@ Lifelong Ute - Salt Lake City, UT - "The reason this one gets so much talk is that it's one of a relatively few byu wins in the former rivalry...."

    "Relatively few" wins?

Better go take a walk back through history, amigo.

Enjoying this message board - lots of good thoughts both ways.

The one thing that sticks out in my mind is Max Hall (the most hated Coug) had 2 of the best wins vs. the Utes and he earned a "10" in my books with the way he did it. Embarrassed the Utes defense (and truth be told, Coach Whit in the process)in the first win when he was a soph, then tore the Utes hearts out with perfect execution in OT his senior year. Here's hoping for another classic game Sat. night with KVN and the Cougs getting a measure of payback to end the "mini-streak".

Cincinnatus, no one is disputing the win/loss record. We are disputing "Utah is better than BYU" when the results look like coin flips. In 2004 and 2008, no one questions that Utah was better. In 2011, I have to concede it too. Other than that, they have been equal teams, including "Harline is still open", "4th and 18", and "George is still running".

I'll say the same for BYU and USU. BYU has been lucky and come out on top in the past two years.

    That play makes me emotional.

If Jim McMahon to Clay Brown in the 1980 Holiday Bowl isn't your vote, you were obviously born after 1980. That play was amazing but what it did for BYU for years to come is unmeasureable.

Re: "ASU and Oregon about to put 70 on Utah this season."

I always get a kick out of BYU fans having to resort to wins or beat-downs by teams not named BYU when talking smack.

Most of the 'plays' in the poll weren't designed plays. The best 'play' on that list was the Steve Young halfback pass, executed flawlessly.

It was a great play. I have always been frustrated with Whit for not blitzing more and pressuring the quarterback on obvious pass plays. Props to byu's O-line for protecting beck and props to beck for avoiding the rusher. This is what the byu fans hang their hat on. No doubt you can visit legacy hall and watch that video over and over. We already know that 8 of 11 and 3 in a row doesn't matter because they have a bigger stadium. Go Utes.

    One more to add...
    Whittingham/Mendenhall era:
    5 - 3

    After this weekend: 5-4

    Go COUGS!!!

The season-ending results are the real story.

Bronco has finished with a better record and higher ranking during 5 of the 8 seasons during the Bronco/Kyle era.

Utah has won the recent individual-game battles, but BYU has won the season-long wars.

Sorry skywalker, but your logic doesn't work.

Same goes for BYU's wins, so take of the blue colored sunglasses.

Besides, the win/loss column doesn't ask, "How much did you win by?" Does it?

A win is a win, a loss is a loss.

    You forgot

13 of the last 16 have been decided by a touchdown or less in the closing minutes or in overtime and the worm always turns; the Utes can't count on the majority of lucky bounces going their way forever.

Your "trend" is nothing but a crimson-colored illusion.

Beck-to-Harline is THE BEST single play in the history of the BYU-Utah rivalry made even more special for my son and I because we were standing in the middle of the Crimson Club dressed in BYU Blue... the crowd was in a frenzy and the noise deafening until Max floated that pass in the direction of Harline, then... dead silence... except for four solitary figures screaming in the heart of the Crimson Club.

Best play in the history of BYU is still Jim McMahon's hail Mary pass to Clay Brown, which I also witnessed from high above the field directly behind the end zone where Brown caught the pass surrounded by three SMU defenders.

Time to bring a little of that magic back to LES this Saturday.

@LifelongUte obviously you weren't around when BYU put 70 on the Utes! Utes only put 54. Is that all? ASU and Oregon about to put 70 on Utah this season.

    May it ever be so.
    And beat the U !

Not a very long life time I guess because I remember a lot more great Cougar wins. My favorite is the 70-31 game. We (fans in the stands) laughed and laughed when Utah would score because it just meant BYU could have the ball again and it would be seconds before the Y could graciously give the ball back again after scoring at will. The Y punter took a nap.
Most of the scores in the last twenty years are just close games that could have gone either way so it's a fun rivalry. Thinking your team is special in a one point win when the other team missed a field goal by doinking it off the upright (has happened to both teams) is just silly. Who ever wins is just lucky, nothing more. Utah has just been luckier recently. But luck changes so just enjoy the ride for the time being.

    Lifelong Ute,

I am a Coug Fan, but understand how you feel. That is how I felt during the 70's, 80's, and early to mid 90's about the Coug's dominance over the Y. I remember best the close games, including the miserable "34-31" games. Hope both teams play to the best of their abilities and that no one gets injured. I hope the Y wins and understand that you feel differently. Let's enjoy the game.

Hairline is still open and ute fans will continue to try to change the subject to keep from wondering why he was soooooooooo wide open. I'm kind of surprised that a fan didn't jump out of the stands and try for a pick-six!

This play gives me the chills every time! This game was awesome and I remember the elation of watching it happen! Honestly I would prefer watching the Cougars beat them by more than a couple scores this year, but history says that it will be another close game. We'll need all the good karma we can get after losing Hadley.

The reason this one gets so much talk is that it's one of a relatively few byu wins in the former rivalry. Utah has several more to choose from. I still like 54-10, although our beatdown leading up to our second bcs game was also good. Six straight years with zero byu wins. Being better sure is better
