As a spouse and a parent it is hard to find balance. A tradition I would recommend is a couple vacation once a year. We have done this ever since our oldest was little. It was usually only one or two nights away but it was so rejuvenating, especially when we had a house full of young kids. It took a great deal of planning, effort and budgeting but it was worth it. We found our sense of humor returned and having uninterrupted conversations was amazing. It helped us remember why we got together in the first place. We also found we appreciated our kids more when we could get a few days and nights away each year.

Nice to read this article, which I've just discovered, by Mr Katz. It shows signs of a good balance in his life; I'm glad he can find time to be with his sweetheart. They will be there when the children, well-raised and hopefully on the right track, are raising children of their own.
