Not really. These two programs are vastly different and when you
look at the last few decades, it's absolutely dominated by big brother. Once in a great while usu will have a better season and beat us, but
that hardly makes it a rivalry. Power conference teams don't
have rivalries in their truest sense with wac 2.0 teams. Besides,
almost 100% of utes cheer for usu every other week. Just as we cheer
for weber state and southern Utah as well, usu is no more of a rival than they
are Utah 30Usu 17Mark it down.
The truth is other than the last year or two, I really couldn't care less
whether usu did great or terrible. They are a step below any PAC 12
program and as such I don't even consider them a possibility to be a rival.
Anderson did some great things and they put together a great year
last year. And even if they continue to be a decent mwc(WAC 2.0)
team, no PAC 12 team is rivals with Mwc/WAC teams.USC and ucla
aren't rivals with San Diego state. Same with us and usu.
Let the Ute BCS arrogance flow! It's so appropriate when a WAC
team beat U guys last year!
Bwaha! Hey guys, guys... Hey everyone... Quiet down... Mmkay,
thanks. I just invited you all here to remind you that USU isn't a rival.
Just in case you thought they were, I simply cannot abide it. They're not,
mmkay? This Aggie cares not one whit how Ute fans define, classify,
typify, describe, or otherwise articulate the nature of this game.Bring it on. Little brother is ready.
The Utes beat the WAC 2.0 favorite yet again.
UTAH is setting itself up to fall "Hard Again" The Aggies are dirty,
mean, & nasty, with Experience! and The Aggies have an Attitude! Get ready
for a Dog Fight! Aggies 34 Utes 27
@17-14And that same WAC team beat you guys a couple of years ago as
well. Since then BYU beat them twice, but by a last second fourth down deflected
pass by Reilly Nelson (his one shining moment and miracle), and then a 6-3 score
last year in Provo with a score won in the bottom of the ninth inning (just like
the shootout 7-6 game loss @ Boise State). Utah hadn't lost to
USU in fifteen years, then they lose in overtime on a ridiculous P.I. call on a
Jake Murphy (5 yard push off zone call). Utah was lousy last year, USU had their
best team ever and in Logan won an overtime game. It happens. It better not
happen Thursday or Duke hits the fan.
Utah State by four. No idea on the final score, just the outcome. We don't care if the Ute fans think of us as "rivals" or not,
either way the Utes lose a "heart-breaker" (for them) in their own
stadium on Thursday night.
When the Aggies pound the utes into submission in that glorified high school
stadium in SLC, it will be a rivalry.
We need that barber shop!
I just LOVE it when the little brother beats the snot out of Big Brother....or
the ones who "think" they are the big brother. USU has more talent, more
humility, more guts and more umph that the uties have, have had and will ever
have. The mighty utes will fall and hang their heads and hearts as they walk off
the field. If the truth be known, they just don't want to have a
rivalry right now. If it is BYU or USU and they get creamed, then they look in
the mirror and cry because they get beat by, "to them", a team from an
inferior conference or place. They cannot "pick" a rival because
everyone else already has one and the u doesn't want to be humiliated by
anyone in their pac 10.2 conference when they ask if they can be someones
rivalry and then they get turned down.So let's hear it u
fans....who is your rival?
It seems Aggie fans are brimming with overconfidence. Hopefully not too much so
you do not "fall 'Hard Again'". Coming here and stirring
emotions on this comment board is proof there is life to a long fought rivalry,
even if the overall 77-29-4 Utah record says otherwise. Go Utes!
Good luck to the Aggies after Thursday.
@defibman,"So let's hear it u fans....who is your
rival?"Well, us Cougars, whether they want to admit it or not!
Don't care if we don't play them every year from now on but when we
play, it will always be a rival and that's always very exciting. As for the game on Thursday, I hope the Utes will not make the mistake of
underestimating the Aggies based on their 15 yr stretch of victories. And to
look down on USU as not worthy of being a rival is a sure way to demoralize
their confidence it they got beat once again.May the better team
For saying it's not a rivalry... I've never seen such a desperate cry
for a win than utah players and fans have let out over the past few weeks.
@thebigsamoanBoth thoughts are true. The games will always mean
something and no one should overlook any state team. Go Utes!
@defibman"who is your rival?"BYU. Most Utah fans would
say as much. USU is a rivalry but not as important of one (at least not on
Utah's end and if I understand USU fans correctly, Utah is a secondary
rivalry to them with BYU being their primary one). Turns out having a
self-righteous fanbase is a good way to get both of the other schools in the
state to hate you.
