Bluto#Hartzog held offers from Arkansas State, Texas State and from
Iowa.No stars....two stars.Where is the false bravado now,
Chris B?"Iowa STATE....And he's a 3-Star per 247, while not
yet ranked by Scout, which I suspect will similarly issue a 3-Star ranking for
him....Nice try.Byu clearly has the market cornered on 2-Star
@CougFaninTXPlease tell me which of your commits had an offer from
Alabama.-----------I believe the comment was that Utah
has in-state recruiting "battle" with teams like Stanford and Alabama
for top recruits not BYU. Which is a true statement.
Hartzog held offers from Arkansas State, Texas State and from Iowa.No
stars....two stars.Where is the false bravado now, Chris B?
Phantom and Busters: Yet Utah STILL beat byU for a third straight year.Spin away!!And this year, with a big-boy schedule (which is
STILL easier than Utah's), you will struggle to make your Kraft macaroni
and cheese bowl, while Utah will return from it's one year aberration. But thanks for showing your support for all things Ute!! We love the
little-brother obsession. It's so entertaining!!Go Utes!!
@Redute365 - "UTE recruiting is BLOWING UP ! Utah is the ELITE team in this
state. Overtaking BYU the past decade. Utah dominates in-state and the only
battle we have is with Stanford, Alabama, UCLA etc."Please tell
me which of your commits had an offer from Alabama.
Utah doesn't go to bowl games anymore....and apparently that's a
selling point for this one.
Msg to Bobby: Pls don't take any of the comments here personally. None of
these bloggers know you, but all of passionate about their team & seem to
believe any sort of history is indicative of future results on the field, which
of course we all know is not necessarily the case. What IS the case
is that you can carve your own future at Utah. One example of CB success in the
PAC12 is USC's Nickell Robey, you should check him out on the Internet.
He's a cornerback, and was 5'8" tall and 165 lbs when he checked
in. He has the speed you have, and worked hard at his skills, to the point
where eventually teams avoided his side of the field. I believe he was elected
to be a Team Captain there, a well-deserved honor. Not much space
here to embroider any additional details, but like Nikell at USC, rest assured
you will have the facilities, coaching, and opportunity to succeed at Utah. So welcome to the Utah family! Have a blast, work hard, and enjoy what
will most likely be a very memorable time in your life. It's
GREAT to be a Ute!
VegasUte"Sorry, I mistakenly lumped Hawaii in with the WAC
instead of the MWC. I guess Hawaii will always be a WAC caliber team to
me."It's laughable that a team that only managed to win two
WAC championships during 37 years in the conference would be looking down
it's nose at the WAC, especially when U LOST to the only WAC team U played
last year.Utah's WAC record versus Hawaii: 5-9.You're not even WAC caliber.
Picking the Utes over the Cougars (regardless of location) is always a great
choice.Welcome kid to the Ute Nation!Go UTES!!
VegasUteHere's a recap of your "third" best team in
Utah: - unranked since joining the PAC 12- hasn't beaten
a PAC 12 team with a winning record yet- finished with a losing record and
no bowl after losing to the only WAC team U faced- 1-0 versus No Colo
(lol)- only played two ranked teams, and lost to both- barely beat
Colorado(1-11) 42-35- finished #61 in Sagarin (BYU was #26)Summation: as disappointing as BYU's season was, Utah's was far
worse. While BYU was at least respectable in losing to three ranked
teams on the road by a total of 10 points (including the San Jose State
you're laughing at), Utah spent the season losing to unranked teams.A lucky 3-point win at home over BYU was your only win versus a team
with a winning record. Not at all worried about Bronco, but the Utes
have been in steady decline since 2008 and Kyle's seat could be getting
very warm if he finishes with another losing record and no bowl.Go
Sorry, I mistakenly lumped Hawaii in with the WAC instead of the MWC. I guess
Hawaii will always be a WAC caliber team to me. Doesn't matter though,
still one of the many patsies byU played with last year.
midwacsecondtier - yet your mighty kewgs are still 0-3 (54-10 last time at LES)
and are getting out-recruited by this "supposedly" horrible team. AND,
you are here on the Utah stories. Does not smack of confidence!!Here's a recap of your "second" best team in Utah:
- 1-2 against the PAC (only win against Wassu, who Utah annihilated) -
1-1 against the MWC (.500 against the conference you traded for irrelevance) - 4-1 against the WAC (congrats on the NMSU, Hawaii and Idaho wins!!)
