As an elementary school teacher of over 30 years, I've seen the Three Bears effect. Many parents are "mama grizzlies," running in to protect their cubs from any possible discomfort. Other parents are totally hands-off, uninvolved, etc. And then there are the "just right" parents, who seem to have a knack for being supportive, yet not overbearing or "helicoptering." I appreciate the parents who can be supportive, yet allow their children to grow by working through problems. I appreciate parents who will come and talk to me, as the teacher, before running to the principal if they have a complaint. Most things are best worked out at the classroom level with the person who works with the child daily.

Thank you, parents, for helping your kids through the intense elementary school years. That is not an easy job.
