Utah has two top 10 teams on the schedule, one of whom we already beat. Utah has
two more top 25 teams on the schedule. And this difficulty of schedule will be
constant in our PAC 12 play. Byu and usu each have one ranked team,
and they are playing their hardest schedules ever. Whittingham has
proven he can beat END of season top 10 teams(Alabama, Stanford likely end top
10). Yes, he also has some bad losses. But I will take a coach that beats
true(end of season) top 10 teams and loses to bad teams than a coach that
doesn't even beat end of season top 10 teams We beat Stanford.
Anything is possible!Go utes! We WILL go bowling. And wouldn't
it be funny if we set a new NCAA record by beating the same team(byu) five times
in four years.
‘Wild road ahead: BYU, Utah and Utah State face season-determining
November slates’As opposed to the 'non season determining
games' in Sept and Oct?
The would-a could-a should-a Cougars wouldn't have been awaiting to get
noticed on the big national stage if they had brought their game to Virginia and
Utah contests. They should be undefeated, but they didn't get the job
done. Now they face another opportunity to get attention. May I suggest that
they bring all the talk to the field and get it done this time? Go Cougars!
@Cinci Man,I couldn't have said it better myself! It pains me
to think what could've been if they had not messed up royally at Virginia
and Utah! They missed a golden opportunity to make a statement for a BCS invite
if they go undefeated the rest of the season. Here's hoping they keep the
excitement going by pulling out upsets against Wisconsin and Notre Dame. Oh,
and I hope Houston, Texas, Boise or Utah State win their respective
conferences' championships! Wouldn't that be awesome? Go
Cougars! Go Utes! Go Aggies!
With by far the best win of anyone in the state this year, Utah will look to add
another top 25 win between Oregon and Arizona State. That makes 4 teams
currently in the top 25, two in the top 10(one of whom we beat). And this
schedule will be typical as we continue in the Pac 12. It's going to be
tough, but I'll take it over a MWC or quasi MWC schedule anyday!Go Utes!
BYU is in a unique opportunity being able to say they bested multiple league
champions if the dice roll just right. Get Wisconsin next week Cougars.USU should finish out 8-4.Utah hopefully pulls out two more
wins and gets an at-large bowl invite somewhere like the heart of Dallas bowl.
Chris B., did you really just say that Utah may beat Oregon? Wow......just wow.
I watched the ASU Wazzu game last night. ASU is a very good team, even
with their best receiver out their offense dominated.Their defense is big
and physical.Hopefully Wilson is healthy for that game because they are
good.Wisconsin is probably the best pro style running team in cfb. The
cougars offense needs to be consistent to protect the defense.Notre Dame
beat ASU so enough said.Wazzu if the qb has time he is really good. Get
pressure on him and he struggles.Go Utah Schools
The Chris B fantasy continues...Mark that down.
Since it seems anyone can say anything they want in regards to football,
I've decided that I'm going to take a page out of that book instead of
facing reality. For BYU:Someone is going to go into the
mainframe computer system that controls everything. They are going to erase the
two losses of BYU this year and change them to wins. Then, BYU is going to win
out and play in the National Championship game against Alabama AND Oregon at the
same time. BYU is going to win that game by a score of 257,981 to -45. For ASU:The same person who hooked up BYU will hook up ASU too.
Don't need to change the Wisconsin game because the refs hooked us up
before hand. ASU is going to go to the PAC champ game and beat Colorado who, not
being in the north, still went. ASU is not going to play for the NC game because
it was already too crowded. But they beat Ohio State in the Rose 79.5 to 1The same odds that these happen are the same odds that Utah will beat
Oregon and ASU. You're dreaming.
@ChrisB"Utah will look to add another top 25 win between Oregon
and Arizona State"This comment is funny Christy! You
have a better chance of winning the powerball lottery.