- 0-1 against ND - 1-0 against GT - 1-0 against Weber St
(Huge!!)Summation: One good win at home against USU. One marginal
win against GT. A loss to a "bad team", Utah. Loss to San Jose St
(LOL)! Losses to all other decent teams. And 6 wins over a bunch of patsies.
And you are bragging? Can't wait for your first real schedule
this year. Say good-bye to the Kraft Bowl!! Bronco better get that extension
BEFORE the season starts, because Mid, Sammy, IRS Agent, etc., will be
screaming for his job!!Go Utes!!
I recently read that this guy outran Usain Bolt and actually lapped him in the
100m dash. In addition, he can supposedly dunk from the half-court line. There
is a You-tube video where he actually catches a RPG missle mid-air. He is the
best recruit ever! GO UTES!!
Redute365"Utah is the ELITE team in this state."bwahahaha!Remind us again which bowl U played in last year. You're all talk, but no walk. In two full seasons, U haven't
beaten a single PAC 12 team with a winning record.BYU beat USU which
beat U, but the #16/#17 Aggies(10-3) were clearly the best team in the state,
followed by BYU(8-5), with the lowly Utes(5-7) bringing up the rear.
PACute - Pot, meet kettle!!
This kid will take us to our NC. He will also compete for the Heisman trophy
along with many other trophies that will fill our trophy cases.
UTE recruiting is BLOWING UP ! Utah is the ELITE team in this state.
Overtaking BYU the past decade. Utah dominates in-state and the only battle we
have is with Stanford, Alabama, UCLA etc.GO UTES !!
VegasUteSimply calling out Utah fans for their laughable
@Tom in CA"...blah, blah, blah...".Thank you for
your usual articulate comment.
PACute - yet here you are AGAIN on a Utah story.Like I said before -
thank you for your support and your love for all things Utah!!Go
I get a kick out of all the Ute and BYU trolls on these comment boards. Fact is,
I want all recruits at all Utah schools to succeed. The more great programs we
have in Utah the more top quality individuals in both skills and character we
VegasUte@Riddles: "You based your entire post on what one Utah
fan said a year ago about someone that has nothing to do with this
story?"Riddles' comment simply used ONE example from
hundreds of similarly inconsistent comments from Utah fans when it comes to
comparing BYU and Utah recruits. The exact same recruit praised
endlessly by Utah homers after he's committed to Utah, would be labeled a
bust by those same homers if the recruit had committed to BYU instead. The obsessive need of Utah fans to belittle EVERY BYU recruit is just one more
example of the little brother syndrome that rages on the hill.
Gone fishing: "A 2 star top recruit at wide receiver who is 5'
10"?"This is funny coming from a byU "fan".
byU's top WR in their class is a lower rated two star that is
5'8". But Hartzog will actually be a DB.Nice try. Come
Riddles: You based your entire post on what one Utah fan said a year ago about
someone that has nothing to do with this story? Wow! What Hartzog has to do
with Trammel is beyond me. byU has to thank Utah for byU getting Trammel,
though. If Davion Orphey hadn't seen the light and switched his commitment
to the better school, like so many have done in the past, Trammel never would
have been offered by byU. So, on behalf of Ute Nation - you're welcome!Go Utes!!
Cougar in Texas - I generally don't want to look at cougar stories, most of
them don't interest me. So, you justify yours and other byU
"fan's" negative comments by the fact that some people post
negatively on byU stories? Pot meet kettle!! As far as whether there are more
utah "fan" post on byU stories than byU "fan" posts on Utah
stories, I highly doubt that.@ Agent: You wanted facts about
Hartzog and I gave you one electronic time for the kid as a fact. He has posted
faster, I just don't know they were electronically timed or not. There is
a HUGE difference between electronic and hand timing. But your response it to
bring up Dye? Neither this story nor my post is about Dye. What does he have
to do with Hartzog?? Now who is responding on emotions?? Of course I
don't care that much about Dye, this story isn't about Dye. But, if
it makes you feel better: congratulations on getting a fast, 5'8" WR!
