    @WannaBeSmart:

"BYU has 25% percent as many titles as the Pac-12 in the last 30 years."

Huh? PAC Conference titles and WAC conference titles aren't even in the same realm.

Please tell me you're not trying to glorify YbU's WAC dominance over conference foes such as New Mexico, UNLV, and Colorado State? BAH HA HA

Let's put it this way: WAC dominance means pretty much zero, which is why Utah jumped at the chance to join an actual elite conference, for the chance to play actual elite conference opponents.

And sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but BYU hitting the national ranking more consistently under Mendenhall also means pretty much zero, because sneaking into the top 25 against a primarily cup cake slate of games doesn't leave much to brag about!

It's ok. BYU gets their crack at Stanford in a few years...right about the same time that Utah gets their golden opportunity for 5 straight rivalry wins!!!

    Go Utes!

    Samurai Jack
Utah has a lot of things going for it, and they have a good team this year.
    Pac-12 (Conference of Champions)
    Since BYU won nation title
Pac 12 members have won it 4 times 1989 (colorado), 1991 (Washington), 2003 (USC), 2004 (USC, disputed)
Basketball 1 national champion in 1999.
Before you go attacking another school attack the Pac-12 for not producing a champion in almost 10 years in Football. BYU has 25% percent as many titles as the Pac-12 in the last 30 years.
BYU still has historically defeated the higher ranked opponent (beat a #3 in 2009)
Excluding Utah BYU is 2-1 in the last 3 years versus the Pac (I bet they respect BYU)
BYU has not come close to the BCS but since Whittingham and Mendenhall took over BYU has hit the National Ranking more consistently.
Head to Head recruiting for BYU and Utah 2014 BYU-4 Utah-1
Also an interesting note. BYU 37 scholarship offers for 15 committs. Utah 131 for 12, The way things are shaping out this year Utah will have to fill out there class with 2 star or lower commits.

You can't rain on the parade. When you can't man up and give Utah props for out plaing the #5 team in the country you lose all credibility on these boards.

    @Tators:

I hate to rain on your byu love-fest parade...but here's reality:

*Utah has byu's number, and has won four consecutive rivalry games.
*Utah plays in the Conference of Champions, byu never will.
*Utah defeated a higher ranked opponent than byu did.
*Utah defeated a higher ranked CONFERENCE opponent, that had national implications on the line, and still remains ranked inside the top 15.
*Utah has the respect of fellow PAC-12 Conference opponents, byu does not.
*Utah has the chance for 5 consecutive rivalry wins, byu does not.
*Utah has a chance to play in the Rose Bowl every season, byu never will.
*Utah has produced more NFL players than byu.
*Utah has two undefeated seasons resulting in two BCS Bowl victories, byu hasn't even come close.
*Utah has defeated top 5 ranked Alabama; byu never has and most likely never will.
*Utah has the clear recruiting advantage in the state; byu has "tradition, spirit, honor"
*Utah has been playing better football than byu for over a decade; byu will struggle to restore past glory of the 70s and 80s.
*Utah WILL end the season ranked higher than byu, based on higher quality "body of work"

"But the national experts, who take every quantitative measurement into consideration, still consider BYU to be the better team."

No, some crazy algorithms consider BYU a better team. Football experts undoubtedly consider Utah a better team than BYU, and there really is no question each year after the game is played. Any further comparison after the game has no foundation with the teams having completely different schedules. If the two end up meeting in a bowl game and BYU wins, THEN they can actually have claim of being the better team. But the first part of that scenario is unlikely, and the second part even less likely.

I hate to rain on this love-fest parade of Ute party goers. But after all is said and done after the games this weekend, BYU is STILL ranked BETTER than Utah in the latest USA Today Sagarin rankings... #24 to #25. Keep your chasing going, little brother. You're getting closer, but are not quite there yet. Yes, you were barely better on one particular day in September. But the national experts, who take every quantitative measurement into consideration, still consider BYU to be the better team. I couldn't agree more.

    @ Elmer Fudd:

The crow doesn't taste any different than it did when Ute fans ate it after the Texas game.

    @ Uteology:

Go back and read a lot of the Ute fan's statements to this article. Many are the equivalent to dancing in the streets, hugging strangers, and any other things you accuse BYU fans of doing after beating ranked teams. We don't quite get as excited as you, since we've done it more often. We've even beaten #1 ranked fans at home, while it's literally been 40 years since Utah beat a top 10 team at home (1973).

