Most teams can compete with Bingham for a quarter due to adrenaline. Bingham
simply wears teams down as nobody plays both sides. Bonneville was a decent
team that will do very well back in Idaho. A thousand fans were obviously
disappointed with the outcome. Most teams simply don't realize the feeder
system that Bingham has in South Jordan. The kids are taught Bingham pride from
2nd grade up to high school. Kids want to play at Bingham.
Not to disrespect Bonneville, but I would have rather seen Bingham play the
Idaho state champ from last year, Madison HS from Rexburg. I just think Utah
football is better and very underrated across the country. Year in and year out
we are beating teams from Texas, Colorado, California, Hawaii, Florida, etc. I
know we have taken are lumps as well by some of these same states. But I would
love to see Utah on some of these ESPN HS football games pitting states against
states. Last years games at Rio Tinto was a match up of some of Utah best
against some of the other nations best. Why not work on some of that. Does
Comcast have another classic this year with two great games?
It was a win that took awhile to get going but not a lot to brag about. They
were playing a team that enrollment wise is a 3A team in Utah that had its first
winning season in some years last year.
I think that team would beat a lot of teams in utah and will do well in Idaho.
That being said I don't think anyone is bragging about the win. There 1st
string was good but after that it went down hill fast. Bingham needs to clean up
the penalties which a lot of comes with a first game. Congrats to the Bees for
coming down and playing well. I went to the Fremont Jordan game Friday too and
Bonneville was a way better team than Fremont. Bingham's real test will be
against Valor Christian, they will be the best team that they play all year. The
McCaffery kid is the best player I've ever seen play in high school.
It didn't matter who was out there, they were still going to lose with the
horses on Bingham's side. Two best teams this yer are East and Bingham.
Both are too big and too fast and too deep again.
UtahBruin,Riverton is playing Madison in Pocatello this Friday at
the Rocky Mountain Revue. When they got invited Coach Miller said the only way
he would go was if they could play the best team in Idaho. Looking forward to
UtahBruin you'll get your fill these next few weeks. Jordan is playing a
team from California. Lone Peak and Bingham are travelling together to Colorado
to take on two of the best teams from Colorado (I think Mullen has dropped off a
bit, but they're still a quality program). Alta gets another big team from
back east. East is playing Kahuku. Should be fun to see how Utah stacks up.
Per capita I would say Utah has the best football in the country.
Cougars1, I hate to tell you this , but the Madison team Riverton will be
facing will not be close talent wise to the team that won the 5A state
championship last year. They graduated around 20 senior starters from that
team. All of their recievers, and the QB last year were over six feet tall and
fast. That was a special team and you won't see that from Madison again
for awhile. I hope Madison can play with Riverton. They have visited Holt
Arena in the past and have done very well in the dome. I don't think they
have ever lost there and I don't expect them to on Friday. I want you guys
from Utah to understand that every game this weekend in Holt arena pits a
smaller Idaho team against a larger team from Utah & Nevada. I would like
to see our schools play against teams closer to their same size and I know you
would see better matchups. Just so you know Idaho enrollment numbers include
freshman and Utah's numbers don't.
I watched Valor Christian on ESPN, they are legit. #5 is shifty and one of the
best running backs I have seen. Bingham better bring more than I saw Saturday
or they will get run over. Good luck. #fingerscrossed.
Cougars1, I just want you to know that the Madison team that Riverton will be
facing does not have near the talent that last year's state championship
team had. They are losing around 20 senior starters. All of their receivers
and their QB were over 6 feet tall and very fast. They run a spread offense
that just created match up nightmares for the defenses they played. I bet they
scored over 35 points a game. Madison is also a much smaller school than
Riverton. Madison's enrollment is around 1350 students and that includes
Freshman. If I am not mistaken Utah only counts grades 10 - 12. That being
said I hope Madison gives them a good game, but Riverton has done very well in
the dome in the past and I expect them to continue to do so on Friday night. I
believe Riverton has never lost in the dome. I wish Idaho schools would play
schools closer to their same size, every game in the dome next weekend in the
dome pits a smaller Idaho school against a larger out of state school.
Sorry, for the double post I didn't realize they had to be approved.
J Ram, actually the schools in Utah from the Canyon school district does include
enrollment from 9th grade. They changed this year to 4 year high schools
including 9th graders.
adwight - Having played high school football in Ohio and then having followed
high school football in Ohio, New Jersey, California, Illnois, Missouri and
Utah...I don't believe Utah has the best football in the country...per
capita or not.I think that due to open enrollment...Utah has created
a few super-schools that have very good football teams...Bingham, Jordan,
Cottonwood, East and Timpview. As a whole...Utah football has a long way to go.
The day that Utah ends open-enrollment...you will see a sharp rise in the level
of Utah football, a rise in the competition and a rise in the number of good
teams.Consistently, the Top 5 states for high school football are
Florida, Texas, California, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Utah typically comes in
somewhere between 20 during good years and 35 during bad years. The things the
top states do that Utah needs to do: No open-enrollment, using power rankings
for playoffs instead of region wins, reclassification less often (Utah does
every 2 years), keeping open-enrollment/private/parochial schools in the same
region/division/conference.In the end...Bingham is a good school and
the 5A champ will go through them.
I've lived on both sides of the border and am very familiar with the Idaho
schools. I do believe the talent level in Utah is superior. That's not
always a guarantee of an automatic win though. That said, I'm certain that
the very best 4A or 5A in Idaho, be it Madison, Highland (Poc), Couer
D'Alene or Blackfoot to name a few, would get throttled by Bingham on a
neutral field. If you ever look at the Boise State roster (Boise being the most
successful college team in the Mtn West region), there aren't many Idaho
kids on it. It is however loaded with California based talent. In Utah however
there is a higher proportion of Utah kids mixed in with the imported talent.
Who watched Bingham vs Valor Christian last year? Christian McCaffery scored 3
TD's in that game and Nonflammable still won 21-20 in OT. But Valor
Christian looks better this year.
FatMan86, I disagree with the statement you made about the talent level being
higher in Utah. I believe the overall talent is similar in both states. It is
hard to compare because Idaho schools rarely play Utah schools that are similar
in size. Case in point this weekend at the Rocky Mountain Rumble in Pocatello
Madison with a 4 year enrollment of 1373 plays Riverton with a 3 year enrollment
of 1998. Take away Madisons freshman and they would be around 1030. They will
be playing a school almost twice their size. Minico with a 4 year enrollment of
995 will play Park City with a 3 year enrollment of 998. Take away
Minico's freshman and they are around 750. That is not a huge difference I
like that matchup. Finally, Shelley with a 4 year enrollment of 613 will play
West Jordan with a 3 year enrollment of 1821. Take away Shelley's freshman
and they a have around 460 students. Look at the size difference that is close
to 4 times smaller than W. Jordan. Look at Bonneville with their 4 year
enrollment of 1302 playing Bingham with a 3 year enrollment of 2495. How can you
If we're talking strictly talent, enrollment really doesn't matter.
We're not talking enrollment per capita. Just total talent. And Utah has
the edge on total talent.
I think Bingham should just start scheduling the University of Utah and play
them every year. They are obviously way too good for any other high school team
in the nation and they need to just make it a college program over there in
South Jordan to start competing with the big boys.
he's baa-ack! Fromont's looking impressive.
I agree Papi. They are better then the 2 they've played so far.
That's all that matters. Jealousy is a great form of flattery. Thanks for
