Looks like Rhett was dead wrong.

While I see that the author was simply sensationalizing the fact that the Aggies have a lot of injuries, it's interesting that he also completely wrote off the rest of the season because of their personnel losses. Seems like there needs to be a follow up on this article referencing the fact that the Aggies have not fallen down and rolled over dead. There's still some fight in those guys. Kudos to Matt Wells and his staff and to the Aggie players for stepping up their game.

Thank you for your prediction Rhett. Now might be a good time to reconsider and predict the Aggies will go 8-4 and end up in a very nice postseason bowl game. ;-)

Looks like the author of this article way over-reacted (i.e. missed-the-boat entirely). USU has gone 3-0 since he wrote it. So the world played out exactly like we die-hard USU fans said it would. Relatively easy opponents for the remainder of the schedule have translated into three wins and zero losses since this article was written. I'm willing to bet that the winning streak goes to 5 wins and zero losses by the end of the regular season.

Will USU win its bowl game? Hard to tell, but I would give us even odds of doing so.

I think it's time that Rhett Wilkinson takes accountability for his recent articles predicting impending doom for the Aggies season.

Boy it sure is nice reading this article after the Aggies got to their six win and qualified for the post season. Way to prove the doubters wrong Ags!

    @Go Big Blue

Of course it is. Why would the experts know what they are talking about. Clearly we should leave it up to fan's who believe the aggies should be undefeated and the defending National Champions.

  • Go Big Blue!!! Bountiful, UT
    Oct. 23, 2013 10:05 a.m.

Clearly the premise of the article is flawed. The Aggies have a great shot at winning out the rest of the season. USU will be favored in most if not all of the remaining games.

I don't have to fish. The aggies are just bad this year. Even the article say's they won't make the post season.

    Good call Striker.

I believe the last few games have told us just how much stang and striker know about Aggie football. Of course you don't want to talk about Utah this week. I don't believe stang is a fan of any team just a hatred for anything USU. To talk about a quarterback not being very good because they got hurt. Give me a break. I guess there isn't any good quarterbacks in Utah this year since they've all been hurt.

  • Sambonethegreat Salt Lake City, UT
    Oct. 20, 2013 10:30 a.m.

Yeah Striker, I was REALLY shocked by New Mexico's run game... shocked at how ineffective it was against our defense (which you insisted was no good).

We beat them at their own game handily. If our offense continues to click like it did last night, I see just about no reason why we can't win out the rest of the way.

Unless of course you think an 0-6 Hawaii team will surprise us. Doubt it.

  • John S. Harvey Sandy, UT
    Oct. 20, 2013 8:29 a.m.

Well it looks like the author was completely out-to-lunch on this call.

USU was dominate. Likely they will win out.

    Oct. 19, 2013 11:27 p.m.

You're right striker. That New Mexico run game is something else. And as far as making a bowl game, after the thrashing Colorado St just gave to Wyoming, I will be disappointed if the Aggies don't finish 3rd in the MWC behind Boise and Fresno. Utah St doesn't really have any games they should lose the rest of the year.

Stang, always fishing for a reason when the Aggies win and then pumping the chest when someone else wins. Can't loose with that type of philosophy. Although, I am impressed, your grammar has improved this year.

  • Go Big Blue!!! Bountiful, UT
    Oct. 19, 2013 7:42 p.m.

Looks like Striker is as brilliant as the writer of this article. Unfortunately they didn't tell the USU Aggies. They are running the New Mexico team of the field.

Yes, USU will go bowling again.

"They based their entire game plan around him."

They did. Ag fans were saying how they'd beat BYU and Boise, but got crushed by both. Now they go on the road to an unfamiliar place and still say they'll beat them easily. UNM puts up lots and lots of yards. They'll smash you with their running game. I watched them play one game and that rushing attack is really good. Reminds of me Army or AFA at their full strength. USU will struggle to win this one. No one saw three losses in a row coming did they? Don't worry, Utah lost to UNM twice in two years, even when UNM had a losing season. UNM can surprise teams, and with USU fans taking this team lightly, they are in for a shock tomorrow.

