    The Royal christening comes not despite a drop in baptisms, but as a symbol of how archaic the monarchy, and religion, have become. It's not an endorsement of religion; it's an endorsement of tradition. If you don't think so, you should be comfortable with the Queen as head of state. Religion enabled the monarchy in England for generations. Henry VIII tore the realm into bits because he couldn't get approval from the church to get out of marriages he found inconvenient. In the end, unsubstantiated belief is the worst reason upon which one can act. Certainly it is the worst reason upon which the state can act. It was a good show today. That's all it was.
