I like Costco. I shop there. There is one thing that really bothers me about
them, however. They won't build a store anywhere unless they get tax
breaks. Not enough to make a profit--they also have to take advantage of the
taxpayers. In Spanish Fork they built right next to Macey's, direct
competition but Macey's didn't get a tax break.
@ Danish American"....but Macey's didn't get a tax
break"Well then Macey's should get a better negotiator.
Clearly the tax break is available if you know who/how to ask. Costco is not
the city local govt and they don't unilaterally decide they get tax breaks.
Your elected representatives give it to them..along with many other
businesses. My guess is you take tax breaks on your 1040 as well.
You should probably stop "taking advantage" of taxpayers as well. Who
do you think pays for your tax breaks? The rich do. While they may pay
generally lower percentages of total income, they still pay the lions share of
total tax dollars/revenue which subsidizes what everyone else uses. You
don't seem to have too much of a problem taking advantage of them.Funny how that works.
@ Danish AmericanNothing with tax breaks to place a business on a
vacant lot that would employ 100 local citizens wit $45,ooo+ average wages with
good benefits. This income gets taxed, it is absorbed into the local economy and
gets taxed all the way down the line. Not to mention these wages allow home
ownership that gets taxed etc....So I don't see anyone getting
"taken advantage" of. I see everyone benefiting. Not to
mention lower prices for area residents from a well respected company.
