Three years is a trend. Utah has to do something to get the win against Arizona State. Snow machines pumping near RES might be the trick!

    Utesby5

Seeing Ute fans call BYU a "mid major" while their own "power conference" team is 1-4 kind of wreaks of sour grapes...

... when BYU is in the Top 30 or better in all of the national polls.

    Some cheese with that whine?

    @sammyg:

"I guess since the Utes are tanking it's expected that uber sensitive Ute fans are grasping for any narrative to debate.

    Feel better?"

Take a look at this University of Utah article and see how many negative comments are coming from byu fans. It's obvious that after byu loses a game and "tanks" it's season, the only thing that will satisfy the byu "fans" is seeing the Utes fail. What a sad existence it must be since Utah left byu behind. Jealous and frustrated much?

    Feel better?

FYI, very rarely do I read byu articles and the only couple of posts I have ever made have been congratulating a player or the team. I would not post a negative comment in a byu thread, ever. I will call out byu fans that post negatively on Utah articles because it is so annoying.

I want all of the teams in Utah to do well including the mid-major programs in Logan and Provo.

The Utes now have their backs against the wall needing to win two of the four games remaining. In a power conference there are no guaranteed wins.

    Go Utes!

Yeah, the thought that Hoffman and KVN will have difficulty coping with "we didn't beat the Utes ever" for the rest of their lives is laughable, desperate, childish, boorish, etc.

I'm sure an NFL shrink will know what to do if it ever comes up.

Funny how jealously and obsession of these two great BYU players manifests itself on a Ute article.

    Sooner Ute

Typical Ute homer response thinking that I or anyone else would relish in the injury of a player. Nothing could be further from the truth. Go find my earlier response to Wilson's injury will ya.

Your precious QB chaos is nothing more than a continuation of having NOTHING on the bench IF there is an injury. Whit said earlier this year that he had the talent in reserve.

    Where is it?

I guess your coach has a hard time learning some basics about these things and cannot get his head around a simple concept like getting some extra talent now and then.

I guess since the Utes are tanking it's expected that uber sensitive Ute fans are grasping for any narrative to debate.

    Feel better?

    @Rational

Maybe you are right I'm just very, very down on the offense right now. 3 points in 4 quarters kind of speaks for itself. It's really a downer considering how good the defense played. One things for sure, we won't lose this week. Have a good one Guy!

    Chris B

Unfortunately for U, one game does not a season make:

    AP - BYU(6-2) #28 BETTER than Utah(4-4) - not a single vote
Coaches - BYU #30 BETTER than Utah - not a single vote
BCS - BYU #28 BETTER than Utah #45
Sagarin - BYU #24 BETTER than Utah #39
Composite - BYU #16 BETTER than Utah #40

Despite Utah's narrow 7-point win in September, it's quite obvious that the only fans who think that Utah is better are those living on the hill.

btw, of the 103 rankings included in the Composite, only two ranked the Utes in the Top 25, the same number that ranked the Utes 70+.

By comparison, 84 ranked BYU in the Top 25, while only one ranked BYU lower than 35th.

Van Noy and Hoffmann will finish their careers with better records and higher rankings than Utah in three of their four seasons.

    USNGary,

The difference that is makes is we are better than you. We played and scored more points. Utah is better than byu. In fact, your own stars Van Noy and Hoffman will go their entire careers not knowing what its like to beat their rivals.

That's a big deal. As much as byu fans don't like to admit it.

    We are better than you.

    sandwich,
the only time I remember is when I keep reading it. everyone needs to grow up and only talk about the articles, myself included, I seem to get caught up in it too. It is elementary age like to keep saying things like we are better, we have a tougher schedule, we keep beating you, well my dad can beat your dad..... who cares if you beat us 4 in a row, BYU beat utah 11 times in a row. what difference does it make?

SoonerUte, I think you didn't understand Balan's comment. I'll help you out. Balan doesn't say Utah will only get Utah kids. He says Utah won't get enough great athletes to compete, and that the only great athletes Utah will get will be some of the ones from the state of Utah. That's not the same as saying Utah will only get kids from Utah. It's hard having a conversation with Utah fans when Utah fans can't understand the comments already made.

Bill Sharman played 10 years for the Boston Celtics, won 4 NBA titles, is in the NBA Hall of Fame, coached the Lakers to the 1972 NBA Championship, including a 33 game winning streak and even played in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization for 5 years and the only comment he gets in this article is the one noted above?

    Really, Dirk, really?

Fail. Cougar fans like yourselves are the ones who can only remember getting beat by the Utes year, after year, after year..

