Why are both the first two games at Stanford? Why does it go Provo,
Provo, Stanford, Stanford, or at least Provo, Stanford, Provo, Stanford?I guess one of these teams had a little more negotiating power? Is cash also being given to Stanford as part of the deal? Likely.
Add 1 good and 2 nobodies. That pretty much sums up byu's
schedule since going independentPlaying 10 games against BCS schools

wouldn't know. You'll have to trust us. it's more difficult to
be sure, but better.
byu 2014 schedule only has THREE power conference teamsTexasVirginia(LOL)CalWhat a WEAK schedule! Why
don't you guys just join the Pac 12 or Big 12 and have 10 games against
power conference teams at least? Can't hack it?
@ Christopher B:Regardless of where these games are played, the main
purpose of scheduling them is to show Utah exactly and precisely how to beat
Stanford, since Utah will soon be showing everyone that they have no clue at all
as to how it's done. It's quite humorous how you often
belittle BYU for having a soft schedule. Then we schedule tougher teams, you
still find something to complain about. Enough with your anti-BYU paranoia.
Every day, for the next 7 years, we're going to have to read about how byu
is going to play Stanford. Utah plays them in 4 days, and multiple times before
2020. Go Utes beat Stanford.
@ ChristoperB:You are correct. We wouldn't know what's it
like to play 10 games against BCS schools. Neither do we know what it's
like to lose most of them... the way Utah does year-in and year-out... never
having beaten even one with a winning record. Never. We'll just have to
take your word for it on how that feels.Good luck with your goal of
trying to stay out of the conference cellar this year. As it currently stands
and appears, you're really going to need it.
I don't know ChristoperB, is it better to be on the bottom and then staying
home and watching ALL the bowl games in your mother's basement?
Get a life. We could schedule Alabama for a home and home and you'd still
find something to criticize!
Chris, congrats on picking the winner in the latest installment of the Holy War.
I still question your (8-4) prediction for the Utes but, if that holds up
I'll sing your praises. That said, calm down bro! I don't
think the Pac 12 is going to clear Utah off Stanford's schedule or
anything.Good luck the rest of the way. You've got a QB who
can win you some games if his receivers don't have passes bouncing off
Wow Chris you are incredible. First you say how no BCS team should ever do a
one and one with a non BCS team. Now that the top dawg of the conference has
done it, you point out something else. Who cares if the first 2 are at Stanford
or BYU. How much crow are you going to eat? What will your next point be? Hey
I bet stanford won't even wear the best uniforms. Or maybe we are sp
irrelevant they will have the back up band members playing.
Right, Utah is 7 wins and 13 losses in the Pac-12. Thanks for reminding
New name, same ol' comments.
I believe that should round out the schedule for '14 but I haven't
been able to find it listed all in one place. Anyone know it or know where to
find it? Chris-- you know all things BYU. What say you?
Re: Lincoln Coug" We could schedule Alabama for a home and home

Stanford, Stanford + reschedule, reschedule could likely happen. Hawaii is a good trip to recruit as BYU may have started the Poly chain into
the mainland but they aren't getting the best Poly players to come to BYU.
The best are going to Oregon, UCLA, USC, Utah, Oregon State, Washington, Arizona
and Arizona State.

Wow.Happy Hawaii is back on the schedule - great recruiting and
good November vacation.I don't understand Savannah St. This

Chrissy - I have some news for you .........The Oregons, Stanfords,

There's a certain fan that Utah fans have even disowned, that constantly
posts inflammatory words on BYU articles. And for a news outlet that wants
respectful dialogue, the DN seems to give it no mind. My suggestion: Don't
give this troll the time of day. Don't respond to hm, act as if he
doesn't even exist. He only makes comments to anger you guys. For whatever
reason this gives him delight. I would get into reasons but probably
wouldn't be accepted as "respectful dialogue". Ignore him. I'm
certainly going to from now on.
Stanford agreed to a home and home football deal with BYU not a 2 for 1? I was
told that this would never happen from a powerhouse BCS school (that is
currently ranked #5). Hmmm... I wonder if the DNews got there information
Thanks Hoover. Looks like one of these will need to get dropped since there are
Love the plan. Kinda difficult to get excited for a game that won't take
place until 2020. Just saying. Plenty of time for things to change.
I was waiting for the day the Y would finally schedule Savannah State. Wow -
what a pick up. Are they a junior college? Maybe they ought to add Dixie College
and SUU to future schedule too? Lots of big exposure for the Y coming.

