Bingham's defense would stop any wing T offense from any state in any
region, East included. Coach Peck's defensive numbers are the most the most
impressive against that type of offensive.
My point is this. Bingham can schedule a 4A school like Bonneville High Idaho
but they can't schedule a game with a 4A in State power like Timpview or
East because these teams are to good. To be the best play the best. I would like
to see a Bingham and Timpview game or a East and Bingham game. Not a Bonneville
Idaho and Bingham game. 4A in Idaho is like the new 3AA classification in Utah.
And what's your point Digs relating to Bingham not playing Utah 4A teams?
Bingham does play a 4A team from Idaho. Bonneville High. Not a top team.
FYI, Sato took over for Bevan in 93. Not sure if Bevan took over the AD from
Keith Chappel at that time or not.
It was after that Parry. Sato has only been the head coach for about 13-15
years now. And Bevan held it until then. I don't think it has anything to
do besides why play a good 4A team, when you can play a good 5A team?
Markymark: Peck was actually an assistant at Bingham in that 88 loss to Provo.
I don't think that has anything to do with it. There really isn't
anything to prove with playing a 4A team. I spoke with coach Peck about it a
couple of years ago. There was a chance for a Timpview vs Bingham game a couple
of years ago, but the only time TV would do it was in place of the Bingham/Alta
game at the U. There was no way they were giving that game up. There just is
really no reason to play a 4A team when you're a top 5A team. It's a
no win situation. You should win that game. And if you don't for some
reason, it can send your program down the tubes for the season. Just
doesn't make sense. And I agree, Bingham isn't really to concerned
with East being a power against them.
Re: ParryBingham has tried to schedule Timpview multiple times, including
last year and timpview wouldn't play them. Why would peck care about what
happened in 1988? He started coaching there in 2000. Since no one really runs
the ball against Bingham I don't think they would be to worried about east.
the last team to run the ball against them was alta with shaq. Binghams problems
have always been against the pass.
I am a 5A fan, but I would go 50/50 with East vs Bingham.Last 2
years East would have won. Ball control, both teams run heavily. Would be a
low scoring clock eating contest.Remember, East was beating Jordan
last year after 3rd qtr then game was called.I also believe Timpview
would have beat anyone (except Jordan) in the state. Easily. It was the best
offense. So The gap has closed between 4A and 5A powers. Not all
4A...but the top 6 in 4A would all make the 5A playoffs easily. Timpview, MC,
Highland, East Bountiful and Logan.
Airliner: Alta didn't lose half their team this year. Sr's were
allowed to stay there without going to Corner Canyon. Alta will be extremely
tough to beat this year. Especially with Van Orden helping with that offense.
East, Highland, and Bountiful would lose EVERY time if they played Bingham.
We might as well compare Wisconsin to Alabama if we're going to compare
East to Bingham.
Bingham would beat East 9 out of 10 times. Peck's teams are more
disciplined. The Leopards were exposed against Timpview in the semi-finals, a
team that had similar talent but played more disciplined and won handily. Until
I see different Timpview is the team to beat in 4A. And no doubt Region 3 is
tougher than Region 6. I think it would be ludicrous to say any different.
@markymark, good point, although Highland won it in '10, Bountiful a few
years before. Not talking about the last ten years, talking about this year.
Bingham may be the best in the entire state, I'm just not impressed with
the rest of your region. Ata will be down, you just can't lose half of
your team, including the majority of your sophomores and still be one of the top
in all of Utah. Brighton hasn't impressed me since playing for the title
in '97. You are absolutely right, preseason polls mean nothing.
It's too bad that East and Bingham aren't playing, that would be a
Re. AirlinerHow many state titles have come out of that region in
the last 10 years?
No one knows about other teams besides the one there kid is on, and half the
time there wrong about that. So it's a good thing for everyone that no one
commenting on here really knows what there talking about. Lets just let the
teams play do the talking. That's why preseason rankings mean nothing.
Other coaches have no idea what's going on at other teams right now.
Can't wait for the games to start.
This is a great region, but in all do respect, I disagree with the CH coach
saying its the best period. I think the teams of Region VI pose a solid
argument. Their top 3 (East, Highland, and Bountiful) could stack up against
Brighton, Alta, or Bingham. Brighton is not that good this year. They have the
D1 talent, but they've had it in the past and have never been able to do
anything with it. Jordan will finish in the top 3 of region instead. Big, big
game on the 23rd between East and Alta. If Alta wins, I will come on here and
admit that I was wrong.I just hope that CH can field a team after
the brutal gauntlet. Seriously, who is this guy, "best region,
period,"? Has he coached HS football before?
Just as an FYI - Alta will not even be 5A in the next realignment and Corner
Canyon will never be a 5A school. They have split it so that neither school will
be big enough in 2-3 years to be a 5A school.I am not sold on
Bingham, so I would also go with Alta as my region pick with Bingham 2nd. There
is no way I would place Jordan behind Brighton based on the past few years. And
certainly, you cannot underestimate what Jordan has brought in over the summer
from out of state and from surrounding schools. Until I see a roster I am not
willing to drop them all the way to 4th.West Jordan and Copper Hills
are fighting it out for 5th, neither team will beat any of the top four this
This is definitely a great region. It also seems a bit unfair. They could have
balanced the regions a bit better in football (and every sport). For example,
they could have made these regions:Region 2: Brighton, Hillcrest,
Alta, Cottonwood, Jordan and Taylorsville. When Corner Canyon goes 5A put it in
this league and maybe move Taylorsville to the next region below (what would be
Region 2).Great natural rivalries from the past and all east side
schools except Taylorsville which used to be made up of Cottonwood boundaries
before created. Thus, all past natural rivalries and decreased travel.Take Bingham, Riverton, Copper Hills, West Jordan, Granger, and West and put
them in this league called Region 3. All west side schools, with easy quick
access to the freeway or Bangerter Drive. Now the Black and Blue game
can be played in a neutral site. The regions are much more balanced
now and probably travel time is reduced for many schools.
I really believe the state champ will once again be either Alta or Bingham, and
I think it's about a toss up.I am picking Alta to win the Region
title, with the only discernible difference in the regular season being that
Alta has the Miners at home and the fact that Alta now has Van Orden helping
with the offense. Van Orden as Chipper Luceros coach should make for an
impressive year at Alta.Bingham may run for 4,000 yards this year with
their O-line and the tailback and quarterback. The only question is play
calling, it seems that Bingham wins because of great talent and not great
offensive schemes, although I think Peck is the best head coach in the
region.Brighton and Jordan will also be tough, both have outstanding
players, but I think Alta and Bingham are a step above everyone else. Just
listing the number of talented players in Region 3 is impressive when you look
at it and I can't wait for it to begin.