Who cares if you have a top 5 schedule if you can't win? That's all that matters right? When utah was invited there was all this talk about winning the rose bowl, now they are talking about going to any bowl. Utah fans can only remember 1 thing, their wins over BYU, it is in almost every comment

If the offense plays like it did against USC from here on out, there is no way Utah goes to a bowl. That's just the cold hard truth, and it really hurts. This team has the talent, buy between the offensive line, the horrible play calling, and the QB position, this team has no chance. How depressing.

"Of course, that doesn't explain the 35 kids from California on the Utes roster..."

In its bleakest, darkest, losingest Tom Lovat days, Utah had 35+ California kids on the roster. It is quality, not geography, that matters.

If I was a Cougar fan or only a ‘cougar fan troll’ I would call for KW's job too. His record against the Y speaks for itself.

Both teams have excellent coaches and the Pac-12 schedule is most challenging. Coach Kyle has my complete support. 4-4 at this point is not the end of the world. They will bounce back.

Most of the BYU trolls aren’t even graduates or former players for the Y. The same holds true for the U of U trolls.

With many family members being BYU and Utah graduates, a few athletes and players, and a member in the BYU Hall of Fame we wish the Cougars well.

Try supporting and rooting for all the Utah teams.

sammyg claims "And that Ute meltdown is gaining some intensity. Frustrations are rising."
What meltdown? This summer, we knew that Utah had one of the toughest schedules in the nation. That hasn't changed. Utah's win/loss is probably right where it should be for the schedule we have. We don't major in "what if..." like they do in Provo.

Utah fans aren't calling for a coaching change. That's a Cougar thing. Even while on a winning streak, Cougar fans are complaining about Anae.

"No different than the past couple of years of QB chaos in Uteville. Pretty funny to see these same things pan out again."
You think its pretty funny to see another Utah quarterback struggle with injury?? Wow. Harsh. You need a two year break from the rivalry.

  • Balan South Jordan, Utah
    Oct. 27, 2013 12:33 p.m.

The problem is, and will always be the athletes. Utah CANNOT compete with USC, UCLA, Stanford, Washington, Oregon, ASU, etc. when it comes to getting quality players. Occasionally maybe; on a consistent basis (which is required to win in the PAC12) NO!

To Utah fans, and I ask this sincerely, what does Utah offer that is going to convince recruits to choose Utah over another BCS school? Reputation? No. Facilities? No. History? No. Weather? No. Night life in SLC? No. Academics? Maybe. Coaches? Maybe.

Short of a few Utah kids that have always wanted to go to Utah, I do not ever see Utah getting the athletes they need to consistently compete in the PAC12.

I've said it before and will say it again, Utah got what they asked for when invited to the PAC12. The flip side is that they will almost always find themselves in the bottom third of the league.

And that Ute meltdown is gaining some intensity. Frustrations are rising.

How can Ute fans criticize their coach after pulling off the biggest win in their PAC lives a couple of weeks ago and before that pulling off another big win over BYU?

Some say Whit cannot motivate. Didn't I just read two weeks ago an article that actually quoted Whit's inspiring motivational words to his troops over Stanford?

My, my... how things have changed in two weeks yet they are no different than the past couple of years of QB chaos in Uteville.

Pretty funny to see these same things pan out again.

Sigh... it looks to be another bowl-less season in the making again.

When is "week after week, it's an onslaught" & "the PAC12 is just so good" not going to be acceptable excuses anymore to ute fans & more importantly, to Chris Hill? You're in your 3rd year of competition & your 4th yr of recruiting to this league. When do we stop hearing the excuses from Whittingham and start seeing results on the field? I've said it before, I like Whit but I don't think he's the guy that will take Utah to the next level in the PAC.

It's obvious Utah just doesn't have the horses at this point, but in this game neither did USC. There's no excuse losing to this kind of team, but losing by 2 TDs? Ridiculous.

For the 3rd year in a row we watch Utah digress while everyone else is improving. There's only one place you can point the finger...coaching. Not injuries, everyone has those and they're a lame excuse...poor COACHING. You want to see a coach who motivates and knows how to get it done...listen to Mora's press conference after the Oregon game...no excuses.

I'm a Utah fan....and hate to say it but this team is going nowhere fast. As long as they keep playing with the "eye of the bunny" when they go on the road things won't change. These road trips aren't Laramie...Fort Collins....and Albuquerque anymore.

Utah's only quality win was vs. Stanford which now looks like an aberration instead of a springboard win. And taking BYU off the future schedule and the built in win that that game has become... getting to 6 wins looks daunting for the foreseeable future.
