Broom: "It seems that recruits jump at offers from BYU and wait to see if something better comes along" - update

Isaiah Nacua, byU's highest rated 2014 commit, according to ALL reporting services, decommits yesterday. Add to that Fred Warner openly stating that he is looking at ALL offers and weighing all offers to make a decision that is best for him (which hardly sounds like a solid commit). And, add to that the fact that of the remaining 8 2014 byU recruits, 4 are listed as "soft" verbals. You are indeed right, they seem to all be waiting for something better to come along. Luckily for them, something better usually does!!

    Go Utes!!

The recruits have gotten much better in recent years for Utah. Whit is still a solid coach. So the increase in losses on the field is simply due to better competition and lack of a QB. Utah won when they had Alex Smith and Brian Johnson. Such is football. You need a really good QB to win most of the time. I am not sold on Travis Wilson. Yet I am still optimistic.

3-Star DE Isaiah Nacua has de-committed from 2-Star byu!

His other 2 offers are from UTAH/ASU! Guess where he's likely to end up? LOL

As it currently stands per Scout, 2-Star byu has 4 2-Stars, 3 3-Stars and 1 NR! Good times!

"SOS doesn't mean much if you don't do well against it. According to Sagarin's SOS rankings BYU finished 26th and Utah finished 61st last season. Meaning that Utah didn't do very well even when SOS is taken into account. Utah's SOS was 72.91 (41st) and BYU's was 69.48 (63rd). SOS is meaningless without the results of taking on that SOS!

Arkansas' SOS was 9th in the nation but they did so poorly that they finished ranked 65, do you want to argue they were better than Utah because their SOS was so much higher?"

Nice try! Only in the world of 2-Star byu fan is beating Idaho/NMSU, etc., better than losing to USC/UCLA, etc. and only in the world of 2-Star byu fan is the head-to-head result utterly meaningless!

2-Star byu knows nothing about what it's like to play against a legitimate week-in, week-out grind of a schedule! Their 2013 schedule is no different, as it's ripe with weeks-off in-between their tougher games! Contrast it with UTAH's mid-season 8-game week-in, week-out grind and it's obvious that there's no comparison, whatsoever!

    Kralon,

If only there were a way to see which team was better regardless of SOS. If some how we could pit Utah against BYU to see who could emerge victorious. It's a mystery!

KVN does indeed have some unfinished business. He still needs that last loss to go a perfect 0-4 against Big Brother.

Star ratings don't mean much. If Utah is winning the recruiting war as you allege, why is it not turning into wins on the field? I'd rather "lose" the recruiting war, but WIN on the field.

    To Kavika Fonua,
Both schools are fine universities. But please take a look at the number of secondary each program has put into the NFL.
Too bad rules won't allow Eric Weddle to take you out to dinner and verify all that Morgan has told you.
But once you are on the team, you will have lots of chances to meet him and receive some tips from him and many other utes that are both active in the NFL and in supporting their alma mater.

    To my fellow UTES--

Remember this name--BREIDEN FEHOKO--He's a 2015 DL recruit who was head-and-shoulders above the rest at this All-Poly Camp and was proudly wearing his brother V.J.'s U jersey. He spent a great amount of time on-campus during Spring Camp this year, shadowing V.J. throughout. From everybody in the know, THE U continues to be the team to beat and they're all convinced he'll become a UTE. Once it's all said-and-done, he'd most likely be the highest-ranked recruit our program's ever secured!

His cousin, S.J. FEHOKO, is a local 2014 S recruit which appears to be equally locked into THE U.

Tremendous things are brewing up there on The Hill!

"And they seem to be slipping behind in the recruiting wars this year. 'Mark my words,' Fuga will be a 3-star, maybe higher, once he is rated by Rivals and Scout."

Neither you nor anybody else can possibly guarantee what a kid's ranking will be! Regardless, as it currently stands, 2-Star byu is looking to fashionably follow-up their 2-Star 2013 haul, wherein 19 of their 28 commits listed per Scout were rated 2-Stars [This is 100% fact, I kid you not!], by already securing commitments from 4 more 2-Star recruits out of 8 total commits listed to date, whereas UTAH has only 1 2-Star recruit listed out of their 6 total commits!

