We ought to rethink zoos, allow animals to have more space and live in more of a
natural habitat instead of a caged environment.
We were at Hogle Zoo this weekend, and I am impressed with the changes at the
zoo. I was telling the grandkids that when I was young, all the animals were in
plain concrete cages with bars. Most of their habitats are more
"natural" now, and they get better care (and sometimes diets) than if
they were in the wild. Did you read the part where some of these animals would
not even have survived otherwise? The zoo has spent a lot of money making
these improvements. And if not for a zoo, where could most kids see polar
bears, giraffes, and other animals? My only complaint is that a visit there
is very expensive. I wish we could go more often.
