From a devout Mormon, i ask us all to please stop playing the victim card. If no offense was intended, you would be a fool to take offense. If offense was intended, you would be an even bigger fool to take offense. I'm paraphrasing but I think you've all heard that in conference. There is no reason not to believe Jake Murphy's explanation. He's always acted honorably to my knowledge. And I truly doubt these players intended to insult the religion of their coach, their team leader (Reilly), and many of their teammates.

We as Mormons could do more good if we try to assume the best from others, be less cynical, and less quick to take offense. When you react with anger and vitriol, you suggest to the world that we only believe in showing love to those who love us. That wasn't Christ's law, was it?

Congrats... Best 'to the point' comment of the day.

Several surprises as to who is defending this boorish behavior.

Coach Whit covering for this... yeah right.

"how many religions in Utah baptize by immersion? the intention was to mock the LDS church and show disrespect."

blue&white:

Actually, quite a few. I believe they include Baptists, 7th Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witness, Pentacostals, Assembly of God, Greek Orthodox and Church of Christ, to name a few. Other faiths, including Lutherans, Methodists, Catholics and Presbyterians, accept several forms of baptism, including immersion.

LDS Utes don't feel mocked. So leave it to the y "fans" to act like they are singled out.

Another Utah fan living in denial. The video is clearly a mock baptism. Whether it was aimed at a specific religion is difficult to prove, but not all LDS Utes agree with your denial that it wasn't offensive to LDS members.

byu fans honestly feel that Utah fans are not "worthy" enough to walk the same ground that they do. I am done with this rivalry. Have fun in independence.

"There was absolutely no malice or disrespect intended towards any particular religion or rite," Whittingham said.

If you buy this, I have a bridge that crosses over Utah Lake, I'm willing to sell for a measly $5,000, contact me at blowingsmoke.com

jbohn,

Only in the eyes of the byu "fans" is it a "holy war". There have been years(2004) when Utah actually had more RM's than byu on the team. A 2 year break will be nice for us Mormon Ute fans. The jealous insults will continue but at least we won't have to deal with the better than thou insinuations.

Go Utes! Beat byu in their biggest game in 4 years.
Go Utes! Beat UCLA and win the PAC12 South.

Tators,

Give me a break! You're only offended by this video, because you want to be. It had nothing to do with religion. I am constantly amazed at the BYU fans who make this rivalry about religion when it should be about football. It is because of BYU fans like you that I proudly call myself Mormon Ute to make sure you know there are LDS Church members in good standing who support the flagship university of this great state. People like you are doing a great job of taking the fun out of sports in general and rivalries in particular.

From the picture alone it does look incriminating for sure. However if you see the whole video on youtube it really is what Jake Murphy described. When my children did they same thing in Idaho the water looked the same as it does in this video and the temperature was below 40 degrees.

If in my opinion - based on evidence - this really was what some claim it to be I would be the first to condemn it as would my friends who are U alumni whether they are LDS or not.

Only a crimson-goggles wearing Utah fan would be so blinded by his personal biases as to claim that the video had "nothing to do with religion".

Anybody with eyes to see can see clearly that it was a mock baptism.

BYU fans aren't the ones who produced and distributed the embarrassing video with obvious religious overtones.

The reality is, very few BYU fans are actually offended by the video. They're just laughing at the Utes for once again embarrassing themselves.

I cant wait til we no longer play this team, with the most persected fans on earth. When the church drops athletics at the y because the fans are a detriment to there misionary goals.

I'm just tired of all the BYU and Utah fans who have this deep seeded hatred in their harts just waiting for something to happen to confirm that it's justified so they can let it out.

We shouldn't even have that hatred in our hearts. We should let it go (for real, not just cover it up). We also shouldn't judge people (which seems to be the full time occupation of some who want to analyze the images and the comments to death to see if they can justify their anger).

This was a stupid thing to do (regardless of what school they go to). And understanding that NEITHER side is perfect... can we just drop it and move on to something more important in life?

This was made when the practice facility first opened. kids messing around with no intent to bother anybody. The creapy and unethical thing here is the y fan who sat home on his computer looking at all the Utah players facebook pages til they could come up with something to be offended at.

Did you see the video? Did you see the laughing players sitting around the ice-pool? Did you see the hand gestures in the video?

Educate yourself.

You don't need to be offended if you choose not to, but it's sad to condone disrespectful, inappropriate behavior because of what color jersey they wear on Saturday.

You can't be offended when college kids act like college kids, but you can and should correct the behavior, rather than being an apologist.

Kyle should know better.

Guaranteed, during the two-year hiatus in 2014 and 2015, there will be more comments from Utah fans about BYU than there will be about all of the teams on Utah's schedule COMBINED!

BYU wasn't the program who created and posted the video. Stop blaming BYU fans for simply reacting to it.

NOTHING is as embarrassing as being SHUTOUT 0-27 by a 10-loss team.

NOTHING is as embarrassing as being dominated at home by a 10-loss team that hadn't won a road game in FOUR years.

The baptism video is just the latest example.

When it comes to embarrassing themselves, the Utes are at the head of the class.
