9/11 was a defining moment. It was when I realized that all human beings are not what I thought humans were. Some are depraved beyond my old belief system.

We should not be trying to forget it, or minimize it, or make it less a part of our lives. It was a part of our lives.... not something we should be trying to forget or ignore.

Why do we want to remember things like 9/11, Pearl Harbor, wars and other painful events? I find no joy in remembering dead people, dead nations and dead societies. Is there a purpose in the continually bringing these unpleasant memories back to our consciousness?

I sometimes think the reason is to cause us to hate. Sort of like the hate sessions imposed on the people by the government in the book 1984.

Will the survivors of 9/11 know or even care whether I share their grief. What do they want me to do? Who do they want me to kill to avenge the deaths of their loved ones.
