Here's the Orlando Sentinal's Ranking from a couple of weeks back:

"Utah Utes ranked No. 57 in the Sentinel's preseason rankings"...

An improvement... Phil Steel have the at 60th and Lindy's has them at #68.

So how much are the sports writers at the Orlando Sentinel really scouting the Utah teams? For that matter how much do pre-season rankings really matter? I get that it excites the fan bases but rankings really shouldn't come out until like week 5 of the season.

I think some ute fans are getting a little nervous. Bottom of the Pac10.2 ain't far away Utes...

@BacanUtie

Preseason Power Rankings don't matter but "Rival's Star Ratings for Recruits" do?... LOL,

How very typical of the reasoning of the fans for the team from SLC...

We should be ranked in the top 15 and an argument could be made for a top 10 ranking.

Best to leave this one alone Chris B. Greater sports minds than yours have spoken. Accept reality and move on.

This article is not even about Utah yet that's all poyman & cougar indy can talk about. Insecurity is a funny thing.

Utah wasn't ranked in the 2008 pre-season yet finished the year #2 with four wins against ranked teams, which proves the experts aren't really experts, otherwise we might as well skip the season and let the sport writers pick the NC.

Hey - we are still part of the PAC12 and I have my PAC12 banner to fly!

Utah seniors perfect 4-0 sweep

Mark it down

I won't post on byu articles all year if Utah loses

Made some promise last 3 years. You all know I did

I posted all year

I will post all year this year.

@BacanaUte

I completely agree pre season rankings don't mean anything at all.

I agree with other posters that preseason rankings mean very little... it does show, however, that BYU is still a nationally respected program. It's nice when national sportswriters (i.e. Phil Steele) think so highly of your program. Go Cougs!

BYU fans ought to get real nervous real fast. With that schedule, that's probably about as high as they'll get all year.

BCS should have some kind of fraud charges against it for pre-season ranking. There are $millions$ of reason why. Preseason rankings effect end of season rankings. Like how ever year it seem California GB make it into the top 10 only to fall WAAAAAAY below the AP 25. But it takes 6 games for that to happen. Absolute joke. Stop the preseason rankings already.

We all know preseason rankings are OFTEN horribly incorrect, but it seems they must exist, if only to feed the trolls!

Go Cougars and Utes and Aggies! May all these teams do better than their preseason rankings!

Gee, I don't know about you but I read the Orlando Sentinel every day.

@u 90

But of course just as poyman pointed out utah "fans" like yourself accept recruit rankings as if they are gospel. Interesting contradiction in that don't you think?

LOL!

Where will the Utes be ranked after another year of not going to a bowl? Fire the Whitt.com is sure to follow in January.

Starting to get excited about the upcoming football season. Our Cougs should be pretty solid again on D...one unkown is the deep back positions. If they can do well, the defensive should match up well with last year's team. The big unknown is our offensive line. With a healthy Hill, Williams, Alisa, Hoffman, we have strong weapons. But the line needs to protect Tayson & open gaps for our running backs. We'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully things come together and the Cougs have a strong season with a tough schedule. Go Cougs.

@ Chris B:

You'd better post a lot in the next 2 months to try to get your fill. Because if you are man of your word, you won't be doing any more posting for a year on BYU articles. In a way, I will miss that. Much of what you say often makes me laugh.

BYU will win on September 21st. At this point, it's all but a given. The only real question that remains is by how much. If BYU doesn't win by double digits, it will be a bit of a surprise and disappointment.

Mark it down!

Practice up on that upcoming concession speech, Chris. It's going to be needed and I'm sure you can do it with some class.

P.S. I usually find myself totally agreeing with you on other non-sport political oriented article comments. You are usually spot-on in that regard. It's your anti-BYU sentiment that will prove to be your Achilles heal.

@ Mildred:

Everyone knows you are just being your sarcastic self. But to be honest, when the BYU-Utah is finished, most Utah players and fans will believe that BYU really should be ranked top-10, based on the pounding given to the Utes.
Even Chris B might write some such thing in his final BYU related comment of the year.
