All those photo ops of Becker on a bike paid off!
Great! Maybe he can take some of those orange Rocky flags to the meetings, too.
And Burbank can go along and attend amnesty rallies or something.
Just how did Salt Lake become a bastion of liberalism?

I don't know how it happens with liberals running conservative cities, but I remember in California a city called Irvine. It was close to being the most conservative city in all of conservative Orange County. Yet the Mayor of Irvine was an avowed socialist. And of course I remember coming up here a few years ago before moving and running into Rocky Anderson. The stories I heard. Anyway, what probably happens is that the liberal left is more politically energized than the conservative right is. Too them, politics is religion. And all it takes is enough energized voters. T-Party energy for all of you who don't like what they've done in winning Congress. Good for them. The T-Party example should be a wake up call to us. It can be done. The liberals will win if the conservatives don't get their vote out too. Just ask Mitt. He found that out.

That will help when we have 20 days of choking inversions. The tea party will deny that they are unhealthy.

Maybe what's happening is that trying to pigeonhole cities or people as liberal or conservative is not only inaccurate but damaging and divisive. We should have almost everything in common, rather than see others as sworn mortal enemies.

I hope the Mayor is planning on resigning as the Mayor. Its unethical and immoral and unconstitutional to be employed by the state and federal government at the same time. It violates federal and state laws for this kind of arrangement.

If the presidnet feels the need to establish another national weather service to serve him then the mayor is obligated to resign his position to SLC government. This Mayor is being swooned like a giddy childish emotions and not using his head. He should be forced to drop this requests as conflict of interest or resign as mayor.

Its immoral and unconstitutional for the president to put federal services from elected representatives. This puts the mayor in the pocket of the presidnet serving two masters. This is way beyond a photo ops, its unethical treason to the state and city who elected him and the laws he swore and oath to, which is Utah. He has to make a choice, server Obama government or the people of SLC but not both.

The president has a fine organization in the NOAA and the need for trapping small time city government is a power play to cripple local government.

If you want good advice about the weather, hire scientists, not politicians. Obama does not want truth, he wants to be surrounded by Yes-men lackeys.

WooHoo for Mayor Becker! He gets to work for the worst president in modern times on something based in junk science and that has been politicized to boot.

Ralph Becker certainly has more sense than ultra liberal Rocky Anderson. Being new to the scene I was astonished that in 2008 Salt Lake County voters supported Obama. So did LA County,Multanomah (Portland Oregon)which are extreme liberal counties so liberalism has much more than a toe hold in SL county, it has hardcore partisan advocates.Air quality is a big issue especially with inversions. It is a huge waste of money but it is going to be spent so we might as well be represented at the table.

We, like those that lived during the days of Noah, fail to realize that our culture is the real problem we need to deal with. The earth is going to warm up, but not because of the climate we somehow believe the government can control, but rather because of the morals we have cast aside for the perversions we have embraced. We have been warned by that God, that does not exist to some, that we will have earthquakes, when the 'earth will reel' as if drunken, when whole earth will be at war, and "great hail storms will destroy the crops', or even a snow storm that will kill thousands of cattle. And at last, it will be destroyed by fire.
Noah was mocked for building his ark, and there will those who will mock the prophecies of God but it is happening all around us even now and those that put their faith in the 'arm of flesh' will not be prepared for that 'great and dreadful day".
We need to respect the earth, by all means find ways not to pollute it, but even more so we need to respect its Creator.