that Stanford is not a power program or that playing four games is not
considered "associating" with another team. If not he needs to eat

Still no relief in scheduling meaningful home games in November. However, the
inclusion of Stanford on BYU's schedule should be a great recruiting tool.
Bronco should immediate contact promising 6th graders with the carrot that if
they choose BYU they can play Stanford.

Disappointing BYU is still going with the lower division team. They have a
chance to play any team in the country, and they pick one of the worst lower
divisions teams out there. There are several FBS teams who don't schedule
lower. Schedule FIU, Minnesota, or Temple for an easier win, but not teams like
that. Sometimes I think just being part of a conference like the
BIG XII would be better. They've already shown they can beat teams like
Texas and Oklahoma and TCU from that conference.
Striker, I wholeheartedly disagree. Having a few (2-3) patsies on the schedule,
especially early in the season is what BYU (and any other team) needs. Those
first few games are all about making adjustments and working out the kinks
before you get into the games that matter. So keep scheduling Savannah States
early and Stanfords later in the season and I'll be happy.
Savannah State? In November? The bad side of independence...
Yes, Wiscougarfan, that would be the ideal way to do it but Savannah St. plays
here the end of Nov. I still don't worry too much about it. Not ideal but
that's what we get with independence. And Striker-- Do you really think
BYU wouldn't join the Big 12 if it was their choice? BYU hasn't been
invited. Maybe some day they will be but not yet.
Looks like the Southern Miss game is going off the schedule.
Wiscfan,You have fallen for the Urban Meyer, Big Ten, Florida, SEC
syndrome...pile up patsies because "our conference schedule is too
tough." Those are what wimpy teams do...pile up the easy non-conference
wins and is exactly what Utah is doing (or thought they were doing before Fresno
became the class of their league). It's a cowardly approach to scheduling.
Do you know anything about Savannah State? They were included in an article by
ESPN that discussed how shameful it is big programs run up the score on other
smaller schools to get their easy win and pad their stats. SSU lost by at least
60 to two D1 schools. They have an average of one win per season since 2009.
They are the lowest of the low. I love watching D1 programs fall to
the lower programs. Serves them right for scheduling what they thought was an
"easy" win. BYU has fallen prey to this "easy" win
gimmick and now they have taken the lowest of the lowest. It's
embarrassing to the program. It's just not needed.
Our 2014 schedule looks like an SEC schedule.
Yes Savannah ST.! As a 43 year old life time BYU fan, I can honestly say, I
never thought the day would come that there would be a big announcement that
Savannah St. is on the schedule. I guess that's what happens when a team
that beats you for the last 4 years is still too scared to play you in future
Nothing screams little brother like a Utah fan trying to minimize a BYU schedule
10 years in the future.
"Looks like one of these will need to get dropped since there are 13
listed."Soup:By NCAA rule, a game with Hawaii, home
or away, Is exempt from the 12 game limit.
@CougFaninTXDoes BYU play Hawaii in 2014? Teams that play at Hawaii can
have 13 games (see: USC this season).
The u may play Stanford seven times before BYU does, but BYU will beat them
We win this schedule we can be nat champs again.
Hey Ute fans, what happened to:"The future of college football
in Utah is the Utah Utes.""It's time to bury the
Utah/BYU rivalry for good let the Utes find a true, big name rival."And yet, here you are, coming out in full force on a BYU article. I suppose knowing the Utes are likely to finish 5-7 again this season,
you need something to amuse yourselves with.