USU @ Utah will be a close game.Utah is well coached, has great
players, and is very motivated to win.Little brother has a new OC,
DC, and former OC who became the Head Coach. Linebackers and WRs coach remained
the same. We also have great players and are motivated to prove last year was
no fluke. This will be a fantastic game. Can't
I remember a time when BYU fans didn't really think much of playing Utah;
winning 16 out of 18 games will do that. The denial from the Ute fans
in these comments is both familiar and entertaining.
"When the Aggies pound the utes into submission in that glorified high
school stadium in SLC, it will be a rivalry."So you're
saying the rivalry will officially start when the Ute fans wake up Friday
gdog3Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was all the ref's fault you lost.Last year, USU ran up nearly 400 yards of total offense, including over
150 yards on the ground against your "NFL caliber" players, had more
penalties and more turnovers, and still beat you.The whining from
Ute fans on Friday morning will be EPIC.
LOL... the utes don't want to call it a rivalry but they are sure up in
arms about it... all over every message boards.I am guessing you
won't see the same when they play weber.Go Aggies!
Cougar fan numero uno here! Utah is for sure our biggest rival. I know those
fane feel the same way. But, if they want to play in the sandbox with another
rival that is ok too. We are developing a pretty super cool rivalry with San
Jose State. Have an awesome day everyone! Go Cougars!
The only time it seems to take on rivalry status is when Utah loses to USU,
which is not that often. Aggies only talk smack when they win a game and Utah
only cares about the Aggies when they want revenge. Not to say the Ags
didn't deserve the win last year, because they did. I may be the only Ute
to admit it, but the push off by Murphy was a good call. That and Kruger
getting the boot doomed us. So congratulations Ags, it was a good win. But, it
was an aberration.Come Friday, the Ags will have gone by the wayside
... again ... and order will be restored to the football world. The Ags can
then take their frustrations out on byU in Logan.Go Utes! Go Ags
Stang08"The Utes beat the WAC 2.0 favorite yet again."Uh, wouldn't that be the Cheerleaders of Girlsie State up in Boise that
are the WAC 2.0 favorite? And, haven't they chewed you up, spit you out,
and made your PAC JV program look just plain silly every time they've ever
played you?I thought so.
Who is our rival? Well the mighty Colorado Buffs are our rival. Because the PAC
bosses told us so.
BYU, Utah state fans! Why don't we let the yewts have the mighty Colorado
buffs be there rivalry. The PAC 10.2 wants it that way. What dose the PAC call
it? "Tumble in the Rockies". I say Utah State and BYU should be the only
known rivalry in the state of Utah. Those 2 teams "BYU and Utah State"
will be the only winning teams in the state this year and in the foreseeable
future.Go Cougs!!! Go Aggies!!
I like to see the instate games played. It's good for the community.
Being competitive against the U and y is important for recruiting. It is
exciting to see USU football become relevant once again. For
USU's progression to continue the Aggies need to have success against Boise
and its new MWC foes. That's where rivalries need to grow.GO
This is how I see it:The number of times 2 teams have played each
other is a portion of what defines a historic rivalry ( USU vs UoU - 109; UoU vs
BYU - 94; USU vs BYU - 82). It's not, however, the most important factor.
The most important factor is the current hatred shown between the
two schools. No Utah fan can deny that they hate BYU, the same can be said of
BYU to Utah. That's the top rivalry in the state, hands down. USU fans hate
BYU with a passion as well, but that hate hasn't been reciprocated until
recently. That's the second biggest rivalry. Feelings between Utah fans and
Utah State fans still seem to be pretty friendly, which may signify it's a
healthy rivalry, but it's not as much of a rivalry as the other 2. Almost
every school in the West hates BYU (especially Utah and USU), so I guess whoever
they decide to hate back becomes the biggest rivalry.
No, this is absolutely not a rivalry. This is an older, grown-up brother giving
a beating to his little snot-nosed sibling. The Utes lead the overall series at
77–28. The Utes had won the last 12 games in a row, before last year, and
had won 20 of the last 22. How could it possibly be a rivalry? The Utes only
schedule the lowly Aggies as a preseason warmup. Last year was just the blind
squirrel from Logan luckily finding a nut. It won't happen again for
another 12 years.
swizzy... sometimes that blind squirrel bites that nut until it cracks apart.See you tomorrow. When your season comes to an end!