Be fair, guys. Chris said Utah will look to beat Oregon. Likewise BYU will look
for wins against Wisconsin and Notre Dame, plus for Wisconsin, Texas, Houston,
Georgia Tech, and Boise State to all win their respective conferences, and give
pollsters and computers greater confidence to bump BYU way up in the BCS
rankings and send them to the Fiesta Bowl. Both are mathematically possible and
are just about equally likely.
@christy I know you think that your difficult schedule makes the
utes the greatest team alive, but to say you would take it over a quasi MWC
schedule is a touch inaccurate. BYU has the 21st toughest schedule in the
league. Thats no MWC schedule. We did play two MWC teams and dominated
both....Hey haven't you played those teams before too?...Oh yeah you barely
squeaked by Utah St after getting beat by that team the year before....also how
many times have you beaten Boise St?....Oh yeah that number would be ZERO.
Remember the Vegas Bowl? 26-3 was the final score I believe. Seems those MWC
foes do pretty well despite their extreamly low star rating!
LevinSorry, but I have to disagree; Chris was making a prediction
when she wrote: "Utah will look to add another top 25 win between Oregon and
Arizona State."Unfortunately for Chris, Utah's "best
win of anyone in the state this year" is proving to be more of a fluke, than
an endorsement of the strength of Utah's football team. The win has been
all but ignored by the vast majority of national media, coaches and fans, as
Utah is ranked 20 spots lower than BYU in nearly every national poll and
ranking.Just like nobody not living on the hill thinks Utah is
better than Stanford, nobody except the hill dwellers thinks Utah or Virginia is
better than BYU.
BYU has determined its season already, no matter what happens in Nov.The Utes will be LUCKY to get a bowl game this year. They beat Stanford but
couldn't win the games the absolutely had to have. As I see it
they'll have to beat Washington State and then hold on vs Colorado to get a
bowl, but with their USC performance staring them down they'll be lucky to
win 1 of 4...USU would be the team to watch, they still have a shot
at their conference. Imagine where they'd be if Keeton hadn't gone
down!Good luck to all the teams in the State, they all three need to
win win win!
We can’t help it because we are more awsome because we are bcs and they
arn’t so that means our schedule proves it even though we lose alot.
Syracuse Coug,Be honest, how much of a chance did you give Utah
against Stanford?That's what I thought
nhatch,How many end of season top 10 wins does Bronco have? Kyle
already has one, and it will likely be 2 as Stanford will likely end the season
in the top 10.Isn't it funny your coach talks about winning
national titles and he's never beat an end of season top 10 team? And don't bring up beginning of season rankings, unless you really think
USC was the best team in the nation last year, as they were ranked #1. Kyle 2 top 10 end of season winsBronco 0 end of season top 10 wins
@Christy"Kyle 2 top 10 end of season winsBronco 0 end of
season top 10 wins"I actually don't think stanford will be
a top 10 team. I think they are overrated. they are going to get beat down by
Oregon and I think Notre dame is going to upset them. so you don't have 2
top 10 end of season wins you have one. we will see about whether or not a
second one happens. Oh yeah and by the way your first top 10 win was
when you were a lowly MWC non-aq team right? What was your star rating that
year, cause it seems impossible that a team with a lower star rating they could
beat an ALABAMA?
I think Utah does have a chance to beat Arizona State for this reason: they are
playing in Salt Lake. Utah has been pretty good at home this year. It's
on the road that they've struggled mightily, not having won a true road
game yet (BYU doesn't count.)IF Utah manages to beat Arizona
State, they will go to a bowl. I predict they will lose on the road to both
Oregon and Washington State, then beat Colorado at home in the final game of the
season. So, it all hinges on the game next weekend. Without that win, they
will be under a lot of pressure to pick up two wins to finish the year.BYU may not be playing to change their bowl selection at this point, but
winning out will put them high in the polls for next season and give them a
chance to get into a big-money bowl.
NavadaCoug"I think Utah does have a chance to beat Arizona
State"Yeah, a snowball's chance. But a chance nonetheless.