And now, after getting just their first conference win of the season, (even then Stanford was within 6 yards from taking that away). It's funny you and a few other hilarious Ute fans suddenly think they are conference elites and sitting on top of the world. Well, enjoy it for a few more days before reality sets in and you have find out how difficult it is to win conference games on the road. Utah is yet to play one of those this season. However, it's now possible you might... just might finish with a winning record.

"Remember one game does not guarantee a PAC - 12 championship."

True but but then again unlike BYU fans we didn't dance in the streets, hugged perfect strangers, lit off fireworks, and in general celebrate and celebrate and celebrate a 1-0 Quest?

"The opposition teams have been taking the Utes too lightly and now they'll have to give them more attention."

Like BYU in their Super Bowl?

Apparently you haven't been reading ESPN, "What we learned in the Pac-12: Week 6":

Utah won’t make things easy in the South: The conference record might not show it, but Utah is a pretty good football team.

Despite going 3-0 in its nonconference schedule, the Utes have yet to really make an impact in conference play. But they’ve made it tough for others -- pushing Oregon State into overtime a couple of weeks ago and then putting a scare into UCLA... For a team that’s expected to be in the hunt for the Pac-12 South, you have to imagine they are happy to have Utah in their rearview mirror.

Great win for Utah. It's nice to see Kyle get his 75th win against the fifth ranked team in the nation. After coming so close in their other conference games, it was great to see them finally pull one out in the end.

I was happy to see Wilson bounce back from the interceptions last week against UCLA. It was also cool to see him get a helmet sticker on ESPN last night. Dres Anderson had a great game as well and his TD catch made ESPN's top ten. It was also cool to see byu's Hoffman make a great catch that also made the top ten list. I don't think the cougs and the Utes have ever both had a top ten play the same week so it was good to get some notice.

I hope the Utes can take this momentum down to AZ and get another win. They still have a lot of work to do to become bowl eligible.

    Go Utes!

@Christopher B - "Byu fans And you were saying? And YES, having better athletes(higher stars) is a big reason we are better than you."

I was dropping in to say congrats on a great win and then I read this? If having more stars was so important, U would have lost to Stanford. Not sure why U are commenting on BYU stars on a Utah article. It's the same argument U have raised many times. And your win over Stanford takes the wind out of your argument.

The view must be very different up there in Vancouver. I don't know how you can conclude that Oregon St. and UCLA were easy teams to win against. Was Weber State one of those big games the Utes show up for?

Incidentally, a great win for the Utes! Hope they keep it going and win their division! I'm just bummed out that I couldn't see the game anywhere here in the east coast which surprised me considering it was against #5 Standford.

Congrats Ute Fans! What a huge win for your program. Spokane Ute said it best with what classy comments from the Standford players and coaches. They did give all the credit to Utah in their play. If you Ute fans remember, the UCLA players and coaches did the same thing the week before. In my opinion, Utah is and has gained the respect of the PAC-12. Utah is not a doormat in the PAC-12, they have represented very well since joining and I believe will only get better. With this win, they are back in the hunt for the PAC-12 South Championship. Yes they lost to my Bruins, but UCLA still has to play a very tough Stanford and Oregon team the next two weeks. As much as I love my Bruins, that just might be two straight losses on the road at both. And Utah didn't do me and my Bruins any favors by winning last night. Now Stanford has something to prove next week. I am not like ChrisB, I just don't make predictions for my team to win. I am a realist. Congrats Utes!

As to the BYU fan question:

For those that aren't on this board there is a...war between a few BYU posters and a few Utah posters. The remarks about BYU fans eating crow should be read as Duckhunter and Sammyg eating crow. If look at the history of the lead up to this game these fans were calling for a blow out of Utah Weber proportions. So, some of it is justified considering the history.

Outside of Oregon, the PAC 12 is overrated, as Stanford proved tonight. Why was Stanford #5? Preseason hype pure and simple. A soft non-conference schedule of San Jose St and Army with 3 wins against PAC 12 cupcakes does not make you #5 in the country. I bet Stanford loses another 3 games this year, taking most of the luster off of Utah's win tonight. Stanford probably finishes the year out of the top 25.

