This poor girl can never "un-do" these images or what she's become in the minds of so many people--a public prostitute. Even if she someday wakes up to realize how horribly she's exploited herself, the damage is done, not only to herself but to millions. If anyone still thinks Hollywood doesn't destroy, may I present Exhibit A.

No wonder we as a society can't stop objectifying women, or fail to encourage girls to see themselves as potentially powerful creatures in bringing great change and improvement to the world.

And actually, I didn't know MTV was still on the air. Thank goodness we quit cable years ago.

She gives me flashbacks to the days of Madonna and people seem to still love her despite
continuing to this day to display nothing more than porn. It gets attention and brings in big bucks.
Until the audience pulls their heads out of the gutter this will always draw a big audience.

She's due for the next steps, which are meltdown and rehab.

Saint George, UT

Sadly, I think she is reveling in all this attention. She is probably thinking how funny it is that the whole world is talking about her never mind what they're saying.

What is happening to Cyrus, happened to Spears, and many others, the drug, sex and exploitation of Hollywood and the mentality of those in it continues. They pull hundreds into this pig pen many end up in pornography when nothing is left. We feed it because we keep spending on the entire industry. From Dish, Direct TV, to movies and videos we keep spending regardless of ratings. Like other consumer products we are in control but because they reflect us we still spend the money. When we change so will they.

She's trying way to hard to be relevant.

Miley was raised amidst an entertainment culture that, above all else, values attention and celebrity. And, as every student of marketing or anyone who's lived more than even a few hours in our marketing-drenched society knows, sex sells.

So, if the goal of the majority of those one is around is, above all else, attention and celebrity, then the most likely means to that end is the most obvious, however demeaning. She is certainly not the first to have used this device and, if the trend follows, will certainly be only one of many, many more.

This is just another, very illustrative example of the saying that, "If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas." An old story of degeneration that just keeps getting replayed by a seemingly larger portion of each new, impressionable and stupid generation of people. Something for every parent to consider when trying to determine the kind of values they want their children to be absorbing.

Oh not to worry. In a few years this will become the "norm" and Miley will be just the first of many. Unfortunately that is the direction in which the morals of this country, no, the world is heading. Not too long ago, movie stars lost their billing and popularity for experimenting with drugs. High school girls who got pregnant were literally unheard of, and if it did happen, they were taken out of school and even sent away by their parents. Rock stars like Elvis Presley and the Beatles were considered evil and the downfall of a generation. Actions which caused an uproar a few years ago are now completely acceptable and normal. We are on a downward spiral and the actors and actresses of Hollywood are anxiously promoting this degeneracy.

Haven't seen the YouTube clips but what a shame.

I thought she was great on "Hannah Montanna"....it was a good show, a clean show with some decent writing and my kids and I enjoyed it. It wasn't "great" but it was a good show. And then what did she do after that exact same show made her SOOOOOOO rich and famous?

She publicly said she was "embarrased" by ever playing the character of Hannah Montannah.

How ironic...."embarassed" is how I feel for you, Miley.

In all seriousness, good luck figuring out your life. I'd start with a long, private talk with your dad. He seems to have a lot more sense than you do....

Madonna, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus all chose to go the route of shocking in order to be famous and make money. It seems likely that there is a lack of confidence in their performing abilities and obsession with being famous that leads them to try to shock audiences. Unfortunately, this is a vicious cycle as it leads to less self-esteem and the need to be more shocking and so on.

And, then there are the impressionable fans, some of whom will buy into and emulate this behavior not realizing the end result.

Desperate People stoop to desperate acts.

BTW -- even 'liberal' MSNBC ripped her performance

Shock entertainment is so 90's.
God is the answer these days Miley.

Totally amazing what passes for "music" and "talent" and "entertainment" these days. People seem to lap up anything that's totally absurd, which must leave those with real talent wondering what they have to do to be recognized. Ever watch "America's Got Talent?" You have people on there moving right up the brackets who would have gotten laughed off the stage back in my high school several decades ago.

Tooele, UT

I have to say that I agree with A Guy with a Brain. My family and I also used to watch Miley on Hannah Montana. It was a clean show. I think she needs to have a very serious father-daughter talk..she's going against all the advice he gave her when she was a young teen. I am also glad that I don't have cable or dish to watch any of this trash.

Florissant, MO

What disgusts me is all the media attention she is getting, it is one thing for her to act like this, but it is very offensive to have it played over or photos shown or even a discussion about it. So she wins, she acted stupid and stupid media is not letting it go.

Clearfield, UT

A former child star gone dirty is far more marketable than a girl that starts her career that way, and show business IS a business. Hope it works out better for her than it did for Dana Plato.

Salt Lake City, UT

Here is my BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Loud and clear!

She should have been boooood off that stage.

Springville, UT

She wanted media attention and the Deseret News obliged. Job accomplished.

By the way, parents ought to block the Disney Channel. We do. I think they're a bad influence and it shows. Their programs consist of a simple formula: having spoiled brats act obnoxious.

Provo, UT

Her father is the reason she is the way she is.

Cedar Hills, UT

This isn't surprising for MTV. Garbage in garbage out. People need to stop complaining and just turn this sleaze off. Actually just never turn it on in the first place. Most of MTV is raunchy and most music video's ...like rap ...are the bottom of the barrel so what does it say about you if you are watching it? This little Cyrus girl is lost in life ...much like Lindsay Lohan and will continue to spiral downward just like Lindsay. The poor parents of these girls have to be sick to their stomach to see their daughters mirroring the lowest and the worst of society.
