I have participated in "Mormon Helping Hands" before and find the trademarked yellow Mormon Helping Hands shirts to be garish. What is their purpose other than a ridiculous call for attention? Isn't doing good enough without bragging loudly about it?

Why the yellow vests? Same reason humanitarian groups wear matching T-Shirts. To identify themselves as someone who is there to help. I would be less suspicious and more likely to accept help and allow someone into my home if I could clearly see that they were part of an organized group and not just someone who might possibly be there to loot, steal my baby, or otherwise take advantage of me in the event of a disaster. (All things that have happened in the Haiti earthquake, Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy and other disasters) I grew up in the Philippines and I can tell you, these are valid concerns to victims in stressful situations.

Why do policemen and firemen wear uniforms? Why do sports teams wear uniforms? It isn't about bragging and free publicity, it's about team work and being united in a cause. They may be "garish", but at least they are highly visible, which can be very helpful in some of the situations they go in to help with. Anyone who thinks different has no clue.
