Was this before or after voting to strip funding from food stamps? How much can the GOP abuse the working poor before they realize its the reason they continue to lose elections?

I would ask, is there still a "middle class," and is the middle class Pres. Obama wants to save, is that a class he has redefined as a "totally dependent upon government for everything class?" Politics as usual, with a split Congress, only continues to allow Socialists to wreck havoc on us all.

"Defunding and repealing Obamacare, they said, is the first step in fixing the health care system in ways that enhance personal freedom and reduce the role of government."

Yes. Let's fix it by going back to the way it was before. When you had the "personal freedom" to get sick and go bankrupt and the role of government was to sit by and watch your life be ruined, if you didn't die in the process. What a joke.

Good heavens, Chaffetz is such a stooge.

I'm all for helping those who can't afford health care insurance, but this isn't what ObamaCare was all about. It's about power and control under the guise of 'care' and 'concern' and 'affordability'. It's hard to believe that so many people are naive to what is going on in Washington. Perhaps they aren't naive at all. Those are the ones that are most dangerous. Stupidity can sometimes be educated out of it, but not so for someone that wants control. Quite odd that even in 'Zion' we have those who don't believe in the scripture that says "We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion." That means if you voted for almost every one of our politicians now in office, you voted for corruption and those who have immediately exercised unrighteous dominion. "Mirror, mirror on the wall...." Naive or not, you have no excuses.

What a waste of government money these representatives are! Can we vote to impeach them please!

Good ol Matheson. He supported the bill before he voted against the bill. But only because he was trying to do the right thing. In his own words he didn't want all of the extra things added. Yet no problem with the additions and the pork when the democrats had control of the house and senate. Which gave birth to the ugly child obummercare.

"...only continues to allow Socialists to wreck havoc on us all." There is only one socialist in the congress - Senator Bernie Sanders. So, what exactly are you talking about?

Defunding it doesn't stop Obamacare from being law, it does stop the subsidies from going to the poor, middle class, and businesses to help pay for health insurance. So yeah, if you want to sabotage the bill by making people unnecessarily suffer you could defund it as a strategy for that... seems rather disgusting though. Just vote for repeal of Obamacare or actually come up with a viable alternative and vote for that. Or maybe, just maybe... you could actually vote on bills to alter provisions in Obamacare to make the system work better (like how Democrats who opposed Bush's Medicare Part D expansion ended up working on measures to improve it afterwards).

Glad our Utah Congressmen are not the dispositive deciders.Utah has remained radical right for far too long.

Chaffetz should become a kicking coach for a local junior high team.

This is the "line in the sand" people! Americans are trying to buy affordable health insurance - that is something which we simply cannot allow!

get serious. This does not do away with Food Stamps, but is only to eliminate the 10% which is still only a part of unneeded or fraudulent usage. Under Obama, the program has doubled and has vastly increased the dependent society

Cutting the funding for the poor would be acceptable from Congress under three conditions:

Permanently set congressional salaries and 110% or 120% of the US Median Income.

And

Change the law so that the government funded retirement program for Congressmen is Social Security only.

And

Change the law so that the government funded health insurance for serving and retired Congressmen is Medicare only.

The people we are sending to Washington on multi-million dollar campaigns just have no concept about what real life is like. They fiddle while Rome burns and say, "Let them eat cake."

It just shows how out of touch they are and how much they pander to the insurance industry....disgusting.

I wish I lived in Chaffetz district so I could vote against him. As a life long Republican, I would gladly vote for a Green Party, a Democrat, a dead body in a coffin, if they were running against him.

I am embarrassed that he is from Utah.

Did all our esteemed leaders give up their tax payer funded health care?..............did not think so!

You cannot claim to be a Christian and vote against food stamps or healthcare for the poor. You can smooze it anyway you want but God knows.

If it's a choice between Obamacare and shutdown, I choose shutdown. The Republicans in the House have the votes to stand up to Obama's socialist dream. They should do so.
