Thank you, Dennis! Kudos to helping mold Travis Wilson into a more confident PAC-12 passer! Excited for all the good things to come from the both of you.

Most teams would love to have one coach that knows how to build top 5 undefeated teams.

We have TWO.

It's only a matter of time before we're back where we belong.

This year we WILL go 8-4 or 9-3.

And the winner of the Utah/UCLA game WILL win the South division.

Don't call me lucky when it happens, it's happening.

I loved the hire from day 1. Guy has a proven track record. I really think his hire takes us from 5th in the South to 1st or 2nd. Putting up 30 points against a good USU defense?

USU's defense will be as good or better than the average Pac 12 defense.

And our defense is more than capable of handling most Pac 12 offenses, NOW that our offense will be putting up 30+ points a game.

I even think we can split the Oregon/Stanford games, with Stanford more likely. Oregon is still probably a bit too much, but I think we'll surprise Stanford.

Remember when byu fans mocked this hire?

The Pac 12 title is a REAL possibility with Whittingham, Ericson, and Sitake.

Best 3 coaches in the state, all on ONE team.

Go utes!

Why didn't it mention how awesome Anae is? Erickson learned a ton from Anae when they were in Arizona.

Dick, well written article. Keep it up and we may have you converted to the RED side, you know the University where Prophets graduated from.

Dick, I still have hope or you yet.

hmm...I thought Johnson was the quarterback coach. You know him right, beat 'Bama in New Orleans?

Utah did the right thing. They had an offensive coordinator in name only. They hired one that was a professional. I don't think anyone should be surprised that this plan is working well. It is great to see someone who was retired, get to work again using his skills and experience.
Ute fans should keep in mind that this is a short term fix. He won't stay five years. Then Utah will need an offensive coordinator again...a real one. Of course if Erickson is unable to work his magic over the full season, the whole staff may change.

The jury is still out:

* Weber was no test
* PAC 12 refs, and a trick play won it for the utes against the Aggies. Aggies were the better team!

Kitty Lover, you did jog my memory, Johnson was the one that also beat BYU 48-24 2008

Thanks for the memories

Worf, so you're declaring a "Popinga" victory for USU? I'd recommend your team look deep into it's bag of tricks when you play the Aggies. Look hard, you'll see how a real QB plays.

"PAC 12 refs, and a trick play won it for the utes against the Aggies. Aggies were the better team!"

First of all, those were Big 12 refs that officiated the Utah-Utah State game. Yes, those Big 12 officials were horrible because they made bad calls on both teams!

Secondly, the onside kick is not a trick play. It's been apart of football for a long time. Y fans consider that onside kick a trick play because it fooled Utah State's kickoff return team. In football, there is no such thing as a trick play, the objective in football is to try to remain offensive in your play calling, strategy, and game plan. In history, the most famous generals out maneuvered, out flanked, their opposition which resulted in winning the battle. All football is, is a battle for real estate on the grid iron.

Isn't that the point to out smart your opposition?

I thought it was just a y "fan" thing, but It must also be a Texas thing, as worf is right there with Longhorn fans: "The better team never wins."

---------

True. But neither was Virginia, the rain was.

Aggies were the better team until being up 23-14... after that point it was total domination Utah. Overall the game was even and scoreboard says edge Utah.

But hey, don't let facts shape your opinions.

Yeah, the way he handled weber state makes him worth every dollar spent on a second OC.

Stringer Bell--how many times have the Aggies beaten BYU in the passed 5, 10,15, 20 years?

Dennis Erickson has done nothing since Oregon State. CB wants to bash BYU fans for going decades back in history yet he talks about DE's undefeated great Miami teams as if they happened yesterday. BTW Miami had far better athletes than Utah will ever have (many of them through less than honorable means...which is why Erickson left IMO...he was too honorable a guy for the crooked Miami program). Since leaving Oregon State Erickson has underperformed at every stop. I don't see many sundevil fans wishing he were back. I do hope he does well with the utes, but believing he will because of great teams 20 years ago seems a little premature.

Good coach.

Yes. Hiring DE was exactly what the utes needed. He managed to lose to an average team from the tiny town or Corvalis, Oregon. He will be a one-and-done coach.
