Alcohol and stupidity are rampant in this area. And those things do not mix well.

I guess you gotta have something in the news to draw the attention away from all of Travis Wilson's game killing interceptions. Were they fighting over a 1-6 PAC 12 window sticker? Guys, there's plenty to go around.

I'll be shocked if alcohol was involved, because we all know that University of Utah football games never involve alcohol.

Can the Y fans that hate the University of Utah just let go of their hate for one minute and not write cynical, self righteous, condescending Des News comments? This young man suffered a serious injury and you see it as an opportunity to insult the university. How big of you.

Get well soon Ryan.

You berate the others about "letting go of the hate for one minute and not write cynical, self righteous, condescending Des News comments.

Then you finish with

14 of the last 21.
We own U!
Go Utes!

Where I come from, we call that the textbook example of hypocrisy.

Get well Ryan, may you recover soon and not let this random act taint your love for sporting events.

Webster's defines hypocrisy as "the behavior of people who do things that they tell other people not to do." I chastised those that used an article about a young mans injury to spread their "cynical, self righteous, condescending comments about the University of Utah" on message boards. I then reminded Y fans of the recent history of the Utah vs. BYU football series. At no point did I make a "cynical, self righteous, condescending" remark about anything or anyone. I simply stated the facts, I realize the difference is subtle but it most certainly is there. Thank you for your critique.

LOL...Good one rome. Spin it any way you like. For every "cynical, self righteous, condescending" remark you can show me from a Y fan I'll show you one from Chris B, one of her alter egos, or some other U fan. Hard to top doing it in the same comment you go after someone else though. Classic Y hater there.

Ya, that isn't "cynical, self righteous, or condescending" in the least. How's that owning of BYU helping you out in the conference of champions? What will this Saturday make - 1-6? Get your window sticker while they last. And before you might have to trade it in for a 1-7 one.

You're right "romeisn'tburning", perhaps your jab at the end of your first comment isn't the pure definition of hypocrisy, but it's clearly a cheap shot - and done after asking Y fans not to take cheap shots. Perhaps I could say that the description of the perpetrators in the assault case sounds like every U fan I know? But I wouldn't take a cheap shot like that, because you asked us not to.

So two wrongs make a right? regardless of rome is burning's comments your first comment making light of the attack was in poor taste.

Christine B. Hedgefog,

I'm glad that you feel compelled to defend your insensitive joke about a situation that resulted with a young man in the hospital. Then you rationalize your behavior by citing another persons behavior as a reason to sink to the lowest common denominator. (I did not defend Chris B. and his Y hating comments. Frankly, this has nothing to do with that. I personally find Chris B. and his/her alter ego comments distasteful as well.) You were the one that started making this comment board about the Utah Football team, and you know it. I am a family friend of Ryan, and he is a good person, so I will defend him when people making fun of him while he is in the hospital.

Die hard Cougar fan here. This is a serious incident, let's keep rivalry nonsense out of it.

romey, "You were the one that started making this comment board about the Utah Football team, and you know it." So you point to another's comment to justify your own condescending words and then you criticize someone for pointing to another's comments to justify their condescending words. But no, "We own U" isn't condescending at all is it? And no that's not hypocritical. Just another day in uteville. Safe to say it wasn't a drunk BYU fan beating him up. Hopefully they find the drunks and put them away for a long time. And hopefully if Ryan was part of the problem he also is sentenced appropriately.

@MN Doug.
If something doesn't fit the definition of hypocrisy, it isn't hypocrisy no matter how much you want it to be. My barb was not hate filled, simply fact filled I didn't criticize any one or thing. You still made a cheap shot about Ute fans with your "sounds like every U fan I know" underhanded jab, so thanks for taking the high ground because I asked you to. How big of you.

@Unreconstructed Reb,
Thank you for being a considerate person.

@Utes away for the holidays,
Condescension: patronizing attitude or behavior. Please explain how I was patronizing anyone. I simply stated the facts. There is no cynicism, self righteousness, or condescension someone stating the truth, sorry.
