Saint Martins? Wow. I know these guys are trying to schedule some cupcakes so they can actually get a few wins this year but that is a new one. Never even heard of them before.

Who is next? East High?

Oh the prestige!

What a horrible team. They will probably make it all the way to the sweet 16, one time, if they ever get good like us.

Love what Coach K is doing with this program. We have fantastic talent rolling into the Huntsman Center this year and our Utes will be right there competing toe to toe. What Coach K has managed to do in just three years is phenomenal. Of course, being part of an elite conference means great recruiting...another of the HUGE benefits.

Oh, what a great time to be a Ute!

SO I could not resist and looked up the powerhouse St. Martin's. They have 1811 enrollment and are from Lacey, Wa. Last time I checked that is smaller than most high schools in Utah.
Way to compete toe-to-toe with yet another powerhouse. It seems like this will the the agenda for the first few games, cream puffs and at home. I feel sorry when the utes have to play a halfway decent team on the road. This is a terrible decision for the coaching staff. Easy wins like this will ruin their SOS and a possible seeding in the NIT if they make it that far.

Enjoyed being up at the game last night. I was interested to see how the Utes looked and as it was an exhibition game wasn't to concerned about the score. It was apparent immediately that the athleticism of this team is leaps and bounds ahead of a year ago. It was nice to see all 5 guys on the floor being an offensive threat in one way or another. Should be a fun year and can't wait to get the season officially kicked off next week. Also, I'm not a fan of the new emphasis the NCAA has placed on officiating. Every game I've seen this year so far has featured way to many foul calls which has taken a little bit away. Hopefully players can get it figured out pretty quick.

I was at the game as well and what I saw was a lack of any competition. I worry about our team if we cannot schedule good teams. I would rather lose a few games to good teams and get some better experience.

Are you sure that you aren't talking about all of the schools (pick one) in the WCC? I have no idea what byu has lined up for preseason games but even you have to be less than thrilled with the conference affiliation in which byu finds itself. high school gymnasiums with bleachers. Seriously? Just think...all because Holmoe was feeling desperate. LOL!

Wow guys, it's an EXHIBITION game. It means nothing. BYU played Colorado College , who only has 2000 students, and Alaska Anchorage. It's weird you are mocking Utah for playing an exhibition game against a lower level team because literally every other D1 team, including BYU, does it too.

Also, congrats to Dixie State for beating UNLV last night. Big win for the Red Storm.

No doubt! The best high school team IN Utah IS Utah!

That's really funny! Do you write your own material? I feel so bad I may not be able to sleep tonight.

Good luck to byu in it's...ummmmm...conference.

Yeah! Any team worth anything schedules its exhibition games against the Brooklyn Nets! Scheduling anything less for a practice game that doesn't count or factor into records is cowardly!

Utah played an exhibition game against NCAA Division II St. Martin of the Great Northwest Conference. So what? That is what NCAA Division I teams do. UNLV played an exhibition game against NCAA Division II Dixie State, and lost 71-70. But it doesn't count for either team. Sometimes the Division II team beats the Division I team.

BYU played against NCAA Division III Colorado College and then played against NCAA Division II Alaska-Anchorage of the same Great Northwest Conference as St. Martin. Both were exhibition games.

Utah will now play NAIA Evergreen State on Friday.

Comparing a college team to a high school simply demonstrates lack of class and understanding by the poster. A college with 1800 students is not the same thing as a high school with 1800 students.

That said, I am glad Coach K has film to look at for his team and hopefully it will help him correct deficiencies, but we all understand that the level of competition makes a difference.

This is how Sagarin had the NCAA Division I conferences last year:

1Big Ten
2Big East
3Big 12
4MWC
5PAC-12 (included Utah)
6ACC
7SEC
8Atlantic 10
9Missouri Valley
10WCC (included BYU)
11Conference USA
12Horizon
13Metro Atlantic
14WAC (included USU)
15Big West
16Mid-American
17Colonial
18Patriot
19America East
20Ivy League
21Sun Belt
22Ohio Valley
23Northeast
24Summit League
25Atlantic Sun
26Southland
27Big South
28Southern
29Mid-Eastern
30Big Sky (included Weber State, Southern Utah)
31Great West (included UVU)
32Independents
33Southwestern

Utah and BYU didn't leave the Mountain West because of basketball. They left because of football and in particular money and exposure. The WAC won't be as good this year, with USU and others moving to the Mountain West and many of the refugees from the Great West joining. Last year was the worst year for the Big Sky in a long time, perhaps ever--they are usually rivaling the Big West in basketball. The WCC is not a bad conference.

@Don't Feed the Trolls - "Love what Coach K is doing with this program."

I think U mean Krystkowiak. I realize that most Utes have not figured out how to spell his name. There is only one Coach K, and he is not in Utah. Why don't U make this simple and start calling Jordan Loveridge, Air Jordan also?

"We have fantastic talent rolling into the Huntsman Center this year and our Utes will be right there competing toe to toe."

Utes have a tale of two seasons this year. There is very little talent (excluding BYU) in the non coference schedule, but U should do well against it. To think U will compete toe to toe in the PAC is overly optimistic. Utes will start to rebuild this year, but will have a losing season in the PAC.

"What Coach K has managed to do in just three years is phenomenal."

Please, what has he managed to do? I do think he's a good coach, but he hasn't accomplished anything. Krystkowiak's best year is still worse than Boylen's worst year. He has yet to have a winning season.

@CougGaninTX

Why does it bother so many BYU fans if Utah fans want to call Coach Krystkowiak Coach K? I haven't seen Duke's Coach K get upset by this. Utah might have a losing season this year in Pac-12 play but it is just as likely that they have a winning season. That being said I don't believe they will be competing for any conference championships, that is still a year or two away. Coach Krystkowiak came into the program with absolutely nothing to work with, Boylen made sure of that and already he has changed the culture of the program and made Utah Recruiting priority 1 and has nabbed the top instate recruit two of the last few years. That is definitely saying something.
