I like our chances just like I did against ucla. To think that if Wilson only threw 5 picks we would have beaten ucla gives me a ton of hope against Stanford. I don't think Stanford is much better than ucla, and heck, if Wilson only throws 1-2 picks we beat ucla by 10-14 points.

Some of the picks were tipped which I don't blame on Wilson. I couldn't be happier with this offense. In such a short time erickson has worked wonders with this offense

The future is very bright for the PAC 12 university of Utah utes.

Things I said since beginning of year:

1 we would split with Stanford and Oregon
2 we should beat byu(done)
3 we would bet usu(done)
4 Utah ucla winner would win PAC 12 south(we were VERY close)

Utah 32
Stanford 27

Any top 5 undefeated teams been in Provo or Logan lately? And I don't mean chess teams. Struggling in the PAC 12 is vastly better than playing nobodies in a nobody conference where nobody cares. And we knew since day 1 it would take a few years to get up to speed in the conference. And after the ucla game it's safe to say we can play with just about anyone in the country. It's going to be a long week waiting for this game. Win the turnover margin and we can win this game.

Go utes!

HUGE opportunity this week for the Utes. As frustrating as the loss to ucla was, I left the game pumped about our chances against Stanford. Anyone who thinks this game will be a blowout is clueless, and jealous of our program. I can see a big special teams play being the difference in who wins. Or possibly a trick play, which Whit has a great track record with. I think we are going to shock the country and PROVE we are a force to be reckoned with in the conference. Skiing kicker for the game winning field goal as time expires!

Sandy, UT

Let me take this opportunity to say how glad I am we don't have home and homes with teams like Idaho, Colorado state, Wyoming, New Mexico, middle Tennessee. I have been a season ticket holder for 7 years and the home games the last 3 years have been incredible. This program is headed in the right direction. Teams that brag about "being a big fish in a small pond" as better than being in a big time conference is accepting mediocrity as the ceiling. And usually it's just pure jealousy. We are just a few plays away from winning all these big time games, and that time is not far away.

Don't blink, it may happen Saturday. And we'll never look back once it happens. I think we will end this season .500 in conference games, and for being in the second toughest conference in the country is a major accomplishment. I have all the faith in the world in our coaches. They are doing a great job.

Stanford is certainly beatable, Washington proved that Saturday night. Utes need to play there best game on both sides of the ball to have a chance.

I think this one will be close as wee. I love moral victories. That is how to build a program.
The cardinal by 20. My Ducks by 45.

We are awsome now because we were invited to the pac10 and that means we will win Stanford by 33 for sure.

PAC 12 arrogance

"Any top 5 undefeated teams been in Provo or Logan lately?"

The only three Top 5, undefeated teams to visit RES didn't well for the Utes:

1984 lost to BYU 24-14
1990 lost to BYU 45-20
2010 lost to TCU 47-7

The Utes played a great game against UCLA and came up just short with 6 INT's. With that said, after being at the game and watching UCLA up close, I think they were a bit overrated. A true top 15 team would have put the Utes away much earlier. I hope the Utes put together a complete effort and give the Cardinal a run for the money, but I doubt a win will happen.

Lindon, UT

Stanford wins 49-14. This won't even be close. Lets the PAC12 beatings continue. Unlucky scheduling has the Utes on the road against Arizona and WSU. Both possible wins if at home but likely losses on the road. Look forward to Colorado in "The Battle for the Basement" the last and only real opportunity for a win. 4-8 this year, 3-9 next year and looking for a new AD and Head Football Coach. Love that PAC 12 membership.

So BYU hasn't beaten a top 5 team at home in over 20 years? Great info but not suprising thanks

Of course Washington is beatable they lost Saturday night. Great in sight! You are quite the authority.

The rest of us know you already played your bowl game a couple of weeks ago. I'm comfortable admitting the emotion of the game seems to mess with my team, and your team seems to play out of their minds against BYU (give Coach Whit his due for that one).

I've said it before and I'll say it all season long, my team's season comes down to more than one game. Prepare yourselves for at least 3-4 more straight losses, and have fun watching that inferior team down south playing in December since you won't be. Regardless of your illustrious conference affiliation, I think most sensible folks will admit any bowl game is better than none.

Best of luck to ya though

Utah hasn't beaten a Top 5 team at home... EVER!

West Jordan, Utah

Yes the two home losses with a heap of tough PAC 12 games on the road where hard to take. The Utes coulda shoulda woulda in those contests, but they are playing much better and growing as a team. The Utes won't compete for the PAC 12 South but we shouldn't be to down about it with all the great match ups to come. Plus the Utes will play hard and take pride in trying to have a winning season and bowl appearance. I love this schedule. The Stanford game is another chance to test the metal. It beats whooping up on patsies.

Let's get stoked about going up against the Cardinal this week. We need the offense and defense to play well in the same game now. The offense had huge stats and points in the Beaver game with the defense porous. Then the defense was really solid on UCLA with Wilson having a down game that will happen with a young QB.

I like the Utes talent but they are inexperienced. I like the way they are developing and they are a year off from pulling out those close contests against the better teams.

Springville, UT

I'm guessing Whit's new compliment for his team over the next few weeks will follow something along the lines of 'mental toughness'.

Some teams are happy to beat up on the likes of Idaho, Middle Tennessee, Nevada.

Others man up and embrace playing Oregon, UCLA, ASU, Stanford, Michigan. And the gap between them and us is narrower than ever(see barely losing to UCLA).

You think byu or usu would have had as close of a game against UCLA?

Utah > usu > byu
Salt Lake, UT

I can't wait to see the look on byu fans faces when mighty Utah takes down one of the best teams in the nation. Ducky, Sammgy, and the rest will go into hiding.

"So you're telling me there's a chance...yeah!!"

Btw, must be nice to have so many home games to start the year. Has the U even traveled to play anyone besides going to Provo?

Bloomington, IN

If Utah takes down the Ducks, I'll be one of the first ones on here to congratulate...just doubt it's gonna happen.

Pac 12 Pride, I love that you are more than willing to call out BYU on the likes of Idaho and Middle Tennessee, but forget to mention Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Texas (even if their year isn't top ten). Even you guys schedule the Weber States, Northern Colorados, and Montana States. Your double standard is amazing. And before you even try, several Pac12 schools aren't much different than Nevada, Boise State, or Houston.

Have fun watching BYU play in December!

Hyrum, UT

@ Pac 12 Pride:

Another negative Ute's very selective memory... Before disparaging Idaho State in BYU's schedule, you should remember the Weber State in your own. It's hypocritical not to. What goes around comes around.

And yes, I do think both USU and BYU could've played UCLA close... especially on their home fields the way Utah had it. USU already almost beat USC on the road. And BYU's worst loss this year was by only a couple of points that went to the wire. So, yes... there's no doubt they would've.
