I think it was my mother who explained to me what Dad was "for", that he worked hard to earn money to feed, shelter and clothe us all. He even gave us pocket money. That meant he loved us and was unselfish. A good explanation.

He did also play with us; he could, and did, lift us up on his shoulders and give us rides on his back, and piggy-backs. He made us laugh and taught us good philosophies about life: "necessity is the mother of invention" was one of his favorites. He taught us to work hard and was pleased when we did well at school.

I loved my father and still do. I miss him now he has gone but I think has gone to a good place.

God didn't exactly "give us" either Dads or Momss. Without either we wouldn't even exist. Perhaps he chose a particular one for us. God himself is a father.
