@ Samurai Jake:

If you don't let a negative bias get in your way, you'd see that it's a positive for Utah whenever BYU now wins. Each time they do so, itt improves Utah's strength of schedule... and consequently their rankings which factor those things in.

Also, if you happened to have watched all of BYU's game, you would've noticed that BYU also had miscues (especially some penalties that the announcers, after tv reviews said were "tough calls" ... meaning questionable calls) that would've given BYU a much easier win. Would-have's and should-have's are all part of the game and usually go both ways.
As a side note, BYU had many more sustained drives, triple digit more yardage, double digit more first downs and much more time of possession in their game. Those facts make it hard to argue that they didn't deserve their win against Houston.

That said, I was impressed with how Utah's backup qb came in and provided a much needed spark for his team. In fact, he lead them to their only lead in the game and also had better stats.

LOL at these inconsistent U fans whining about BYU barely beating a 5-0 team, while the Utes were losing to a very weak 4-2 team that, besides Utah, has only beaten N Ariz, UNLV(4-3), and UTSA(2-5).

You're that team that is ranked below BYU in almost every national ranking.

@ Elmer Fudd:

Why do you think Texas is overrated? Just because BYU beat them? Don't let your negative biases get into your way of thinking. Texas just beat a very good #12 ranked Oklahoma on Saturday, they have a better record than Utah and also lead the Big 12 conference. Those facts make your comment seem pretty uninformed.

Do you know how many PAC12 teams Utah has lost multiple times to? By your reasoning, that means that all of them "own" Utah. That's pretty sad and doesn't leave you much to brag about.

@ UteNationAlum:

I just went back and read all the comments on this article. I couldn't find any that could be contrived as "Y fans beating their chests after beating Houston". Most were commenting on Utah's game. As such, your comments seem to portray a bit of paranoia and also some of what you accuse the Y fan base of... some delusion.

The fact is, the Y beat an unbeaten, conference-leading team and on the road. Nothing wrong in taking some pride in that. I'm sorry Utah lost to a mediocre team this week. But don't take it out on others.

Who are all these Y fans beating their chests about beating Houston? The only person that even brings up the Houston game is Tators and he's not exactly 'beating his chest.'

Sounds like you wanted to bring up BYU but needed a strawman.

While he has had his struggles, I personally admire Travis Wilson. He has played hard through a lot of adversity this year. Here's to a speedy recovery.

Not sure keeping injuries a secret is really to Utah's advantage if the Utes are going to play injured players anyway.

Good luck to Travis on a speedy recovery.

Giving an untested quarterback his first start, on the road, against USC doesn't sound like a winning formula for success.

I hope Wilson's injury isn't season ending. The Utes still have a lot of work to do to just become bowl eligible and I think Wilson gives them the best shot. I also agree with an above post that throwing your backup into their first start at the coliseum is a tough task for anyone. I guess we will know more as the week progresses but I'm hoping for the best.

No matter who plays that game, the Utes need to have a better start. I would like to see them stop a team on the first possession rather than allowing them to march down the field for a touch down. They have put themselves in a hole in every conference game this year.

Go Utes!

Utah and BYU are similar in so many ways. 1) delusional fan bases both think they are elite programs while the other is lousy. 2)Both are supporting barely above average teams. 3) Neither team is having a great season. 4) Both teams have tough talented quarterbacks. 5) Both claim to be young teams, but really have many seniors that will be hard to replace.

This is on fan who reads these comments because they are better than the comics. Keep them coming.

Because they lost to a very mediocre BYU team and exposed by a decent Ole Miss team. Their win over Oklahoma doesn't mean their the best team in the Big 12. The Sooners are overrated like they are every year. Their 3 Big 12 wins aren't that great! Kansas State is in a down year, they almost lost to Iowa State (which should have been a loss). But they are 3-0 as of right now, but we'll see for sure what kind of team Texas is this year when they reach their final four conference games (@ West Virginia, #19 Oklahoma State, #10 Texas Tech, @ #8 Baylor). As of right now, Texas hasn't shown they're a great team, just a mediocre team.