2-Star byu's avg Stars per Scout to point for 2014 is 2.50! UTAH's is 3.00!

"The 'improved" recruiting doesn't seem to be helping much on the field. Remind me what bowl game Utah played in last year. Did they finish in the top 25? I can remmeber seeing them listed in either of those categories."

Not only was UTAH's 2012 SOS significantly stronger than 2-Star byu's, UTAH continued their utter domination of 2-Star byu in securing their annual-victory over them, making it 3 straight, 4 of 5, 8 of 11 and increasing their overall record over 2-Star byu to 56-34-4! And yet, UTAH barely missed their 1st bowl game since '02 by merely 1 game! Conversely, 2-Star byu absolutely/unequivocally needed Weber State, Hawaii, Idaho & NMSU firmly entrenched within their schedule, in order to ensure their bowl-eligibility so as to be able to go play in their 3rd tier bowl game!

Finally, during this current BCS Era, UTAH is 10-1 in their bowl games, while byu has struggled mightily to reach 6-5! Impressive! Regarding The Top-25, neither UTAH/byu finished the season ranked and rightfully so!

I fail to see your point in asking either of these 2 questions!

Ya, like Selver Sailiga, Jake Murphy, Star Lotulelei, Davion Orphey .......

That and the fact that so many of byU signees have only one offer - byU. Doesn't seem like ANYTHING else "comes along", let alone something better. But, thanks for the attempt and thanks for your support for all things Ute!! Come again.

    Broom Hockey Champ:

Rivals has now updated their site to include Fuga. Fuga is still listed with 0-stars....most likely because they had not yet gotten around to rating him, but you are DEFINITELY busted for xlaiming he'd been rated 3-stars. How frantic and emotional of you.

    Broom Hockey Champ:

"Being part of the "BCS,"...doesn't seem to be helping Utah at the All-Poly...Since the camp, BYU has signed 2 and little brother has signed 0."

Judging by the results of our last 2 recruiting classes, it seems more like the Pac-12 HAS been helping the Utes in recruiting, whereas going indy, and playing WAC football had sent our little brother's recruiting spiraling downward.

"It seems that recruits jump at offers from BYU and wait to see if something better comes along when offered by Utah."

No, it rather seems that mendemidmajor jumps to offer a recruit as quickly as possible out of fear of losing a solid kid, whereas Utah can take their time in selecting the right players for our program. Kneejerk reactions have always been the Indy-WAC way.

"Fuga and Takitaki - both 3 stars with significant interest from 'bigger' programs"

According to Rivals Utah never offered Takitaki, so it isn't as if you beat us out for him. And seeing as how neither Rivals nor Scout have any record of Fuga, there can be no way they'd rated him a 3-star. You made that part up. Very sad.

Great write up Dan ! Its becoming more and more clear that Utah is separating itself from byU. Utah is the Elite team in this state and has complete control of the recruiting landscape.

Utah wins the recruiting battle over byU 9 out of 10 times.

Utah is also doing great at fighting off their new conference rivals like ASU and UCLA. The tough one right now is beating out Stanford.

    Go UTES

Being part of the "BCS," which is disbanding soon enough, doesn't seem to be helping Utah at the All-Poly. I think recruits are starting to figure out that being part of the PAC isn't all that and a bag of chips if you lose, perpetually, and sit on the couch in December. Since the camp, BYU has signed 2 and little brother has signed 0.

Fuga and Takitaki - both 3 stars with significant interest from "bigger" programs

It seems that recruits jump at offers from BYU and wait to see if something better comes along when offered by Utah.

The poly community is KEY for Utah now, and in the future.

We wont win most recruiting battles with USC and Oregon. We get that.

We WILL however win most recruiting battles with the non-AQ Utah schools.

One advantage we do have over many of the Pac 12 schools is a large Poly community right here in Utah.

We'll still have to look to places like Texas and California to recruit our speed, as Utah has little to none of that due to the population makeup. The coaches are currently doing a fantastic job at that. If you look at our speedy guys the last many years, rarely are they from Utah. Utah coaches thankfully know this is the truth.

But for the lineman we're more than stocked with the Poly community

    Go UTES!
