@Ducky"utah will not get to either any time soon and I'll
predict they NEVER get to the 4 team playoff. BYU has a better chance of getting
in the playoff than utah ever does."Yeah just like byU had a
better chance of getting to the BCS then Utah did. We all seen what happened
there didn't we? Utah twice in the last decade has gone undefeated and to
the BCS. They Y has one time in their entire history gone undefeated and that
was so far back Karl Malone was still playing for Louisiana Tech. I
can see how you would think the Y has a better chance though.....LOL! I'll give you the next two years 2014 and 2015 they may have a slightly
better chance. At least in these two years they won't be taking a loss in
September that is now routine....LOL!
@Max-was-never-rightMaxy, How did the cougies do the
last 3 years against the utes?
Is it against the rules to stick to facts on here?Robert Anae Staff
Bio | Offensive Coordinator, assistant head coach, offensive line coach2011-2012 offensive line coach (2011-12) and run game coordinator (2011) at
Arizona2000-2004 offensive line coach at Texas Tech University1998
offensive line/running game coordinator at UNLV1997 offensive line coach

offensive line coach at Ricks College1990-91 offensive graduate assistant
at BYU1986-87 offensive graduate assistant at University of
Hawai'i1984 starting lineman on BYU's National Championship
Team.I think with Anae as the OC, concerns about the line coaching
at BYU because of the Offensive Line Coach's "inexperience" will be
just fine, and the OL coach isn't the only coach to move from JC to FBS.
@aggie84" I hope each school does well and expect another 2
close games. Go Utah Schools, especially the original true blue school."I appreciate the well wishes from an aggie and wish the same for your
team. I have alot of respect for what the aggies have done the last 3 years.
the only problem i have is that you are insinuating that the aggies are the
original true blue school. USU was founded in 1888 and BYU was in 1875 so
wouldn't that make us true blue for 13 years more? Just wondering
I like BYUs' RBs. The offensive line is the question mark for me. But I do
think Anae and his offensive staff will improve the O line and the offense as a
whole. Will Tayson Hill be ready and develop his skills this year?
"Thankfully Utah canceled the series so that BYU has a better chance of
accomplishing their "Quest" over the next two years."Unless I'm mistaken, Chris Hill's comment made it sound like the
reason Utah wouldn't be playing BYU those two years was to make it easier
for Utah to end the season with a good record. It's almost as if BYU would
be too much for Utah to handle.
The U has veteran coaches at all positions, and their players are all 4-5 star
recruits. Don't you guys know that being part of a BCS conference is more
important than actually winning games. Going bowl-less again this year wont
happen. They're king of the hill now a days.
Uteology"Playoffs? Don't talk about -- playoffs?! You
kidding me?! Playoffs?! You better first hope BYU can win a another game against
Utah!"Beating Utah will be but a minor speed bump on the way to
BYU's first appearance in the playoffs. It's laughable that
fans of a team that hasn't beaten a single conference foe with a winning
record would be whining about what fans of a perennial Top 25 team talk about.
It's obvious to anyone not living under that crimson bubble on the hill
that a perennial Top 25 and national championship winning team has much better
odds of being selected for the playoffs than a team that is rarily ranked and
has never won a national team or individual award of any kind.
WOW. The utsies are out in force today. I think they see the writing on the
wall about their own team this year and are lashing out at BYU to detract
everyone about the train wreck on the hill and yet another failed season.it's great to be a Cougar.
BYU will play in the Rose Bowl before utah.
So Howard S comments on a first-year assistant coach. Every coach has to have a
first year somewhere. But why all the comparisons to Utah by responders? What
does Utah have to do with BYU's new assistant coach?I apologise
to you, Howard, on behalf my fellow Cougar fans who see the world in comparison
to Utah.Newsflash: BYU plays one game with Utah. Utah plays one game
with BYU. Other than than that nothing is relevant between Utah and BYU. They
don't matter to BYU and we don't matter to them. Both teams have
bigger fish to fry.
@DuckhunterBYU has a better chance of getting in the playoff than
utah ever does. ------------Playoffs? Don't talk
about -- playoffs?! You kidding me?! Playoffs?! You better first hope BYU can
win a another game against Utah!Thankfully Utah canceled the series
so that BYU has a better chance of accomplishing their "Quest" over the
next two years.
Ed,We own byu...and we have nice facilities.
Making meaningless "predictions" is as good as it gets for Utah fans.
Correction...Predicting Utah's future and the kraft fight hunger bowl is as
good as it gets for the byu "fans". lol.
Utah football is completely irrelevant - but heh they have nice facilities.
@ekute"The Rose Bowl and the Playoffs are as good as it gets for
Utah."utah will not get to either any time soon and I'll
predict they NEVER get to the 4 team playoff. BYU has a better chance of getting
in the playoff than utah ever does. LOL!
ekute"The Rose Bowl and the Playoffs are as good as it gets for
Utah."LOL! The Utes will be lucky to be bowl eligible - 3-9
could be as good as it gets for U.Meanwhile, another Top 25 finish
and bowl game are the expected standard for the Y.
fanman,The Rose Bowl and the Playoffs are as good as it gets for
Utah. The kraft fight hunger bowl is as good as it gets for byu.
