OH, please. Let's not blame Eagle Mountain because some like this moved there from Michigan.

Holly Richardson said that midwife births “are typically very natural.” The problem is that babies don't always get the memo that their births are supposed to be typical. Placentas don't know that they're not supposed to detach prematurely since the midwife doesn't have the expertise to deal with the resulting hemorrhages. Uteri don't know they shouldn't rupture because the home is not equipped with a blood bank or an OR.

Every home birth midwife is acting "out of that scope." Modern obstetrics in the US has lowered the neonatal mortality rate 90% and the maternal mortality rate 99% over the past century (see the CDC paper “Achievements in Public Health 1900—1999: Healthier Mothers and Babies, 1999). Why should we go back? Don't mothers and babies deserve better?
