Striker, just checking, but are you implying that this year's BYU team, that managed a whole 13 points against Utah at home, would have beaten UCLA?

Nothing more pathetic than BYU fan trying to rationalize some way that their team is somehow better than Utah. Your team got hammered at home in the head-to-head matchup with the Utes THIS year. Sound familiar? It should. For all of the useless stats, numbers, rankings, etc. that you keep throwing out, you still know deep in your hearts that Utah is flat out better than BYU right now, and has been for the last several years. Sure BYU was better 20-30 years ago. My family had season tickets at Cougar Stadium and I saw up close the Y's dominance. Them days is long past. Scoreboard! Who's your Daddy now?

I rarely ever look at ute blogs because I don't care, but this is an intriguing matchup and wanted to see what people were saying. First, I'm amazed, but not surprised, at the infatuation u fans have with BYU. I started to count how many references were made to BYU and stopped at 25 because those were too many, and most talking about BYU on their own. That is really pathetic and u fans are so obsessed with BYU it's hilarious!

    PAC Arrogance
"Others man up and embrace playing Oregon, UCLA, ASU, Stanford, Michigan. You think byu or usu would have had as close of a game against UCLA?"

BYU played UCLA and had a 2/3 winning record in one year, including a 59-0 LA-is-burning-down destruction of UCLA. Utah couldn't even beat them. BYU also in recent past annihilated Oregon and Oregon State. Don't sit here and say BYU could never compete. They have a series with Arizona, USC, and just announced today, Stanford.

It will be a long time before I read these ute blogs because it reeks of 110% arrogance. Good grief to these unfathomable, arrogant, illogical comments.

"But we have one on the road in bowl game, AP #4 Bama."

Actually based on utah "fan" standards that is false. alabama finished 6th in the final rankings and according to utah "fans" the final rankings are the only ones that matter. otherwise BYU gets credit for beating #3 pitt, #1 miami, #2 oklahoma, #5 KSU, etc.

if not utah gets no credit for beating a top 5 team because they never have beaten a top 5 team based on utah "fan" standards. Funny how hypocrisy tends to be exposed.

If we are forgoing "all the stats and figures from years gone past" then why are we supposed to discuss "the year before? the year before? the year before?"?

Oh because discussing those "years gone past" are what you think benefits your argument while discusssing the "years gone past" that BYU won doesn't help you at all. Typical utah "fan" hypocrite.

It's interesting that you correctly stated that "Miami did not finish the 1990 season ranked #1". (The defending NC Hurricanes finished #3 in 1990.)

But you chose to conveniently overlook the fact that Alabama did not finish the 2008 season ranked #4. (The Crimson Tide finished #6 in 2008.)

btw, if BYU playing a big five conference team on the road is like playing a D2 team, doesn't that make Utah finishing their season every year playing Colorado like adopting a D2 team as Utah's new "rival"?

The Buffs were 5-21 in 2011 and 2012; Virginia was 12-13 in 2011 and 2012, including wins versus then #12 Ga Tech (same team Utah barely beat in the Sun Bowl) and versus then #25 Florida St.

The crimson-colored bubble that Utah fans constantly live in is hilarious.

No. Has BYU traveled to play a real team besides Keeton-less Utah State?

No, Virginia does not count. That's like playing a D2 team on the road.

That little brother mentality really comes through strong when, even in an article that has nothing to do with BYU, you just cant help trying talk smack about BYU. And your smack is WEAK! You emphasize the weakest teams on BYU's schedule while emphasizing the strongest on Utah's schedule, conveniently forgetting to mention the Weber State and Colorado (one of worst D1 teams in nation) games on your schedule, while overlooking the Texas, Wisconsin, Boise State and Notre Dame games on BYU's schedule. Only somebody whose name references their conference pride, rather than their TEAM pride could have that much insecurity in their own team. Good luck making it to a bowl game... AGAIN!

That is some spin and you call BYU fans delusional!!! You have a lot of If's in your first post but the fact is you lost!!! Plain and simple, just like BYU lost to Utah!!! Both games were decided by the same point differential and both losing teams had the ball and had good drives stopped by interceptions that sealed the games for the winning teams!!! BYU has moved on from their loss and Utah needs to do the same!!! I think Stanford has too many weapons for the Utes to win but I also think it will depend on turnovers!!! If Utah can win or be close in the turn over battle they will be close and maybe even upset Stanford!!!

    Go BYU!!!

    Why?

Who won the head-to-head, on the field, between Alabama and Texas A&M last season?
    Who won the national championship?

When you can honestly answer, without any spin, why Alabama won the 2012 national championship, instead of Texas A&M, then, you'll have your answer why one game does not a season make, especially when 14 of the last 17 games have been decided by a touchdown or less in the closing minutes or in overtime.

You all realize that unless you are a coach, AD, booster or player, you as a fan have NOTHING to do with "your" team's success and failure don't you? I love trash talk from fans. They all act like they actually have something to do with the success of their team and the failure of the other. I love BYU more than anything--except maybe Batman, but I never talk trash to other fans because it's pointless.

It's easy saying how good "your" team is or how bad "their" team is when you watch comfortably from the stands or your couch.