This is the most depth I remember BYU ever having at the RB position. Still not
sure if I take any of them over Unga or Staley, but I'll take all four over
any four RB who have been on the team at the same time. Both Williams and Hine
have the potential to be remembered among the Top 10 RB ever at BYU. Williams
has already had the most impressive Freshman campaign of any RB at BYU.
Howard:"If you're not concerned about the youth and inexperience
of the BYU offensive coaches and players you're just not facing
reality".I am a Cougar fan that has openly expressed some
concern with the O-line, new schemes, etc. Of greater concern to me is why it
concerns you so much that you feel the necessity to express it ad nauseum on
these boards. Aren't you more concerned about the inexperienced CBs or
mediocre LB play at Utah? Any concern about the questions along the O-line
there? How about concern with not having a RB that even approaches JW4's
ability and quickness? Seems a true Utah fan would have plenty to worry about in
his own neck of the woods.
"If you're not concerned about the youth and inexperience of the BYU
offensive coaches and players you're just not facing reality. But hey... if you think youth and inexperience is the key to success... then
you should be very optimistic."I wonder how Howard responded to
Whittingham promoting Brian Johnson to OC.
To all the Utah fans that always show so much interest in the BYU football team.
Do any of you know how your team is going to do this year? Are all of you
looking forward to your bowl game this year? It's against Colorado right?
Don't you call it " Rumble in the Rockies"? WOW!! Enjoy because
that's as good as it gets.
It will be interesting to see how each of the big 3 will compete in the running
game. Interesting to see how each of the 3 will compete against their schedule.
I do believe the Aggies have the advantage, best qb and returning offensive line
to go with a really fast returning running back in Hill. I hope each school does
well and expect another 2 close games. Go Utah Schools, especially the original
true blue school.
@idabluIf you're not concerned about the youth and inexperience
of the BYU offensive coaches and players you're just not facing reality. But hey... if you think youth and inexperience is the key to success...
then you should be very optimistic.
I am a huge Utah fan, and let me just tell you I'm glad I misread the
title. I thought it said "Death of BYU running back..." Whew, nobody
die this year please.Go Utes!
Sammy, IF we need an excuse, #1 will be...That it doesn't
matter because we beat byu 4 in a row. lol.
So what Howie,Atuaia was a pretty good running back at BYU,so i think that makes
him a better coach than you ,have not seen your name as a coach on any team
anywhere,so what makes you such an expert, that,s what i thought you.re not.
Haha. Utah didn't go bowl last year.
hey howieThis is the Utes 3rd season in the PAC10.2 From season 1 to season 2 we saw a downtrend, will that trend continue? Is this the fault of your OC who never had any D-1 coaching experience
or was it just an overall lack of talent of the 3 star level? Will an
old has been OC make a difference or is it just a tough SOS, or again a lack of
talent of the 3 star quality that will be the Ute excuse this year? We're dying to know the #1 excuse that will be used in Uteville this
Howie"This Atuaia's first year of coaching at a competitive
level... ever.""The O-line coach has never coached a game at the
d-1 level..."Oh my, oh my!! What shall we do?! Our season is
ruined! We don't stand a chance against anyone!Thank- you so
much for reminding us all of that little known fact. Now all us BYU fans can
worry together. Now, would you remind us again, just one more time,
about the inexperience of the offensive coaches?
Howard,Are you assuming that Atrix was insinuating ANYTHING about
the character of Utah running backs? Wait....you already answered that.
@AtrixHigh character? Are you assuming something other
than high character among the Utah running backs?
I would take BYU's top 3 Running Backs over Utah's any day. High
character, extremely athletic, and if used right they will be very successful.
@idabluWhy yes... since you asked...The OL coach has
never coached a game at the d-1 level... that combined with new and
inexperienced o-linemen and a new offensive scheme are a recipe for success in
the opinion of the Cougar Nation.
HowieNow wait, you're telling me this is the first year
coaching for Atuaia? I hadn't heard that. Are there any other coaches with
limited experience on the BYU offensive coaching staff?
howy, how did the utes play in that bowl game last year?
Hey Howard,If you kick a dead horse 1 time or 50, he is still not getting
up. We are all aware that Atuaia is a first year position coach. Thanks for
pointing that out for the millionth time.(eye roll) I am not any more nervous
about him than I was about Doman being a first year OC. In other words, as
a BYU fan, we really have no choice but to have faith that he will do well.
First year running back coach?Don't try to gloss over it BG...
say it directly...This Atuaia's first year of coaching at a
competitive level... ever.
Very promising running backs this year for BYU. With a new O-line coach,
I'm hoping for great offensive production from this unit this year. Austin
Collie said that Jamal Williams will go down as the best and most athletic
player EVER at BYU. Go Cougars!
With a hurry-up offense, they are going to need all the running backs and
linemen they can get. If they can move the ball downfield, everyone should get
plenty of playing time.
Great coaches will continue to build on the inherited talent, and that means
recruiting.Mike Alisa is a senior and next year Jamaal Williams and
Adam Hine will be juniors, they all won't be around forever. There is a guy right now, coach, that attended junior day and is loaded with
talent, who doesn't have an offer that you've been holding out on, who
deserves an offer. You know who I'm talking about.Either way,
enjoy the talent you currently have and Go Cougars!
