I was right.

Aggie fans were wrong

Where are all my aggie friends who told me I would be wrong?

Where are you guys?

Being a good Pac 12 team is way better than being a good WAC team.

But you'll just have to trust me!

The difference wasn't the onside kick, it was the officiating. Pure and simple. The Utes absolutely didn't earn this victory. It was a insulting gift from the PAC 10 refs.

Well it seems that the aggie trolls has gone. maybe they can't post while they get a taste of the LONG drive back to logan. It was a nail biter for sure with lots of choice words when the utes couldn't seem to contain Keeton despite the entire game plan keying on him. He is a superb dynamic player and hats off to him. However he shows us where we are going to struggle this season as the pac 12 has plenty of QB talent. I was glad that Wilson came out and performed the best he has ever been. Our running game was terrible for the first half and we got stuffed way too many times. However it was a W and I think the monkey is off the utes back. Weber will be a much needed polishing up game. I hope scott comes back soon. Orchard was a BEAST! Reilly was awesome but the D underperformed. Can't wait for the next big test OSU. GO UTES!!

Not to add insult to injury, but there appear to be tough times ahead for USU - just googled their 2013 roster & they lose something like 22 seniors after this 2013 season, three from the O line as well as several of their key defensive players.

Just an observation, not a negative comment -- all teams have to deal with reality.

So next year's USU team will be significantly different. Chuckie is a junior this year, but it remains to be seen how they deal with this huge player departure.

My bet is that several of the sophs & juniors will get some significant playing time as the season progresses, & especially if the competition wanes.

Utah did that with Wilson last year, and his 179 rating this evening says that was a pretty good strategic move.

Sadly apparently we lost Scott for the season tonight, but kudos to Fitzgerald, who showed his Senior merit as a trustworthy possession receiver and valued replacement.

A successful initial game, time to learn from the experience and get ready for Weber State.

Utah is back on a winning track, and hopefully will improve every week.

A gutsy, hard fought win. Thx guys.

Nice comment BigSkies!
However the officiating crew was from the Big 12! What about the missed holding call when Chuck lost his shoe?

USU is a MWC Team, in case you missed that, and a better one than Utah was when they were in that conference. Be careful about throwing stones, Chris B, it's very early in the season to be crowing the way you are. We'll see if Utah goes to a bowl or not this year.....I'm thinking they won't.....but we'll see.

Big Sky, they were Big XII officials (puts the myth to bed that the PAC only takes PAC officials for ALL non-conference games), and games are decided by players making plays. When they play outside the rules of the game, officials have to step in, as they did tonight. Give credit where it's due, don't be disrespectful.

What game did you watch? If you were watching the same game the rest of were watching. The onside kick was the game changing moment in favor of the Utes. Take a look at the game stats. The stats favor the Aggies but not by much. The game could have gone either way. The onside kick turned the momentum of the game and USU never scored after that.

Also, don't act like BYU fans and start blaming the officiating for your loss. There were bad calls on both teams! Utah won because they made more plays or made plays when they needed to. Pure and simple! Utah deserved that hard fought victory! Lastly, those were not Pac-12 officials that called the game. They were Big 12 officials!

Go Utes! 1-0

"Utah will handle usu like the WAC team they are.

Utah 30
usu 17

And it won't really even be that close

Mark it Down!"

Yeah, you we're right.....

Excellent summary, DrUte. This was a wildly entertaining game and as the announcers commented, a great game with which to usher in the FOX Sports Network. Thanks for a great game Utes and Aggies!

Big Skies,

You're right the officials totally gift wrapped the game for Utah. Like the hold in the USU backfield on 3rd and 15 but was never called and the drive resulted in an Aggie score. I see exactly what you mean about poor officiating.

Someone answer this for me. Did the aggies choke? I think they did but someone may disagree.

Big Skies,

Uh yeah, they did.

More than 400 yards of offense begs to differ with you.

Utah has the scoreboard and better special teams. Utah State had the better offence, the better defense, and had more stupid penalties. I know my Aggie can get better. Kudos to the Ute’s they won. Go Utes and Go Aggies!!!!

It wasn't a myth. The pac12 changed its rule about only pac12 officials a year ago under immense pressure from every other conference in college football. The fact is that pac12 refs have been awful for several years and other teams were sick of putting up with their sub par, and homerish, calls.

But that is in the past and this was a big 12 crew and personally I thought they did a decent job. There were some bad calls and no calls both directions and taking the time at the end to get the helmet knocked off call and clock correct was a high point for them. At least they were willing to correct the clock keepers "mistake". Funny how clock issues always seem to benefit home teams, are clock keepers hired by the university?

The defense's were bad by the way. That is not a good sign for either team. Fans better hope it was just first game issues but to me they just looked like they weren't very good.
