that did not have insurance. Instead it is hurting 5% that did have insurance.

Obama does not give a twit about those who have lost their insurance. What Obama always cares about is Obama. This was purely political and has nothing to do with fixing Brackobamacare. What he is avoiding is the congressional Democrats lining up with Republicans and voting to gut this fiasco. That would wound him legacy wise to have it said even his own party went against him. It is delayed until after the election. You guess why.This bomb is only defused for now. It will go off again when the employer mandates kick in and again when this private policy matter goes off again. He just needed cover right now. He will blamed it all on the insurance companies. For a fact this was all in the plan Obama who is a pure narcassist just didn't think he would lose control of the Dems. Thank you Bill Clinton. We have elected a fraud but most of us knew that.

First the governor says the biggest problem is with the economic impact. The uncertainty of what the Affordable Care Act is doing to the private sector is a big concern. Then he says he is still considering whether to expand Medicaid coverage in Utah. Doesn't this just add to the the uncertainty. I often hear how the admin had 3 years to get this right then I hear republican leaders who across the board have done things like this to hold it up. You can't complain that dinner is late if you are the one who refuses to let the stove be turned on. I will listen to legitimate criticism but only from those who are the cause of the problem or who have shown that no matter what they don't want this to work.

DaudMauddib
kansas city, MO

You say that states where leaders do not choose to expand coverage eligibility would leave the available federal funds on the table, which makes since but lawmakers and others have questioned whether the state should make a decision hinging on uncertain federal funds. What is uncertain about the federal funds. As the law is written the feds would foot the bill for 90% from then on.

"Instead it is hurting 5% that did have insurance."

Having a junk policy that is cheap but doesn't really cover anything when you get sick is not a good thing. That's why Obamacare banned it. The policies that had everything except maternity care or one of the required things on the list, those people can get a similar plan on the exchanges for comparable cost at worst, particularly when the subsidies are factored in. Very few are actually hurting, it's just a lot of people are scared of change, especially when there's a group of politicians and talk radio hosts telling them this is going to be some great disaster.

There you go again. You and Obama thinks that those policies are not good. And of course liberals always think they know best. How about those who have those policies and like them make their own choice instead of a proven liar and his minions decide for them.

Bountiful UT is 100% right. He explained it just like it was meant. Now I have heard talk that there was a lot of money going around 24 Hr. before it went on line. We all know there many that did not want this to work. I think thousands were told to go on line A.S.A.P. and crash the sight. Not intending to buy any Ins. at all. My question is could this be possible???