*84,Sorry, my intent was to snipe at the media for their biased
coverage. After thinking about it, I guess any scheduling additions for byu is
newsworthy, given their independent status. Have a good day... and....Go Utes!
1. Savannah State was scheduled to replace Southern Miss, which will be dropped.
Sorry guys, but there aren't a lot of high profile teams with a November
opening in their 2014 schedule.2. Football is routinely scheduled out
10-15 years in advance, so the Stanford announcement is not a surprise, nor an
oddity.3. I look forward to the day when all those ute fans who say they
have left us behind actually do so.

first2third:You need to quit relying on the Elmo Gazette for the
bulk of your sports news. To be honest, you don't come across as a BYU
sports fan at all. When Utah continues to schedule Weber State, a team Savanah
State could beat 90% of the time, I don't recall reading a critical comment
by you, like the one you've made on this article. The term "wolf in
sheep's clothing" comes to mind. To refresh your memory, it
was the Utes who cancelled the next few year's games with BYU... not the
other way around. BYU has said multiple times they will play Utah any and every
year they are willing. As such, if anyone actually comes across as appearing
scared in the rivalry, it's the Utes who cancelled previously scheduled
games. Keep watching and paying attention. Maybe someday you will
actually become a real BYU fan.

@ WacPadding...:To be honest with you, we (BYU fans) do very much
enjoy our current independent affiliation. We saw what happened to Utah after
joining the PAC10 and decided that wouldn't be nearly as fun as what we
currently have. BYU plays almost all of their games on national
television. Utah doesn't. But they do get to whenever they play BYU.BYU gets to play and win against ranked teams, thus knocking them out of
rankings. Utah hasn't beat a ranked team in years. As such, they elevate
most teams in the rankings whenever they play.BYU doesn't have
to live with the moniker of being a "Cellar Dweller" the way Utah
does.BYU wins most of their games and continues going to and winning
bowl games each year. Not so for the Utes. Sorry if you don't like these
things, but they are all indisputable facts. Why knock BYU for
scheduling a Savanah State team... especially since Utah plays their Weber State
teams, who could seldom ever beat Savanah State? If Utah does get lucky and
barely qualifies for a bowl game this year, they will have Weber State to thank.
I am very impressed with the addition of Virginia, Stanford, USC, Wisconsin, and
Texas. I am disappointed with Savannah State. Really? Of all the FCS teams? Why
not Furman? (that's sort of tongue in cheek, but why not?) Why a FCS team
in November at all? Why a FCS team at all? If you want to be taken seriously
then play only the FBS teams and then you can chide the SEC for not doing the
same, oh, and other conferences. To be the best, you have to play the best, not
@ S Sherwood:Check the schedules of all the nationally ranked
big-boys. Almost all of them have multiple games each year that many fans accept
as gimme games. It allows the smaller teams to make some money for their sport
programs and allows the big schools to experiment and fix problems they've
found up to that point of their season. For those reasons, it's usually
considered win-win to play perhaps 2 of 12 games like that a year. Almost
everyone does. So why pick on just BYU? Not fair.Utah always had
multiple such games in their schedule before joining their current conference
and now not having as much opportunity to do so. Nevertheless, they schedule
their Weber State games whenever they can. It was that Weber State win last
month that might end up allowing them to qualify for a bowl game this year... if
they get very lucky the rest of the year. And if they do, they'll have
Weber State to thank for it. Please do a bit more homework before
forming an opinion that makes you seem to be uninformed.
Tators:"... if they get very lucky the rest of the year. And if they
do, they'll have Weber State to thank for it".I'm a
BYU fan but I'm going to say this before any of the ute trolls say it. Your
logic here is flawed. They could thank BYU for it just as much...or USU for that
matter. BYU gave the utes a W which counts every bit as much toward bowl
eligibility as a W against Weber. I understand what you're
getting at, but I'm also not a fan of playing an FCS team, especially in
2014 when schedule strength matters. BYU doesn't play in the PAC12 or the
SEC so they can't schedule patsies and get away with it. That
said, the reason BYU had to do it was that Southern Miss is no longer on the
schedule, and scheduling an FBS team on such short notice is nigh unto
impossible. Holmoe did the only thing he could do, schedule an FCS team who
needs the cash. That doesn't mean we have to like it, and it certainly
doesn't help BYUs cause.
WACPadding:"The Idahos, Idaho Sts, and New Mexico Sts of the world

schedule? Please be informed, your ignorance is showing. BYU may have played