Once again, thanks for coming on board and giving us your love for
all things Utah! We truly appreciate it!!Go Utes!!
u25"Hes rated as a 2 star receiver. Utah wants him as a Corner.
when hes reevaluated as a CB he will get a bump up."Nothing but
wishful thinking; Bobby's 2012 defensive stats:Tackles - 0Sacks - 0Interceptions - 0Fumbles caused - 0Fumbles
recovered - 0Punts blocked - 0FGs blocked - 0
Hes rated as a 2 star receiver. Utah wants him as a Corner. when hes reevaluated
as a CB he will get a bump up.
@BYU Fan in DCThanks for the civil and interesting comment; that
Rocks! I thought the same thing myself. If it were my son, I'd at least
advise him to wait until after the visit before making such a big move. Utah does very well in Texas. They seem to target Cali, Texas and
JUCO's; which has worked over the years. Look forward to seeing Hartzog in
a Utah Uni.
good pick up for the U. Strange that he has never been to Utah though
Carson, I really think you're just fascinated with my deep
insights into Ute football and other meaningless stuff. Many happy
2-3 star recruits to you. I'm sure USC, Oregon, and Stanford fans are
humored at every post you Utes make about the 'superior'
recruiting.You know I am.
Carson, Vegas Ute,Try visiting the comments sections to BYU
recruits' articles and you'll see many more Ute fan comments than here
lining up to disparage the latest BYU commit. Vegas Ute, you are one of the most
frequent. It is fair to ask why you apply one set of criteria to
your recruits and yet another to BYUs. Had BYU received a commitment from a
player with the same credentials as Hartzog, you or your fellow Utah fans would
be all over it with comments about how it is only fitting that Texas State was
the prime competition since they and BYU (Utah) play at the same level.Hartzog may turn out to be a great player, but don't pretend you beat out
Oregon, Texas, and USC for him.
Your obsession with the Utes is truly fascinating Sammy. LOL at the Y fans
who continue to come to Utah boards seeking validationThe BYU meltdown
Welcome to the ute nation Bobby. Lots of Utah secondary in the NFL.Obviously Scalley sees that potential in you.Go utes!
@IRS agent: "and of course you know he has speed because
......?"Because Bobby Hartzog himself says what his 40 time is
in the video. Maybe if you had watched the whole thing, instead of instantly
jumping to the comment board to troll, you would have picked up on that bit of
information too. and Riddles my poor fellow: Let's
keep things in perspective. Utah as a team has speed. byu does not. Bobby is
just one of many recruits who is fast. Trent Trammel will be one of only a very
few at the y who is fast. Don't worry though, I'm sure the U will
gingerly peel the slow y players from the bottom of their cleats after the game
Honestly I was most impressed with his interview. He seems like an intelligent,
humble, hungry kid. I hope he succeeds at the next level. It's always
refreshing to see a football star who isn't full of himself.
@VegasUte,And 2014 BYU recruit Dye was clocked at 4.48 as a junior,
with 15 reps at 225 on the bench (which would have ranked him 10th at the NFL
combine this year). So what? Since he doesn't have enough stars or
isn't going to the U, those numbers mean nothing to you, because according
to you and the hill gang, BYU can't get athletes with speed. It
is hard to justify an arguement based on emotion versus one based on fact.
Another 'run of the mill' recruit, sharing a quote from last
week's Ute commentary on BYU's latest 3 star recruit.So
I'm reminded of a famous line from Star Wars... "You're a little
short for a StormTrooper."I'm sure this guy will single
handedly carry the Utes to bowl eligibility.Hooray for U!
