When looking at the utes defensive stats, you have to factor in playing against WeberState. That will seriously pad anyone's stats!

Cougars are favored by 7. All the experts have BYU winning this one. Hill will deliver it to Hoffman and Apo in between lighting you up with his legs for 150 or more. Then there's Williams, Lasike and Alisa - will be a long night for conference of champions. Oh, wait - don't forget Van Noy and company.

I bet Hill, Williams, Van Noy and PoVoy each get like 150 yards rushing. Plus passing and its a long night.

While Weber State certainly did pad Utah's stats, that's nothing compared to the padding they got by playing a close game against Oregon State (a team that had previously lost at home to a Division 2 team). Keeping your starters in the whole game against such horrible competition is how you really pad stats.

BYU should have taken advantage of padding their stats against an ACC bottom dweller couple weeks ago. But they failed! No worries though! BYU has a division 2 team (Idaho State) in November to help pad their stats. They have a few more cupcakes as well like: Middle Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Houston, and Nevada. Gotta love having almost half your schedule against cupcakes to help you become bowl eligible.

If Oregon State is horrible then what is Texas and Virginia?

Sagarin Rankings:

Oregon State 41
Texas 43
Virginia 62

@crimson - U are calling GT a cupcake? This is the team that pummeled USC to finish off last season. They are 2 - 0 and looking better this year than last year. Houston is 2-0 and in 1st place in their conference and looking a lot better than Oregon St, Washington St, or Colorado. Virginia is not a bottom dweller in the ACC - U may want to check the standings. Stick with the facts.

Tom,

Wasn't byu favored two years ago?

That worked out well huh?

54-10 beatdown!

I can't wait for the drivel to stop and actually see the game played. Only after then will all these ridiculous nonsense predictions from both sides be settled. May the better team win!

Go Cougars! Good luck Utes too after this Saturday!

How many times did Utah win when BYU was favored?

Kalani Sitake, you shouldn't worry about BYU's up-tempo offense. Kyle said 90% of the teams who used them (After week 1) lost. I want to say BYU will win, but I have been wrong last 3 years. This should be a very good game.

Throw, throw, throw.

BYU is typically not very good at the corner position(See any byu corners playing on Sundays?).

And that is true with their first string.

But now with second and third string guys in the secondary?

Wilson is going to put up great numbers and lead Utah to yet another victory

usu has as good of a defense as byu and we beat them.

And byu's offense is not nearly as good as usu's.

Utah by 1, 10, 44, whatever.

At the end of the day the scoreboard will have more points for Utah than byu

The only question is what will the margin be and what will the byu fans excuses be?

Rain?
Refs?
You gave us the turnovers?

Toss the predictions. Looking forward to a great game.

Stopping Jamaal is the key. He's their best offensive player by far. If Bronco keeps rushing him for 30+ carries a game, he wont last half the season. If they loose him they wont win 3 games this season.

@ Uteology:

One more thing you forget to mention involving the current Sagarin Rankings...
Texas (43) is still ranked better than Utah (47). I would think you would consequently feel that Texas must be pretty good. BYU (33) is ranked better than either.

@ Chris B:

Las Vegas oddmakers are multiple times more accurate than you with their predictions. And they have BYU picked by 7 this Saturday. I can agree with that... as will most people.

When you look at BYU stats, you have to factor in that they played Virginia. After all, Oregon put up a 59 spot on that team. Oh, wait a minute, BYU lost to Virginia. That seems to be the forgotten game; go figure.

Stat's won't mean squat. If Utah can contain the QB keeper, which Texas couldn't, they will be fine. A one dimensional QB is a problem. Utah is the best team that BYU will have face so far. Texas will end up losing 6+ games this year.

The U defense wins this battle. Hill can't throw the ball with much accuracy and opts to run for the most part. This makes for an easy task for the U defense. Just play tight man defense and force Hill into running. I suspect Anae will have to do something to keep the U defense honest in this game and such as throwing to the tight ends more and backs out of the backfield. The wide receivers are going to be blanket covered for the most part. You might see more bootleg type plays for Hill getting him out of the pocket and letting receivers find open spots. As for the U - their QB is good. He throws well and he runs well and the Y defense is going to have to put lots of pressure on him forcing him into some some quick throws hoping he will throw to the blue jersey's instead of red. I see the U having the advantage in this game and they always play well in Provo.

@ Spokane Ute:

A key item that you and other trolls are either totally nieve about (that would be a first) or have purposely chosen to ignore concerning your Virginia comparisons... Many, if not most of Virginia's key players did not play in their subsequent game with Oregon. Part of reason was because of injuries and part of it was because of coaching decisions. They had already written off that game. As such, you are actually comparing apples and oranges.

And as most knowledgeable football pundits acknowledge... most of the change and improvement in any football team comes after their first game. I'm certain that Utah's coaches are putting much emphasis on what BYU did to Texas than what happened in Virginia... as well they should. You, on the other hand, are now putting too much emphasis on something now irrelevant. But nice try.

If you continue to put too much weight and emphasis on the Virginia scenario, you are going to be blindsided and sorely disappointed come Saturday. There is a reason literally all the betting world has BYU picked as the favorite in their game with Utah. Las Vegas has picked BYU by 7.

All I hope is for civility both on and off the field come this saturday. May the best team when and may there be no excuses. I also hope goog sportmanship from the fans, players and especially coaches exist at it conclusion. Lastly, may everyone remain healthy and play their hearts out for their school, fans, family, coaches and themselves. Leave it all on the field.

Go UTES!

Not sure why you use the word "troll" when someone voices a differing opinion? That's weak sauce. Any way, the Virginia game can not be swept under the rug no matter how you spin it. A bad loss, is just that; no way to sugar coat it. As far as that game being "irrealavent"; I strongly disagree. One win can mean the difference between a bowl and no bowl, or what tier bowl you play in. It absolutly plays into the rankings; don't kid your self. As far as the point spread goes, I'd love to shake your hand, and wager on the game; however, that's not possible. I see Utah winning it, and as I BYU fan, you think otherwise. Fair enough. I guess we wiil see come Saturday night; 7 points is a HUGE spread. IMHO Gotta run, we will talk another time; have a good day and GO UTES!
