Man what a great game! This is such a great rivalry. Bingham came out flat as could be in the first half. dropping the linebackers into the slant routes in the 2nd half was a great adjustment. Made the Alta QB hold onto the ball a bit longer than he was in the 2nd half. Think this was a huge motivation for Bingham going into the playoffs. Great day to be a Miner! Especially when you beat Alta!

Wow, Alta defense cannot be happy. Sounds like they played well but got put in holes by turnovers and special teams

37 yards in the second half......wow. I mean thats a really good offense there too. huh, will be cool to see if Alta can play with enough fire to beat Taylorsville and there quarter final matchup. As for Bingham, they better not be planning on giving up big leads to the likes of Brighton and Jordan cause they wont be getting those games back so easily.

WOW!!! what a classic Black and Blue game, Alta is a lot better than I thought, Lucero is a talented kid. Bingham really responded to Coach Peck's challenge in the locker room. I agree Kyle is going to be a great QB at Bingham if he stays healthy, I told him before the half that this is what #1 teams do, they come back and win big games!! Great job Miners!! Take State, MINER PRIDE!!!!

Wow is right. That was a good game last night. Alta has a great passing game. Mack Richards is a stud. He has some awesome moves on the field, I can only wonder how good he is on the dance floor. Both teams also have great size and speed. Alta came out with a great game plan the first half and did pretty much all they wanted. Bingham did come out flat the first half and it showed. I was sitting in the stands and told my buddy I hoped this lead was big enough for Alta and told him Bingham is going to come out with their hair on fire the second half. I have seen too many BYU-USU games where the Ag's get up big and its just not enough to hold the lead. Wow Bingham can flip the switch like that. Alta just didn't roll over and die there were some great halftime adjustments made. Bingham brought more pressure on Chipper and the Alta O than they were ready for. To beat a good passing team you need to bring pressure. Bingham did that. Good coaches find a way to win.

Now this is why I said Alta and Bingham final four. Both teams have to much fire power for the side of bracket they are going to be in.

@JDigger24
Didn't you see the game where Bingham ALREADY beatdown your "high-powered" beatdigger offense? What makes you think they will meet in the playoffs? lol keep dreaming.

Several commenters are saying that there are a few teams (Brighton, Jordan, Davis, Syracuse, Herriman, Riverton, LP, PG???) that if they have a great game and Bingham has a down game, can beat Bingham. Well, last night might have been that down game everyone is looking for.

I think Bingham had little to play for last night. Even with a loss, they get the #1 seed and a share of the region title. Besides, Alta is a little down this year so Bingham probably overlooked them a little (not the coaches, but the 16 and 17 year old players). This game is scary because it probably brought Bingham back to the reality that despite being the favorite, they still gotta show up and compete.

Parry, you are spot on. I think this just woke a sleeping giant with Bingham last night.

I think you are all mistaken....

Alta is good.... why is that so hard to think about?!?!

Alta woulda won region 4! Alta is still Binghams Rival, and they showed up and have a solid team!

This is exactly what I was hoping for REGARDING Bingham and the way they showed up, did you see the whole flip of a switch to the USUALL Bingham teams we see... run the football... and follow your 5 Senior offensive lineman and just wear down teams!
Bingham ended the game on a 23-0 run! Defense stopped everything!

I think region 3 will all win first round matchups against REGION 2
even though Tville will be a good matchup vs alta!

Region 4 and Region 1!
Should be a fun first Round for you boys!

Here you go Davis and Syracuse, finally a match up that can show how good you both are this year! I mean you are 19-1 combined, buttttt Davis Best win was against Syracuse and Taylorsville by 27!

I think it will be 3-1 for region 4 teams!

Bingham will not lose this year!

Teams that can throw the ball can hang with Bingham. You aren't going to run the ball very well against their front 7. Alta fell apart in the second half but showed the formula to score points on them. And stopping their power run is tough. Is Bingham the best in the state? Yes (well.. maybe except for East). Are they beatable? Absolutely. This is going to be a great playoff season. Region 1 has their hands full. They seriously need to revamp Region 2, Region 3 is going to walk all over them. The 2nd round matchups should be great.

Taylorsville just lost 20-7 to West, I doubt they will match up well with Alta.

Bingham will beat West by 50

Having played both East and Bingham I'd say they are very close, but East seems to be tougher up front and they run the ball better than Bingham does. I'd say East would win 6 out of 10 vs Bingham.

Jack, why does all the SLC teams need to beat everybody by 50 points? Is that to show teams not to mess with them or what. I still haven't figured out what proves!!! Help me understand that logic.

Bingham can give any team in the State 3 TDs to begin the game and still beat them by a lot lol.

Miners take State!!!

@goaggies1

The 40-50 point margins generally occur in the first half. It's a fairly accepted norm that it doesn't make sense to alter the game plan or 'let off the gas' in the first half - at any level of football. Then teams with large leads put in the back-ups in the second half, usually after the opening drive.

The reason it seldom or never happens for R1 teams is they lack either the offensive horsepower or the explosiveness or offensive approach to score that many points in a half. The style is ball-control and field position. This isn't meant in a critical way, it just is and I think you yourself proudly described R1 approach just that way. And I don't think any R1 team that could get a 40 point lead in the first half would back off either until the second half.

The flip side for teams outside of R1 is that the offensive schemes are built for balance, speed and explosiveness - more high-risk, high reward. I really don't believe there are very many circumstances where teams run up the score in the second half for style points.

For example, as Jordan sprinted to an impressive 51-0 lead over Syracuse in the first half of last year's championship game, exactly when should they have stopped playing 'their game' and started taking pity on the Titans? End of Q1? Half way through Q2?

They played the full first half at full speed. That's the minimum convention. The gap between them and Syracuse at half-time was not a don't-mess-with-me statement. It was just a reflection of the difference between the performance of the two teams for that one half, and there was no ill will intended.

They clearly called off the dogs in the second half.

If Bingham would have tried running the score up, and left their starters in the entire game, Nichols would have over 2000 yards right now. I think I saw him play 1 offensive series against Copper Hills. Goaggies1, if you have seen any of the games, you'd know that the 40-50 pt victories the Miners have had, they've had in the first half and then played their 2nd and 3rd string players. WJ was 42-0 at half I believe. Granger game was 42-0 at half and that was the final score. Do you really think if they would have left their first stringers in they wouldn't have scored again in the 2nd half?

I can see what your saying about the first half scoring. But, Friday Cuse was up 33-7 at halftime and only scored 3 points the rest of the game. I know you want to keep your team from going flat as well during the first half. But really against some of those teams after 7-0 the game is over. I turned to one of my buddies after the first score on Friday and said, the game is over time to go home-warm up the bus. I guess what Im saying is after 2-3 series of plays you can see how the game is going to turn out. When Bingham got down playing Alta I said I hope Alta feels good about their lead because Bingham will come out hotttt and be ready to play. Two different scenio's for two different games. Yes Cuse likes to play field position but if they can score they will. I was really joking when I said our punter is our best athlete. But the Cuse coaches play it pretty straight when it come to 3rd and 4th down. I just had to ask the question. Thanks
