    No question that the utes had a great run. I like Whit and consider him to be a good coach. The facility upgrades are underway. Recruiting (on paper) seems to be improving. But now that the afterglow has been pretty much extinguished, the question is begged -- when will the next Urban Meyer come along and who is gonna fill that role of re-igniting the program and getting results on the field?

    We see the silly comments you make each day and write them off as you trying to stir the pot. This time you have gone too far. The teeny tiny minuscule amount of credibility just went sailing out the door with your 8-4 guarantee for the utes this year. There is 0% chance this happens. Where are you going to get these wins? You actually have to play a couple of the tough teams in the Pac 12 this year with Oregon and Stanford finally on your schedule. I am guessing you suffer from dyslexia cause all I see is 4-8. mark it down christy

    No I got the point. I know it's hard to admit, but again numbers don't lie. Utah didn't improve in year 2 of the PAC but rather declined. Decline is decline, regardless how u spin it.

    ------------

    Actually, Utah didn't decline as much as the PAC-12 teams improved. In 2012 (5-7) loses at UCLA and at Oregon State were wins at home in 2011 (7-5).

    Utah isn't declining in talent, in fact our talent has been steadily improving since 2009 (according to Rivals).

    The difference is the level of competition has increased, even from PAC-12 Season 1 to 3.

Look at the scoreboard. And if they were to tee it up today, they'd flatten Utah yet again. Whit and Utah know this, that is why they backed out of their series with Boise St. Utah can beat weakling BYU and USU all day long, but in the PAC they are nothing, and that little nobody school in Boise isn't afraid one bit"

    Where in the world did you get your "facts" from? The record books show Utah is 2-5 against Boise State. I believe it's the Cougies that have never beaten Boise State (0-3 against the Broncos). Apparently you are making a false assumption why Utah canceled the Boise State game back in 2011. Utah had to cancel the Boise State game so they can put BYU on their non-conference schedule. As a result: 54-10 happened on that terrible September night in Provo.

    You better look again then he has lead his team to undefeated seasons and BCS bowl wins. He absolutley dominates Bronco on the field where it matters as well. @cougsndawgs

    I believe you are the one who missed the point. Uteology was merely pointing out that the reason for Utah's decline over the past two years is their obvious increase in competition in the PAC 12. There are no weeks off, like there were in the MWC. BYU, on the other hand, has done a good job of scheduling a few good teams, balanced with 4 or 5 lower-end WAC teams guaranteed to pad their win total. This way voters in the polls back east who do not see their games can glance at their overall win total and, if they end up with only 2 or 3 losses, they will vote them in as a top 25 team at the end of the year. It's fairly ingenious. However, people who truly follow the football teams out west know better.

  • Cougsndawgs West Point , UT

    Uteology:
    I think you missed the point. Utah is in decline:

    Since 2009:
    2009- 10-3
    2010- 10-3
    2011- 8-5
    2012- 5-7

    Pretty hard to argue with numbers when they exhibit fewer wins and more losses every season since 2009. I do hope the utes can turn it around but I think trying to argue they aren't in decline is a losing cause.

    RECENTLY??? LOL at the spin.

    The Broncos have owned the Utes since they upgraded their program to FBS.

    "...what has Boise State done that makes you think they would be any better than Utah or TCU in a real conference?"

    The Broncos have curb-stomped the arrogant Utes every time they've played during the BCS era:

    26-3, 36-3, 26-20, and 31-28

    The truth is, Boise State would be much more competitive in the PAC 12 than then Utes have been.

    @fatman86

    One more thing about accomplishments, Utah success and some pressure from Congress paved the way for Boise State and other mid-majors:

    "Prior to 2005, non-BCS schools had to finish in the top six to get an automatic berth. That meant the likes of Tulane (12-0, No. 10 in 1998) and Marshall (13-0, No. 12 in 1999) didn't get a shot.

    Utah did break through, finishing sixth in 2004.

    It took the threat of Congressional intervention for the qualification standards to be loosened prior to the 2005 season. Since then, WAC champions Boise State (2006) and Hawaii (2007) have taken advantage of the top 12 threshold to cash in on lucrative BCS paydays."

    Yes Boise State has owned us recently.

    But as far as accomplishments what has Boise State done that makes you think they would be any better than Utah or TCU in a real conference?

    More NFL talent? Nope. Better recruiting? Nope. Better facilities? Nope. Better coaching? Hmm, debatable.

    Boise State would own Utah today? You mean like how they owned BYU at Boise last year 7-6? And that was a 8-5 "bottom feeder" BYU team that was ONE play from going 7-6.

    "If with a win against BYU, U still weren't good enough play in a bowl."

    Let me get this straight. A BYU fan talking smack against Utah and their ability to play in a bowl? A quick review of the facts: The U has played in a bowl game 9 out of the last 10 years. During that time they are 8-1. Their overall bowl record is 13-4, for a winning percentage of .764. BYU, on the other hand, has a 13-17-1 bowl record, for a percentage of .433. The facts speak for themselves.

    It's true that Utah missed out on a bowl game last year by one game. This comes with playing a much more difficult schedule now in the PAC 12. They don't have the luxury of playing 4 or 5 weak WAC teams to pad their win total like BYU has done.

  • GoRed WEST VALLEY CITY, UT

    @smart aleck

    On what do you base your statement that all Coach Whitt gets are losses? He has owned BYU since he became head coach. He had more victories than Bronco had until he began playing in the much harder PAC 12, as opposed to BYU's schedule of feasting on lower-WAC teams. You call him an "embarrassment for the state of the program". How on earth do you come to that conclusion? You don't see him coming up with gimmicks such as "Quest for Perfection," putting hokey slogans on the back of players jerseys, etc. All he does is focus on putting out a competitive, no-nonsense program year after year. Tell us again how that is an "embarrassment for the state of the program".

    @fatman86

    Your comments are the reasons why most fans in Utah hate Boise State. Your fan base doesn't seem to realize that if not for Utah, there would have been no national recognition for Boise State. If Utah hadn't busted down the BCS and earned the right to play in the Fiesta Bowl, there would have been no Oklahoma-Boise State game. You Boise people owe everything to the U.

I don't think he even believes half the stuff he spouts off about in his comments. Utah may have a bad season or they may have a good season, nobody knows for sure and how does it make BYU any better if they do have a bad season? How will you (BYU fans) feel better about BYU if Utah has a bad season? Will you feel better about not being in a Big 5 conference? Will it validate the move to independence? Will you feel better about yourself? Your job? Your family? I doubt it. For Pete's sake it's just a game.

    Nice thought, but wrong way. BYU has got to keep winning and stop drawing attention to themselves with stuff like this name thing. BYU ought to know by know, of all people, that every time they do something like this they cross the line of NORMAL, especially in the football arena. The no play on Sunday tells the world of sports where BYU stands. The Pac 12 and the Big 12 sure have gotten the message. Lets let our kids just play football as good sportsmen, living an Honor code, building further on BYU's already nationally respected sports Tradition, while developing a Spirit of hard work and never quitting in these young men and women. Lets not open ourselves up to the "what ever floats your boat" comments, or those who would rather misinterpret BYU's intentions instead of appreciating the thought.