Great game utes... Congratulations utah fans... That was a huge win... One that I thought that you had no chance of getting but you really proved me and others like me wrong... Again, congratulations.

Now get yourselves a couple more wins and get yourself into a bowl.

What a great game. There were a few big plays as a result of great athletes and missed tackles and the opening drive, but aside from that, our defense really kept them from moving the ball.
    An all around great game.
I expected to be competitive, but I did not expect to win tonight; but it feels so good to have been wrong.
Poole had a heck of a game, Orchard was fantastic with two forced fumbles, Drez made a perfect adjustment to get that big catch for a TD, and Wilson looked strong after a tough loss.
A big testament to how tough this team is. Oh, and Philips is solid; I imagine having the pressure of being an Olympic skier makes those situations easier, he is used to performing when the pressure is on.
I am excited for the upcoming games and how much this win will propel us.

    Just a solid win.

Great win! We were finally able to win the TO battle against a good PAC-12 team. Big signature win, but it's still only one game. No let downs, lets get ready for Arizona next week.

    Go UTES!!

Coach Whit gets his signature win. The monkee is off their backs. And I humbly suggest that if you can do that to Stanford you can do it to anybody. Nicely done, gentleman. VERY nicely done.

Poor coaching decisions by Stanford on the last possession that handed the game to utah.

Dominant win, despite the close score, and "blueprint" or not, I'm not sure how many other teams have the horses to do that to Stanford.

Great win! Stanford Coach Shaw was right when he said Utah's offense had shown the potential to move the ball and get going. Certainly during the first half at least. I do think that the strength of Utah's defense matched up well with the strength of Stanford's offense. Keeping the Cardinal O off the field for long period of times certainly helped.

Chris B, Christopher B, and every other moniker you post with-- why does a Utah victory have to somehow be about BYU? You really are obessed with BYU.

From a BYU fan, congrats on the HUGE win, Utes. But guess what, I am a BYU fan. Not a Stanford fan. So please continue to rub it in my face that you beat Stanford. It really doesn't matter too much to me either way. I came on here just to give a friendly congratulations, but when I saw the Ute fans that were trying to make this win another victory over BYU instead of a victory over #5 Stanford, I thought I had to say something. The Ute football team is probably the real deal this year. Most Ute fans, on the other hand, are their same BYU-obsessed lame selves. Congrats.

  • StGtoSLC SALT LAKE CITY, UT

At UA, at SC, vs ASU, at UO, at WSU, vs CU. Only one of those games seems entirely out of reach (but after tonight's defensive performance, who even knows about that?), with two wins needed to reach bowl eligibility. After that, it's just onto what Coach Whit calls the "BBG Principle": playing for the bigger bowl game. If (but hopefully when) Utah does gain eligibility, the win tonight will make them look much more attractive to the Alamo, Holiday or Sun Bowl committees.

@Duckhunter Just a reminder of you comments:
"That game in salt lake certainly won't be the "best" game. That one has far more likelyhood of the home team being absolutely curb stomped than any other game on Saturday. Although I suppose that might be a matter of preference as some people will enjoy watching that occur. I myself will be down on LES and will just have to get the updates on the embarrassment in salt lake."

In case you didn't get the updates, there was no embarrassment in Salt Lake.

    Oct. 12, 2013 9:03 p.m.

Congrats Utes! I am a BYU fan but I don't hate Utah because I think the rivalry hate is silly (on both sides), except maybe a little bit in the actual week before the rivalry game. I am always happy when teams from the state of Utah win, especially when they beat a high ranked team like Stanford. That was a great, great, great win.

And I admit that I didn't see it coming, so rub it in my face if you want but I don't see why Utah fans feel the need to do that. You beat #5 Stanford. BYU has nothing to do with that win, but you keep bringing us back up. I guess I am just confused at the BYU obsession from some Utah fans. Its almost like some of you like the win mostly because you can rub it in BYU fan's faces, and the fact that you beat the #5 ranked team in the country is only the means to that end to some of you.

Congrats again! Good luck on the rest of the season! Go Cougars! Go Utes! Go Aggies!

Congratulations Utah, nice job but all you Utah fans still ribbing BYU should get your priorities straight. The PAC 12 network were explaining Stanford's loss as a result of their game last week with Washington. Although I am a BYU fan, I appreciate your success because it is good for the State. The way I see it, the outside world still does not give us respect for how good both teams are.
