A well researched article, my experience fully support the authors conclusions.
We have 4 phones on a Verizon shared plan, all with different
contract experations. If a phone is lost or user damaged we can get a
replacement using an eligable free or reduced price upgrade. If a phone breaks
due to defect, it falls under the 1 yr manufacturers waranty and is replaced
free of charge by Verizon. In essence we self insure ourselves..
I skipped the insurance years ago after, with my first claim (a lost phone on a
desert hike,) they insisted I had to file a police report of a "lost or
stolen" phone before they would consider the claim.