What folks fail to realize when they claim the defense wasn't successful in stopping teams after Keeton's injury is that lack of offense takes its toll on the defense in many ways...field position, time of possession, fatigue. If the offense can put up some points and control the ball, then the defense will be just fine. Hopefully DG can do better. But between Aggie basketball and football injuries it has been an awful year.

  • Stang08 Southern, UT
    Oct. 17, 2013 5:16 p.m.

Don't you have something better to do? Again the aggies aren't helping themselves and they haven't proved me wrong. If they continue to do so then they need to look at who is playing right now. It's not Keeton anymore. He had skill I'll give him that but not enough to have that nickname. He went down to easy and if you are the best you don't go down easy. Thanks for that compliment. Only I knew how bad the aggies would be. Keeton is the only player the aggies ever counted on. Is that or is it not true? They based their entire game plan around him. He got hurt and they are falling apart. As you can plainly see with the last few games. I'm going by fact. It's not that hard to look at fact. Unless you are an aggie apparently.

  • Stanglette Alpine, Utah
    Oct. 17, 2013 3:24 p.m.

The MEDIA is who pronounced Keeton the best QB in the state and continue to do so.

Are you suggesting that a players skill level by an injury or when they were injured in a game?

That shows a lot about your knowledge of anything.

You went on and on last year about how bad the Aggies were and you were wrong, now you are beating your chest that you are right? Wow... what a grand wizard you are, a true soothsayer of the future of Aggie football.

It is either that, or you keep calling tails long enough, you will be right every now and then...

  • Stang08 Southern, UT
    Oct. 17, 2013 12:49 p.m.

    @Mad Martigan

Have the aggies done anything to prove me wrong? Nope, they continue to make my points stronger. They've made no progress since Andersen got out of town. And as far as Keeton goes, the fan's insisted he was the best in the state. Yet he is out for the season and went down in the first quearter of a game. That doesn't mark the "best" does it? So my points stand and are backed up by the aggies playing.

Listened to Rhett on the radio last night. He should stick to writing, as the radio folks tore apart his thought process Rhett was basically tongue tied. Ags go 4 and 1 the rest of the season and go bowling. Best of luck to the Utes who are showing a lot, and good luck to the Cougs also, they are looking good (as bad as I hate to admit it) Rhett is not giving enough respect to the teams the Aggies have lost to. USC is still USC, Utah is stronger than they showed early on, BYU has one of the best defenses in the nation, and Boise is hitting their stride. So yes the Aggie have lost to 4 of the top programs in the West. But none of the remaining teams on their schedule are in the same universe as the Trojans, the Utes, the Cougars, and the Broncos. I say 4 and 1 because there is probably a trap game somewhere in there aka Virginia or Oregon State.

Wait till Saturday night, then one of two things will be apparent: 1) The author will be revealed as know-nothing doomsayer who just can't wrap his head around the progress USU has made with respect to football. or 2) The writer will be viewed as having made a good call.

I think USU wins by ten points, but the game will be very revealing whichever way it turns out.

It's a realization we all come to. Differences of opinion exist, and no anonymous posting on an internet message board will put these differences into harmony. Stang08 has his platform of commenting on every Aggie article and insisting Chuckie and the Aggies are no good. Can't convince him otherwise ChrisB has his of general Ute superiority in everything. ChrisB is also firm in his stance. Those opinions aside, I do believe- the Aggies will get to seven wins and go to a bowl game.

  • Mars_ Logan, UT
    Oct. 17, 2013 8:08 a.m.

Lotta folks just plain hope the Aggies fail.

I used to think that commenting on the boards would get people to change their minds, as I try to stay reasoned and grounded in my assertions, opinions, and predictions. Wonder if other people feel the same about me? Probably.

All the same, I think the Aggies go 3-2 to finish the season and wind up at 6-6 with a FIPB invite.

It's difficult for a statistically good defense like USU's to hold tough opponents like Boise and BYU to under 30 points when they are on the field so often. USU lost those games because the offense couldn't do enough. Thus, the defense got gassed.

NONE of the opponents left on the schedule are as hard as Boise or BYU. Like another poster said, very friendly schedule for developing a new quarterback.

