@Lambert
I beg to differ with your portrayal of illegal aliens as refugees. The narrative persists, despite the data.
Something like 57% of illegal aliens are from Mexico. And they are overwhelmingly from sleepy, rural areas of Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacan, San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas. These are not the areas of Mexico governed by drug lords.
The reason they are here is NOT to escape violence; they are here for the money. They can make $50 a day here. Their cousins in Mexico make $50 a month.
Let's not paint them as martyrs. They are here for the money and our endless stupidity to give them freebies.

JPL - There are 3.0 billion who would flee violence and risk arrest. We just can't accomodate the whole world. Lots of charities that you can donate to to help aliviate the situation. We do bring in 1.8 million per year on legal visas who have been waiting, on average, 12 years to legally immigrate. I have seen them standing in line at our embassies in many countries of the world. They are the real immigrants. I have compassion for them, none for the illegal migrants who jump the line.
