Howard,
Serious question here, what is the coaches name you mention that has never coached a D-1 game?

Gored,
College Football Universe's ranking of Utah playing the 5th hardest schedule in the country as opposed to BYU's 42nd can be explained by the fact those two teams play each other.

@Whoa Nellie

Tujague has never coached a D-1 game and on top of that Atuaia has never coached at all...

Terrified yet?

@gored - "One publication, College Football Universe, has Utah playing the 5th hardest schedule in the country as opposed to BYU's 42nd." CFU has BYU ranked 32 and Utah ranked 85. Do U agree with them?

gamedayr has Utah schedule at 18 and BYU at 25. Common sense tells me that gamedayr is more accurate. Utah may have a slightly tougher schedule, but not much. And even though this is both schools toughest schedule, neither are Top 10 SOS.

What think ye?

Virginia - Arizona
Texas - Oregon
Middle Tennessee - Colorado
Utah State - Utah State
Georgia Tech - Arizona St
Houston - Washington St
Boise St - UCLA
Wisconsin - USC
Idaho State - Weber St
Notre Dame - Stanford
Nevada - Oregon St

Dick you want a big splash? You'll have to wait a year when BYU announces they are joining what was the Big East or American Football League. Yes, they get a Boise St share of the TV pie. The fact that the MWC sold its soul to retain Boise is why no other up market team would join the league. If the new league can hold onto Louisville and Cincinnati adding BYU gets them a decent TV package and first dibs for the 5 Conference Bowl castoffs. Remember you read it here from 'ole Lightening

I think this will be a really good media day. Probably one of the best ever.

RE: GoRed

“Also, we haven't had the luxury of playing 5 WAC cupcakes to pad our record each year, misleading the sports writers back east to think BYU has actually earned a ranking.”

The SOS shtick is getting pathetic. Even last year, when we did play FOUR WAC teams, they weren’t padding our schedule nearly as much as the cupcakes the Utes faced. BYU faced TWO WAC cupcakes (New Mexico State and Idaho), USU (who beat the Utes), and ranked SJSU. NO WAC teams in 2013. Meanwhile Utah played the aforementioned WAC team USU (and lost), Northern Colorado, a 3-9 Cal team, Washington State, and Colorado.

“Yet, for all of your boasting of what a difficult schedule you have, the Utes' schedule is still much more difficult. One publication, College Football Universe, has Utah playing the 5th hardest schedule in the country as opposed to BYU's 42nd.”

And the more reliable and accurate Phil Steele has Utah at #18 and BYU at #25. Hardly “much more difficult.” Further, Phil Steele has BYU playing in EIGHT marquee games, which is more than the Utes are playing. Everyone has BYU ranked higher.

I love how half the time the ute trolls ONLY want to talk about winning...

"3 of 4, 5-8, we won 2 bcs bowls."

and half the time the want to argue it is the strength of schedule...

"We are going to play the 5th hardest schedule..."

I am excited to see what ute trolls come up with next when BYU beats the u and has more wins.

Then what are they going to say?

Terrified yet?"

You do realize that Anae is an offensive line coach first and foremost right? That's where the majority of his coaching experience is. You sound like a fan who is desperately trying to find any reason why BYU will not be in a bowl game again while you're at home humming jingle bells and making sugar cookies. Sorry Howie, we will be busy so we won't be able to go caroling with you...again (sorry :(.

Remember the question, If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears, did it make a sound?

Perhaps the question could be rephrased. If a new conference is held in Utah County and only Dick Harmon is there, did it matter?

STuFOO:
That's easy:
"BYU barely beat us because some guy in the booth completely missed a replay because he is a BYU grad, even though he wasn't the head review official"...and "we still have a PAC12 logo in our window and play a tougher schedule"...and in their best Wizard of Oz voice "pay no attention to that 4-8 record behind the curtain!!"

@Cougsndawgs

Anae didn't set the world on fire when he was at BYU the first time... now he's implementing an entirely new offense with two inexperienced coaches and an inexperienced QB recovering from injury.

Sounds like a receipt for success.

To Howard S:

Some of your comments makes readers wonder if you haven't been living on another planet. You said BYU's new offensive coordinator has never coached a D-1 game before. Wow. Not even close! He's coached as OC the 4 years at division D-1, including the last 2 years at Arizona under 2 of the most respected offensive-minded college football coaches of the past decade.

Also, BYU will be starting a QB that Utah's coaches would trade anyone on their team for. QB has been a huge weakness for Utah lately, and their record verifies it. Even BYU's backup QB is at a quality level that would make Kyle covet... after having to start a true freshman half way thru last season.

Because the average BYU fan is obviously so much more in the know than you are, we are actually excited, not terrified of this season. The prospects of yet another big-conference cellar year is something that is legitimately terrifying.

Just to verify just how wrong your media day assertions are, please actually watch BYU's media day events... including all of the media questions and coaches' answers.

Give to Ute trolls a break. I am happy to provide a forum for them. Criticizing BYU is just about all they have left. Have some compassion!

"Then what are they going to say?"
We're not worried about it...but it were to happen...

We'll say "It doesn't matter because we're in the Pac12 and you're not!" lol.

Go Utes.

To Howard S. again:

Anae's worst season record while at BYU was much better than Utah's record last year. And since he was at BYU last time, he's had the opportunity to be groomed by 2 of the most respected offensive minded coaches in college football while at Arizona.

So you are exactly right... it actually does sound like a recipe (not receipt) for success. And on September 21st, you and every other Ute troll who posts on BYU articles will find out just how much so. By then, USU will have also beat you... again!

ekute
Layton, UT

We'll say "It doesn't matter because other things are more important than football." lol.

To ekute:

That's your rebuttal? Really? Wow, the truth must really hurt.

Do you keep saying "Go Utes" because they haven't been going anywhere for awhile? Never mind. That's actually a rhetorical question with an obvious answer. lol.

ekute
Layton, UT

We'll say "It doesn't matter because the game was close and we had better stats." lol.