I think Battle of Brothers would make a fine tee short for Coach BroncoWhat you thinken Mildred???
good luck utes, you will definitely need it, it makes me happy that chrissie
wont be trolling the aggies stories anymore.............look out for
@FelisConcolorI am not saying the refs beat Utah but it was a big
call in an overtime game last year. As for stats and penalties, it was an ugly
game on both sides that had a nail biting outcome. What makes USU
formidable now is Chuckie Keaton. Once he graduates, it's over for USU. I
fear Keeton in the present though. Utah's corners and defensive backfield
as a whole is a huge question mark. Keaton lost his WRs and the RB from last
year, but his offensive line has produced and all are returning this year. In
other words, they are likely to protect him and Keaton is super mobile and
accurate to boot.
Definitely dont see USU as a rival. i actually like the Aggies, and historically
this game hasnt been competitive. Who knows a few more competitive games between
the two and it becomes a rivalry.Whoever wins tomorrow wins by a TD
@EdGrady:"When the Aggies pound the utes into submission in that
glorified high school stadium in SLC, it will be a rivalry."Glorified high school stadium? For sure. Since the glorified jv field they
have set up in Cache Valley even compares!@Mars:"This
Aggie cares not one whit how Ute fans define, classify, typify, describe, or
otherwise articulate the nature of this game."If that were true,
then why do you spend your entire day speculating and theorizing on DNews
comment boards in defense of your Aggs? lol
byufanman:"have the mighty Colorado buffs be th(eir)
rivalry"That will never happen as long as you byU "fans"
obsess so much over everything Utah. Nice of you to stop by and show us your
love, though. We truly appreciate your support! Why do byU
"fans" care so much about the Conference of Champions? A bit of
jealousy perhaps?? Independence ain't so grand, is it? Good luck on your
slightly (one year only) big boy schedule this year. Maybe byU can get a
healthy rivalry going with Idaho. They seem to be the most constant partner on
your dance card!Go Utes! Onward and Upward. Can't wait for
tomorrow!!@AggiePride:"Almost every school in the
West hates BYU"Almost? You're being a little conservative
there, aren't you?@Ifel Of'a-sofa;Are you
going to be there? If so, wave at me - I'll be in the NEZ wearing red.
I've been a Ute fan since childhood, though I can honestly say the Aggies
are my second favorite college team (went there for graduate school). Besides
the week we play each other, I think most Ute and Aggie fans like each other and
want the other team to do well the rest of the season. In terms of it being a
rivalry, I say yes it is; a much friendlier/ sane rivalry than Utah vs BYU.
After the game tomorrow, I hope the Aggies win every remaining game on their
schedule. I especially wish I could be in Logan when USU lays another Cache
Valley beat down on BYU. I do miss Aggie Ice Cream something fierce (way
better than the BYU Creamery in my opinion). Go Utes, Go Aggies.
A Utah/USU rivalry is like Utah/Wyoming. A BYU/USU rivalry is like
BYU/New Mexico. USU is so far out there no one really cares. They
might as well be in Idaho or Wyoming. Seriously, USU needs to find a rival
close to them instead of hoping and praying to find one in Utah because the two
other big schools school are already rivals. USU/Wyoming rivalry
sounds about right. Both out in the middle of nowhere with agriculture and
hicks with rarely a top program in any sport and academics are average. BYU and
Utah and rivals with each other, no one else. Any other true "rivalry"
is one-sided by any other fan base, especially USU."When the
Aggies pound the utes into submission in that glorified high school stadium in
SLC, it will be a rivalry."Immaturity at its best. Utah can't
lose to USU at home and won't do so with a new coaching staff. Utah, beat
little step brother and end this conversation.
Rivalry or not I have to admit I am going for USU this year. I love the Utes
but some PAC 12 fans need to be humbled and I think USU has the better team this
year. WAC, MTW, Indpendent or SEC may the best team win.
@That's A Good OneYou are right BSU is really the favorite of
the WAC 2.0. But do the aggie fan's really know that? Either way you
didn't disagree with me about Utah beating USU. And I'm not really a
Ute fan. Just when they play the Aggies.
Strikeout, the game Thursday night will be a close hard fought game. However, when the y shows up this year in Cache Valley the cougars will be
dominated much worse then the last time they made the trip to Logan.
Sofa,It will be YOUR season over tomorrow. Since
you're part of a non power league, one loss and you are out of any
significant bowl picture.Meanwhile....big brother Utah
will be in Rose Bowl contention until the last 1-2 games of the season.Jealous much?Yes!GO Utes!
Go Big Blue!!!Sorry, but you won't be facing BYU's base
defense the entire game because Jamie Hill won't be around to not call any
defensive plays like he did in 2010.
@All aggie fan'sHow did the game go?