"Just like nobody not living on the hill thinks Utah is better than
Stanford, nobody except the hill dwellers thinks Utah or Virginia is better than
BYU. - deductive reasoningYou know what's funny is byu fans
thinking byu is better than Utah after losing head to head this year and losing
4 in a row. Here is something to think about: Utah has won 9 of the
last 12 with byu. If not for last second miracle plays in 3 of those games,
Utah would have won 12 straight against byu. And byu fans still think their
team is better?
Will be rooting for ASU, et al, this weekend and beyond. Chris' stellar
prediction (LOL) capability shows that she's generally 99.97% wrong, so
with her on the yewts side, it's entirely realistic to see a 4-8 season -
just what the pundits predicted.Go AnyoneWhoPlaysTheUtes!
"Syracuse Coug,Be honest, how much of a chance did you give Utah
against Stanford?That's what I thought"I admit,
not much, but that was before the mighty Utes put up a whopping 3 points on an
injury riddled USC team who was missing half of their studs. People probably
would be nicer to you if you just acted rational once in a while and quit
bashing the other teams in Utah, like they were lucky to be in the presence of
your all-mighty bcs team. Utah has struggled mightily in the Pac-12 the last
two years and it doesn't look like that will change, admit it and give some
of the other teams in the state a little credit. BYU and Utah State are playing
some pretty darn good football right now.
christyHow many end of season losses to 10-loss teams does Kyle
have? How many times has Kyle been SHUT OUT by a 10-loss team? How many losses to conference bottom dwellers like New Mexico, Wyoming,
UNLV, Colorado St and Colorado does Kyle have? Why does Kyle have so
few Top 25 finishes, and why, after beating the 5th-ranked team in the country,
is Utah still struggling to become bowl eligible?Bronco: FIVE Top 25
finishes, THREE Top 15 finishesKyle: THREE Top 25 finishes, ONE Top 15
finishWith the 21st-ranked SOS, BYU is a couple of plays away from
being undefeated this season, with SIX wins versus FBS teams and THREE wins
versus BCS teams. With the 4th-ranked SOS, Utah is 4-4, with THREE
wins versus FBS teams and only ONE win versus a BCS team.BCS
Ranking: #28 BYU > #45 Utah
Let's look at using Chris B logic to see who will win will the ASU/uofu
game:ASU pounded WSU in Pullman by 34, WSU beat USC at home by 3, USC beat
up the Utes using walk-ons by 16.Hmmm.....ASU will win by 53 points.
KH"You know what's funny is BYU fans thinking BYU is better
than Utah after losing head to head this year..."Not as funny as
Utah fans thinking they have a chance against ASU, after losing NINE in a row,
and being dominated by the Sun Devils since Utah joined the PAC.btw,
it's not just BYU fans thinking that BYU is better than Utah, EVERY
national ranking - AP, Coaches, Harris, USA Today, CBS Sports, BCS, Sagarin,
etc. - says that BYU is significantly BETTER than Utah.
KHName the national poll or ranking that has Utah ranked higher than

It's interesting how sacrosanct the polls and rankings are when Utah fans
are talking about Utah's or their opponent's rankings, but how
meaningless those same polls and rankings are when Utah fans are talking about
BYU's or their opponent's rankings.USA Today#26 BYU

either poll.BYU has finished with a better and higher ranking in
five of the eight seasons during the Bronco-Kyle era, and that trend looks to
continue this year.
There really isn't much difference between the strength of opponents Utah
and BYU has so far faced as both slates featured top 25 schedules. The key
difference is in how they handled those opponents. Utah has squeaked out narrow
nail-biter wins over BYU, USU and Stanford. BYU has dominated Texas, Boise
State, USU, GT, MTS and squeaked out a narrow nail-biter win over Houston.
Utah was slightly better on September 21st.BYU is much better
today. It remains to be seen which team will finish better overall.