  • Striker Omaha, NE
    Oct. 16, 2013 9:14 p.m.

"But their opponents were BYU and BSU. Both very good teams who have been scoring a lot of points the last few weeks. They don't play another team as good as either of those two and they still have a very good defense."

I'm amazed at the logic of this person and others. How can you call a team having a "very good defense" when that defense allowed over 30 points at home and got destroyed each time? That is an awful defense. Both offense and defense of USU are pitiful. What makes anyone think they'll be better on the road? All these teams can put up points. USU is in serious danger.

"Hawaii — Just awful this year. Win easily." Are you for real??!! They almost knocked off Fresno and were leading UNLV until the final FG by UNLV.

"New Mexico — Very one dimensional." But put up loads of points and yards. Hardly a team to take lightly. A loss there likely means the Coach Potato Bowl for this team.

Lets start with New Mexico. They have two wins against two teams with a combined one win they got playing each other. Their D is horrible and they have have no passing attack. USU can stop the run... and that is all they will need to do for this game.

The schedule is very friendly to develop a young quarterback.
at New Mexico, bye, vs. Hawaii, at UNLV, bye, vs. Colorado State, and vs. Wyoming.

In regards to comparing Darell Garretson to Travis Wilson... Cal, Washington State, and Colorado are the same or better than New Mexico, Colorado State, Hawaii, UNLV and Wyoming. If he is anything like Wilson, they will win all 5 of the remaining games. Also, Darell Garretson was taking practice team snaps prior to October 4th... giving up on a guy

  • Stang08 Southern, UT
    Oct. 16, 2013 3:46 p.m.

They won't make the post seasno because they don't have the supposed "Best QB in the state" anymore. That nickname cracks me up. That and the fact that they are playing in the WAC 2.0 are the only reason's they've won as many games as they have.

    Oct. 16, 2013 2:40 p.m.

Luckily the rest of the season hasn't happened. I think USU still wins enough to go bowling in spite of the many good players lost to injury!

Sheesh Mr. Wilkinson, way to kick a team when its down with this article, you should call Coach Wells and have them just forfeit the rest of the season.

Well, I guess we just need to have the sports writers decide the season---no need to lace-em-up and play the games. After all, wasn't Stanford, on paper, supposed to win handily in Salt Lake? And Texas, too, in Provo for that matter?

On any given day........that's the beauty and fun of watching the game.

A very good defense, and an improving average offense will lead to a bowl game.

Utah State will win more games in the MWC than Utah did.

Yes, USU has been outscored in the last 7 quarters since Keeton was injured. But their opponents were BYU and BSU. Both very good teams who have been scoring a lot of points the last few weeks. They don't play another team as good as either of those two and they still have a very good defense. I am thinking they will win 4 more games and be bowling.

Look at what happened to BYU, Ute's and TCU when were apart of the MWC, they were good, but after these teams left the MWC they all went downhill. PAC 12 is a better conference, but the Ute's were a better team and funner to watch in the MWC.

Ags will make the postseason despite the injuries. Yes, we got outscored badly in the last two games, but they were two of the hardest opponents on the schedule. Any experienced and established team will make a team that lacks depth in key areas look weaker. The Ags have improved that area in the last few years, but they are a couple years away from being fully there.

    As for the schedule:

New Mexico — Very one dimensional. Poor match-up against Aggie D, too. Our new QB should get his bearings and we win by a touchdown. The bye will help a lot.

Hawaii — Just awful this year. Win easily.

UNLV — While seemingly improved, their victories have been close and the Rebels don't have the defensive depth we have. We can win a close one, and then we get a bye.

CSU — We get them at home, and our QB should be well prepared because of the bye. Close win.

    Wyoming — Shootout, toss-up.

I think ChrisyBu forgot about Fresno State that is also in the MWC. They are only ranked 17th in the nation but atleast we have his comment to reflect upon.

Frankly I'm embarrassed I used to get excited for games with New Mexico, UNLV, San Diego, Wyoming. The MWC is a bad bad league. Their best team(Boise) even got manhandled by the 4th best team in the Pac 12 Washington.