Others man up and embrace playing Oregon, UCLA, ASU, Stanford, Michigan. And the gap between them and us is narrower than ever(see barely losing to UCLA)."

You know as well as I know that if BYU could schedule the likes of Oregon, UCLA, ASU, Stanford, Michigan, etc, they would. I doubt very highly that Utah could schedule them either if they were in an independent status as BYU. Please enjoy and embrace your good fortune of being in a great conference and stop the condescending attitude. No matter how much you love to pound your chest and flaunt your status as a member of a conference of champions, until you actually start winning, it's nothing but empty rhetoric.

I want Utah to do well and be wildly successful in their conference. I've said that in several posts before. Unlike some of my fellow Cougar fans, I believe the Utes are on the verge of breaking out. If that happens, I'll be very proud of them. Moral victories is nothing to brag about.

Very excited for this game. While disappointing both the UCLA and Oregon State games were extremely entertaining. I think the Utes do have a chance to win this game but it will take both sides of the ball playing to their potential all 4 quarters which we haven't really seen this year. Hopefully that changes this week and Utah walks off the field Saturday with a signature conference win. I still think win or lose Utah can be bowl eligible but with a loss it'll become much more difficult. Good luck this week Utah

    @ Pac 12 Pride:

Another negative Ute's very selective memory... Before disparaging Idaho State in BYU's schedule, you should remember the Weber State in your own. It's hypocritical not to. What goes around comes around.

And yes, I do think both USU and BYU could've played UCLA close... especially on their home fields the way Utah had it. USU already almost beat USC on the road. And BYU's worst loss this year was by only a couple of points that went to the wire. So, yes... there's no doubt they would've.

Pac 12 Pride, I love that you are more than willing to call out BYU on the likes of Idaho and Middle Tennessee, but forget to mention Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Texas (even if their year isn't top ten). Even you guys schedule the Weber States, Northern Colorados, and Montana States. Your double standard is amazing. And before you even try, several Pac12 schools aren't much different than Nevada, Boise State, or Houston.

Yes the two home losses with a heap of tough PAC 12 games on the road where hard to take. The Utes coulda shoulda woulda in those contests, but they are playing much better and growing as a team. The Utes won't compete for the PAC 12 South but we shouldn't be to down about it with all the great match ups to come. Plus the Utes will play hard and take pride in trying to have a winning season and bowl appearance. I love this schedule. The Stanford game is another chance to test the metal. It beats whooping up on patsies.

Let's get stoked about going up against the Cardinal this week. We need the offense and defense to play well in the same game now. The offense had huge stats and points in the Beaver game with the defense porous. Then the defense was really solid on UCLA with Wilson having a down game that will happen with a young QB.

I like the Utes talent but they are inexperienced. I like the way they are developing and they are a year off from pulling out those close contests against the better teams.

The rest of us know you already played your bowl game a couple of weeks ago. I'm comfortable admitting the emotion of the game seems to mess with my team, and your team seems to play out of their minds against BYU (give Coach Whit his due for that one).

I've said it before and I'll say it all season long, my team's season comes down to more than one game. Prepare yourselves for at least 3-4 more straight losses, and have fun watching that inferior team down south playing in December since you won't be. Regardless of your illustrious conference affiliation, I think most sensible folks will admit any bowl game is better than none.

The Utes played a great game against UCLA and came up just short with 6 INT's. With that said, after being at the game and watching UCLA up close, I think they were a bit overrated. Let me take this opportunity to say how glad I am we don't have home and homes with teams like Idaho, Colorado state, Wyoming, New Mexico, middle Tennessee. I have been a season ticket holder for 7 years and the home games the last 3 years have been incredible. This program is headed in the right direction. Teams that brag about "being a big fish in a small pond" as better than being in a big time conference is accepting mediocrity as the ceiling. And usually it's just pure jealousy. We are just a few plays away from winning all these big time games, and that time is not far away.

Don't blink, it may happen Saturday. And we'll never look back once it happens. I think we will end this season .500 in conference games, and for being in the second toughest conference in the country is a major accomplishment. I have all the faith in the world in our coaches. They are doing a great job.

HUGE opportunity this week for the Utes. As frustrating as the loss to ucla was, I left the game pumped about our chances against Stanford. Anyone who thinks this game will be a blowout is clueless, and jealous of our program. I can see a big special teams play being the difference in who wins. Or possibly a trick play, which Whit has a great track record with. I think we are going to shock the country and PROVE we are a force to be reckoned with in the conference. I like our chances just like I did against ucla. To think that if Wilson only threw 5 picks we would have beaten ucla gives me a ton of hope against Stanford. I don't think Stanford is much better than ucla, and heck, if Wilson only throws 1-2 picks we beat ucla by 10-14 points.

Some of the picks were tipped which I don't blame on Wilson. I couldn't be happier with this offense. In such a short time erickson has worked wonders with this offense

The future is very bright for the PAC 12 university of Utah utes.

Things I said since beginning of year:

1 we would split with Stanford and Oregon
    2 we should beat byu(done)
    3 we would bet usu(done)
4 Utah ucla winner would win PAC 12 south(we were VERY close)
