A friend of mine shared with me a great principle the late Elder Marvin J. Ashton taught him while going through a divorce while we were attending B.Y.U- Hawai'i many years ago. He said, "It matters not if you try and fail, try and fail. The thing that matters the most is when you fail to try". Senator Lee ran on the premise he is going to try and try and try. I see that Senator Hatch is apparently failing to support his constituent from the state of Utah. It's time for us to divorce him.

You are way to kind to your junior Senator, Orrin.

@4word thinker;

I was commenting on the hate displayed for Sen. Hatch by the Republicans posting on this thread; I don't like Hatch much myself, but these guys are part of his own party!

I've thought long and hard about what's best for this country. My conclusion? It is certainly not conservativism.

Great job Senator Hatch! Thank you for being a true leader.

I have voted for Orrin Hatch every time throughout his entire career as a Senator representing Utah. However, I will no longer support his reelection and will support any good candidate that runs against him. Mike Lee took a principled stand against Obamacare and showed courage in spite of overwhelming odds. I will continue to support Mike Lee along with the other 70% of Utahns that support him. It sounds like Hatch would just assume that Bob Bennett would have been reelected. If that is the case, we need to do a purging of the Republican Party so we can have Senators that listen to the people rather than the echo chamber within the D.C. beltway.

To my fellow Republicans, you are all bearing witness to the downfall of our party. There was a poll recently published saying that 60% of US citizens wanted EVERYONE in congress fired, AND desired a 3rd party and bipartisanship to go the way of the dodo bird. I had to laugh....there's already a 3rd party and it's guaranteeing democrat victories in 2014 and 2016. The tea party has many ideals that I stand for but they are guaranteeing dem takeover and socialist agendas to continue in Washington by dividing the GOP. The writing is on the wall folks...make no mistake, the only reason republicans like Hatch are nervous is because they know what the end game looks like. A Dem controlled Congress and White House. While Tea Party extremists beat their chest about "taking America back", Dems are laughing all the way to the poll booths. Wake up people! A divided GOP because of neo-con extremists only leads to Democrats controlling government and in turn, our lives. Sometimes you have to compromise to avoid REAL disaster...and trust me, that's what the GOP is facing right now.

Matheson would make a fine Republican...or the Democrat Senator the Republicans can depend on.

Bored to the point of THIS!

I agree with Senator Hatch.

Mike Lee needs learn a few things before he tries to convince everyone that he has all the answers.

Mr Hatch, I voted for you but you have just lost my support!

I WAS a big fan of Hatch growing up in a nearby state when he defeated Frank Moss who became grossly out of touch with Utah and the Intermountain West.

Hatch has overstayed by about 3 terms too long and it is time for him to go. In 2012, why didn't we get someone who actually represents Utah's needs and the cause of liberty and freedom from an overreaching Federal Government?

I'm done with Hatch, I'm done with any Republican that thinks that more government is the answer. Hatch is no different from Bob Bennett.

Think before you speak, Senator Hatch! At least Lee took a stance. Republicans have done nothing to stop Obamacare! Maybe you ought to worry more about the 2014 campaign. I hope Utahans find a candidate to unseat you!

I have been trying to "Rehabilitate" Orrin Hatch into retirement for 18 years. He is the one who forgot the real reason he was sent to Washington, and he is long overdue to come home for good.

What arrogance! These comments by Hatch, who was basically AWOL over these important issues, demonstrate why Utah should have retired Hatch in the last election. We don't hear anything from this "representative" of the people unless he can do so to make himself look like he's doing something, which he isn't. Bob Bennett has won new respect from me in his thoughtful and insightful editorial column. I think we retired the wrong guy.

Go Senator Lee... you are backed by the majorities... Senator Hatch just blows with the wind, which is why we are in this mess...

This Democrat is going to register as a Republican so I can vote against Lee and for Hatch in any Primary elections.

No, Sen. Hatch, you are the one who needs to be rehabilitated, to be the conservative champion warrior that you yourself used to be many years ago. You think that you are older and wiser, but, sadly, your arrogance is showing. Sen. Mike Lee is doing a great job, and I’m proud of him.

To Sorrytowakeyou:

Just a note on the debt ceiling, the value of currency and who is really taking straight and who is hiding behind smoke and mirrors. First, not raising the debt ceiling means that the FED can't offer anymore asset purchases to the government, essentially slowing or possibly ending the creation of 80 billion dollars each month. That would increase "competition" for the remaining dollars and increase of the value of those dollars in circulation. Lee: 1, Hatch: 0

Second, not raising the debt ceiling does not mean the USA defaults on its debt. We take in more than enough money to pay all our debt obligations each month with tax revenue. What it does mean is that the government would have to cut some spending, something they adamantly refuse to do in congress, but something the rest of us do routinely when money is in short supply. Lee 2, Hatch 0

Finally, fiat currency like our dollar and every currency on the planet these days, has value only as long as their is a demand for it in the marketplace. That demand will dry up if we keep printing money. Slow the flow. Lee: 3, Hatch 0

Senator Hatch and those like him are the problem and they don't want any junior politicians messing with their gravy train. We need more junior politicians.... Go Lee...

Senator Hatch isn't originally from Utah? I was astonished to read that he came from Pennsylvania. I thought Senator Hillary Clinton was the only one who moved to a different state in order to get elected.

These comments are proof that Utah is divided in the GOP. Matheson is going to have a cake walk and will make a fair, boring Senator, but the best choice so far.