I don't know how you Utah-based BYU fans put up with what appears to be the
constant water torture of Ute nonsense. If the DesNews comment section is
anything like life on the streets of Salt Lake City, or like I remember it being
when I lived in Utah while going to school, I would have chewed my arm off by
now.Is it just impossible dreaming to suppose that the Ute fan base
will some day focus on competing in the Pac-12 instead of obsessing on their
life-long inferiority complex with regards to BYU and to the BCS? Talk about
sad. As someone who was born in and has lived in PAC country most
of my life, with the refs having their thumb on every game, with the
haves-versus-have-nots caste system, and with some of the most entitled and
obnoxious fan bases in college sports, I'm grateful every day that BYU is
not a part of that conference.
@Chris B, the passage of a few weeks has helped pull back the curtain to bring
more clarity to the state of the PAC. The truth is Stanford wasn't an
isn't nearly as good as their ranking says they are-- then and now. There
is only one juggernaut in the PAC and we know who that is. And they are the
recipients of having a Nike VP donating piles of cash to their program. All of the other PAC12 teams are fairly matched. And none of them would
clearly dominate the old MWC.Mark that down! Its true.
I also wanted to applaud the Utah-based fans who, regardless of which team is
their favorite, want to see all three of their state's FBS schools do well,
now that none play in the same conference. It's a nice sentiment I am
trying to emulate. Which is why I root loudly for "the
You-Dub" and Wazzou whenever they play Utah.Go Cougars!
Chris B. Utah would have to finish 6th in the pac10.2 to play BYU. Not 9th.
WA_Alum&Dad:"If the DesNews comment section is anything like life
on the streets of Salt Lake City, or like I remember it being when I lived in
Utah while going to school, I would have chewed my arm off by now".Yep, that's why I only have a nub left. It is torture to listen to from
some fans while others are very reasonable. How many other programs after losing
to the dead beat programs the utes have in the last couple weeks still be on
boards trying to diminish the accomplishments of their rival? Probably
none...the classy ones would tip their hat, and the trolls would go back under
the rock they came from. But not specific ute fans...they could be 1-7 right now
w/ their lone victory over BYU and still be talking SOS (as if BYUs isn't
high) and giving all the "evidence" for their superiority because they
beat the Cougars again. Maybe God feels sorry for them and that's why he
allows them to beat BYU...we all know who the rest of America thinks/knows is
better so there has to be some reason.
Chris BNo thanks, BYU has bigger fish to fry and higher aspirations.
We're tired of stubbing our toe on little ole U. We'd rather demolish
the Big 12 champion or go down the wire in an exciting game to the American
champion, or throttle the MWC champion or runner-up...oh wait we've already
done all that. What good would playing little ole U do for the Cougs? Nada.
We'll take a team who has tradition and actually competes in the PAC12 like
Washington or USC...we just don't have the time (or toes) to be tripping
over little brother anymore.
Here is a question:IF Texas goes on to win the Big12, will Utah's win
over Stanford still be considered the biggest win by a Utah team? For
rational fans, the question will be raised and logically debated. We
already know what the irrational fans will say.
Chris B You should be thankful for all of BYU wins since playing the
U. Utah win over BYU make the Utah program not look so weak. Now if BYU had
beaten the U, then the Utah fans would be having the worse season being having
only three wins. So Utah and Chris if you really that good of a program then
cheer for BYU so your teams win will look better, because the word on the street
in football land about Utah is they only get up for BYU and once in awhile have
a fluke game and beat one good team and then lose to all the other good teams.
Word about BYU is that they are improving each game and have a QB that is
showing some real promise that is getting some national attention. So Chris
realize if BYU loses it make Utah look even worse, BYU win Utah looks better.
To all you people who are saying that Utah is better than BYU because
they've won more rivalry games must have forgotten that it is just ONE game
out of a WHOLE SEASON. I'm pretty sure that the greatness of a team is
based on more than one game! I think the problem is that Utah fans are use to
their season ending every year after the "big game" so they've
forgotten that most other teams actually have a season to finish. Last time I
checked, BYU was ranked higher than Utah on all of the polls (that was after
Utah beat Stanford and BYU lost to you guys). Says a lot to me. If you look at
in-state games then yes, Utah is the better team and congrats on your one game a
year but if you look at the team overall during the course of the season then
Utah is NOT the best team in the state.
