The reason that Utah ranks so high for low student debt is because tuition costs here are low, including for the largest private university. Thank heaven Utah has not allowed academia to take over the state legislature as in some other states where the education lobby helps to shovel astronomical sums into universities (and the rest of the education establishment!) where the money has ended up driving salaries ever higher with little real benefit to education or the students. In some schools, professors believe that multi-thousand dollar salary and benefit packages are "required" to attract talent. You can blame a national spending spiral in education for the mentality.

Thank you to a cost-conscious legislature and a key non-profit for keeping a very good education affordable in Utah. It is the best investment we can make in the future.

I'm guessing professors and other university personnel should just work out of due benevolence. Heaven forbid they think they should be paid!

I would hope those instructing my children in college are not paid in the thousands, but in multiples of tens of thousands. I think when you push too far into the hundreds of thousands (or too much over $100K) that I start wanting to see more justification.

If the gov't shovels astronomical sums into universities, that would lower tuition, not increase it, since that's money the university doesn't have to then ask the students for.

Since most professors demand that society should practice "social justice" and "redistribute the wealth", why can't they loan their teaching out to better society? Take one for Uncle Sam if you will?

It's funny how they lecture us that you are a horrible person if you do well financially. Especially when you work and save. Think of those that sit on their hands and consume welfare. And like those black boys in Oklahoma that were bored and decided to gun down a white man. If only we had given them a Wii instead of an Xbox to play with. That would have prevented the murder.

Where is obama on this? Shouldn't he explain the tragic loss of human life? Then again the victim isn't black and wouldn't look like his son. So who cares about another black on white crime? But, when it's a latino/white on black crime then it's the same as white on black racists crime.

A bit off topic, but, it's what the professors teach us about....upside down logic.
