Can't the NSA provide copies of all the deleted stuff?

Having been in IT for years, asking the end user to make sure and have everything backed up and when they say yes, blowing away or wiping the end user's device is normal. If there is no written policy specifically saying the devices of elected officials need to be put in storage and not formated or changed say for 7 years then no problem. So that is not a huge surprise.

What is a surprise is the fact that Utah State IT folks or the investigators can't or are unable recover the various emails from backups that they most certainly were doing, probably on a daily basis. Even though they got rid of the old email system, the investigators could load the software on a server and restore the backups and get all the emails in question.

Not defending Swallow, but if folks check into it, I would bet they will find that all the Utah politicians devices are wiped once they are done with them.