Thank you for the good laugh.. First of all, by November 23rd, Notre Dame will
be in the top 20.... Maybe the top 15.... ASU will not lose on the hill in
RES... Oregon will not lose on November 16th in Eugene... I wish more than
anything that all these losses save Arizona weren't against quality
teams.... However, let us be very clear that losing even to respectable programs
is still LOSING... The great teams simply don't do that... So Ute Nation!
Please quit pounding your chests until as a PAC-12 team you pull off an
Addendum: Even Arizona is a 'quality' loss as it were... 8 of 12 are
well above 500 for the season... It is time for the other 4 to put up or cut
out! With USC winning tonight like they did in Corvalis this is one of the best
seasons in Pac-12 history! But I'm thinking t
For those you knocking Chris' predictions, remember that he was practically
the only one that said Utah would beat Stanford, and how did that turn out for
him? Hope and belief in your team isn't always a bad thing.
@Y>U:When all else fails, use the logic of others to prove your team
is better. You can use the standings, I'll use the stats of the last 12
games to determine which team is better. Ultimately that is all that matters
between two schools. If you can't beat them on the field you are not the
better team. Otherwise, you are simply using the accomplishments of others to
try and make your team look better. If BYU won every game this year, except
Utah, and Utah lost every game, except BYU, Utah would still be better than BYU.
There is no disputing it really.
"With by far the best win of anyone in the state this year, Utah will look
to add another top 25 win between Oregon and Arizona State. That makes 4 teams
currently in the top 25, two in the top 10(one of whom we beat). And this
schedule will be typical as we continue in the Pac 12. It's going to be
tough, but I'll take it over a MWC or quasi MWC schedule anyday!"I'm not sure I share your enthusiasm. Think about 2004 and 2008.
Would you have rather been in the MWC those years, gone undefeated and played in
a major bowl? Or would you have rather traded places with say, Arizona or
Washington State, two schools who seem to be our PAC 12 "peers"? I thought we would have seen some PAC 12 success by now. Upsetting a
Stanford team that was looking ahead to UCLA hardly qualifies as a big-time win.
The fact is, we are mediocre in the PAC 12, just like the
detractors said we would be. And I don't see a light at the end of the
tunnel, at least not with our current leadership.
Utefan4LyfYes, when all else fails, resort to feeble "logic"
arguments, instead of accepting the only facts that really matter, final records
and end of season rankings."For those you knocking Chris'
predictions, remember that he was practically the only one that said Utah would
beat Stanford"Simple math: if you throw out enough wild
predictions, inevitably, one of your predictions will hit the mark. Try it
yourself - bet the heavy underdog in every FBS game this week. You're
almost guaranteed to get at least one right.
Ufan:So you're saying that BYU playing a weaker schedule and having
more wins at the end of the season proves they are a better team that Utah, who
beat them head to head? Explain your logic? The only thing that matters is the
final score between two teams. The rest does contain a direct correlation and
can be discounted. In other words, try again.
@ Utefan4LyfI have to disagree a head to head score does not mean
everything.Texas A&M beat Alabama last year, was Texas A&M the
National Champion?LSU beat Alabama in 2011 and then lost to them in the
National Title game so who was better then?In 2008 Florida lost a game to
Ole Miss and was still the National Champion.A season is made up of games.
So lets say the season is a pie and games are pieces? Is it more important
to have a good pie than a good piece.I think the Utes are a good team but
they have been really good in pieces.BYU has been terrible for a couple
pieces other than that pretty good.Utah has a tough schedule (according to
ESPN #2) but so does BYU (ESPN #12) the key is BYU has won more than Utah. The utes did have a great victory head to head. But head to head games
don't mean everything (How many champions in any sport have lost some
Nevada coug,"(BYU doesn't count.)"Good
point, they have won every contest against the utes in their mind.
