Coach wit really trying to play the PAC 12 angle in hopes it will help with other recruits. Fact is it had nothing to do with the PAC 12 as anyone who is not complete moran could tell from the article

Hopefully AZUTE will accept u Pita seeing that you're only a 2 star on scout and unrated in rivals. Maybe he'll allow you to play for the scout team since he has so much to do with the ute program and their 4 star status. Lol

BYU = stupid. You find a place on your roster for this kid. You just had a scholarship player retire due to injury. Where did his schollie go?

Complete moran? Sigh...

Wonderful representation.

The young man chose well... he accepted the challenge of testing and improving his considerable skills in one of the strongest football conferences in the country.

Bummer for BYU but congrats to Utah, seems like a stand-up kid. He should represent his country and his family well.

Howard:
It doesn't sound like he had much choice. He chose BYU but they didn't have a scholarship for him so he had to settle for Utah. Who knows what the deal was with BYU not having a scholarship for him when they obviously offered...some mismanagement issues I'm sure. It's hard to juggle at times at BYU with the missionary program. It's not the first time it's happened and won't be the last.

Those grapes are pretty sour, aren't they? And the reason this player is "only" 2 stars (like other football flops like Eric Weddle and Alex Smith), according to many BYU pundits when he committed to BYU, is because he's only played one year of football.

You'd look better if you just admitted that this one got away. You know...take it like a man.

Yeah. A "moran". Like Erin Moran, who was in Happy Days.

Speaking of Happy Days, congratulations to the fine young man joining the Utes!

I wish him the best. He is a young kid trying figure things out.

Star lotulelei was originally headed to BYU then the offer was pulled and he did great at Utah.

Manti Teo was originally slated for BYU then the offer was pulled and he did fine at Notre Dame.

Not sure why BYU lost this kid but it is a loss. I hope he does great at Utah.

BYU will do fine without him.

How does bronco let one of the best recruits in last years class get away.

Pretty raw but obviously talented enough to play at the next level. Hopefully he can become a great player.

Happy to have him as a Ute!

Its a shame Pita will be wearing the crimson red instead of the Cougar blue. I hope he still goes on a mission before playing, but it sounds like he changed commitments for the chance at playing immediately.

I remember another stud athlete both teams wanted out of Bingham who chose Utah over BYU to have a chance to play right away. Even though he was the top in-state recruit that year he only has saw limited action and most of it on special teams wasting eligibility. I'm not even sure if Langi is still on the team at this point.

Lost Murphy by not tracking scholarships correctly... What is up with BYU managing the scholarship numbers and commitments?

"It doesn't sound like he had much choice."

Ahhh... the old reliable "he really didn't have a choice to attend BYU" excuse...

With several players retiring due to injury... BYU had the scholarships... he just chose Utah... is that too hard to admit?

This will likely be another scholarship mishap that the Cougars will lament. I think of how the Cougars would be better off if Jake Murphy had his scholarship available at the Y when he needed it...

Flubs will happen though, and both BYU and the U of U have good programs. Best wishes to Pita at his new school of choice, even though I was hoping to see him playing for the Cougs.

Steven:

Harvey Langi is actually serving a mission. I had wondered what happened with him also.

Steven S Jarvis says...
"I hope (Pita) still goes on a mission before playing"
"I'm not even sure if Langi is still on the team at this point."

Langi is serving a mission, just like you hope for Pita. He will rejoin the team in 2014.

Star Lotulelei did not meet academic standards and couldn't enter BYU, his scholarship waited for him while he went to Snow. He ended up at the U because the academic standard was easir to meet. Too Bad BYU lost him but it was because of his academics not BYU pulling the scholarship.

Manti Teo never accepted BYU's offer because he saw Notre Dame as a better choice. His offer was not pulled

You didn't mention Jake Murphy but he chose BYU out of high school, but left on a mission first. When he came back early the Y didn't have a scholarship because he wasn't scheduled to be back early. So he and his Dad went up to Utah and talked to the coaches. He chose Utah who did have a scholarship.

It goes both ways sometimes. Harvey Unga was a Utah recruit but chose BYU after his mission.
Both schools are usually trying for the same good Utah players.
Don't worry about it.

By the way, I am glad he could get into a school on scholarship. But I hope he doesn't give up on the mission because it's far more important than football. Hope Utah coaches keep that option open for him.