With your reasoning then you would agree that Stanford and UCLA are not overrated based on your Texas argument?

In another thread, you attempted to correct me by stating that the game would have gone into overtime had the Houston receiver caught the two-point conversion. Sounds like we all need to get our facts straight.

Final record and ranking are yet to be determined, but it's not looking good for the Utes.

@ Elmer Fudd:

You keep trying to convince us what a mediocre team Texas is... in-spite of them just beating #12 team in the country and having a better record that Utah. (Funny that when Utah beats a ranked team, they are considered great. But when anyone else even remotely associated with BYU does it, that team is "overrated"). Also, literally all major polls and national ratings services now have Texas ranked better than Utah. So if Texas is so mediocre, what does that say about how Utah should be considered?

BTW: The "very mediocre BYU" team that you so labeled is currently ranked better than Texas, who in turn is ranked better than Utah. The more you try to diss such teams, the worse you are making the Utes look. So according to you and the polls, Utah is now definitely worse than 'very mediocre" teams. Certainly doesn't say much for how you must feel about Utah. Going to be a long season for some Ute fans. BYU hasn't lost since then and Utah has lost all but once. Things have changed a lot since September 21st.

Tators,

I think that you have probably put in enough pages of useless analysis, rationalization, psychoanalydis, and speculation in your never ending quest to convince yourself that the team that got drilled at home by their rival is the better team to earn a PhD in philosophy. Congratulations Dr Tators!

Too bad that the only thing that counts is the scoreboard.

"Too bad that the only thing that counts is the scoreboard."

Try to remember that when the Utes are once again spending bowl week on the couch while Stanford is once again playing in the Rose Bowl.

I'm sure that thought was very comforting to Texas A&M last season as the Aggies were watching Alabama beat Notre Dame in the BCS championship game.

Too bad Utah fans are so entrenched in their own distorted view of the world that they are blind to the reality that one game does not a season make.

Sparkley Briefs

Talkin nonsense,

No distortion. Utah has played very well against 3 teams in the top 25, winning one and losing two. This tells me that the Utes are a pretty good, but not elite team. Utah drilled BYU in Provo. I know that you and Dr Tators can throw nonsense out there about yards gained, mindset, etc. and note that the final score was only 7 points difference, but at no time during the second half did you or anyone else watching that game think that the Cougs were going to win. They were drilled! In all of Utah's losses, they were in position to win late in the game with the outcomes in doubt to the last few minutes. That was against VERY good teams. Beating up inferior competition and getting your rear ends handed to you on the field does not make you the better team. Maybe we should all not play the game on the field and declare the winner based on analytical review? I think the Utes go to a bowl game this year. We will just have to wait and see. The question about whether Utah is better than BYU has already been answered.

"In all of Utah's losses, they were in position to win late in the game with the outcomes in doubt to the last few minutes."

And yet you and your cronies would never afford the same kind statement to the Cougars that lost on the final play of how many games with the Utes, with Boise, etc.

Nice rose colored glasses you wear.

The end of the season decides the war, not the little battles and national recognition and honors is what matters most... especially to those bowl-less in December whining about not getting any.

Utes are the biggest whiners and in the biggest denial trip about these things. Ute fans make the biggest squawk about this rivalry when the majority of fans state they've moved on when in reality they haven't, they won't and they can't because they are not winning where they are at.

Yeah, it would be great to beat the Utes but it's not the most important thing.

BYU has moved on to independence and is gaining success.

Utes have not though insecure fans think they have.

Love the BYU recognition. It drives Ute fans crazy.

Yeah, it's been great to beat the Cougs, but it hasn't been the most important thing.

Utes have moved on to elite conference play, and are gaining improvement and success.

BYU has more insecure fans than they would care to admit.

Love the Utes' progress. Especially over their bitter rival. It drives Cougs fans insane.