IRS Agent: There are reporting services, other than the Deseret News, that
report such things as 40 speed, and have game film. If you need facts to rebut
an argument, you don't have to go far to find them.FYI - he ran
an electronic timed 4.49 40 at the NFTC in Houston. He IS fast!Go
Tom: "There's always a myriad of excuses why a 2 star player is going
to be great at utah"And you are here reading them all! Thanks
for your support, and come again!!Go Utes!!
theDailyObserver"Because technique can be taught. Speed on the
other hand, cannot. That's the difference."What speed are
you talking about?Utah soft verbal commit Bobby Hartzog runs a 4.46
40 and Utah fans beat their chests about his "speed".BYU
signee Trent Trammel runs a 4.50 40 and Utah fans like Howard S. say:"The best part is he chose BYU over Utah and Boise? He would have been
buried in the depth chart at both Utah and Boise... at BYU he's a
star."Four hundredths of a second is that dramatic a difference?
Get real! The truth is, in the crimson-colored world of
the kids on the hill, EVERY Utah commit, regardless of the number of stars, is
the greatest thing since sliced bread, and every BYU commit, regardless of the
number of stars, would be nothing but a bench warmer at the U.The
inconsistency of the kids on the hill is laughable.
@theDailyObserverand of course you know he has speed because
......?There is nothing in the article or on the video that says
what his 40 time is, or what his shuttle drill speed is. I don't know how
you could possibly make the evaluation or come to that conclusion. I'm sure
it is just that fact that Utah signed him that makes him far superior to anyone
that BYU signs. It is hard to accept your arguement when it is based entirely on
prejudice and not any facts.
So let me see if I have this right. A video with one live play (subject making a
couple of downfield blocks), some footage from a couple of scrimmage plays and
drills (without a clock to see what the kid's times are)and an anecdotal
comment that TCU is looking at him (he doesn't even mention it himself in
the interview), all adds up to looking like "a great athlete", a
"speedy athlete" and "the real deal". If those are
the criteria, I believe BYU and every team in the state has a roster full of
"great and speedy athletes" that are the "real deal". It's
funny how the criteria for evaluating and classifying an athlete is so different
depending on which side of the point of the mountain you are looking from.Chris B -We love your BCS membership. Enjoy it.
@unreasonable thinker: "The top kids are going to the power teams in the
other power conferences"That's debatable. What isn't
debatable is that they sure aren't going to byU!!Go Utes!!
There's always a myriad of excuses why a 2 star player is going to be great
at utah. blah, blah, blah.
PAC man and Reasonable:How do you make time posting on Utah stories,
what with all the tweets that need to be sent to Welker!! LOLGo
@ CougFaninTX "Why is it? When a 2 star commits to the Cougs,
the trail is filled with derogatory comments. But when a 2 star commits to the
Utes, it's a good thing?"Because technique can be taught.
Speed on the other hand, cannot. That's the difference.
Why is it that when a Utah story is posted, CougfaninTX has to make a post?
Thanks for showing your interest in all things Ute, though. We appreciate your
support!FWIW - 247 has him ranked a solid 3 star. It doesn't
matter anyway, because in the end, our lowest ranked player in this recruiting
class will still be ranked higher than most of byU's, just like last year.
Hartzog is rated higher than 3 byU recruits on Rivals, and 4 (of 7) on 247.
It's funny the smack talk that comes from byU when ALL of the ranking
services have Utah ranked significantly higher than byU, and with less
commits.Carry on, you byU faithful. We love the entertainment!!UU32 - Hartzog was playing behind Corporan last year at DB. He will
have more play time his senior year now that Corporan is a Ute! Blazing speed.
Love it!!Go Utes!!
PAC Mman,They are taking what they can get. The top kids are going to the
power teams in the other power conferences.
A 2 star top recruit at wide receiver who is 5' 10"? I hope he can
jump because he will be covered by by people just as fast and three inches, or
more, taller.Does not sound like this is a good fit for success in a
so-called power house conference.
What gives?Bobby Hartzog may be an excellent player, but Rivals only
rates him 2-stars and Scout and ESPN didn't even rate him, so according to
our naval recruiting "expert", Bobby couldn't possibly be any good.
Why would the Utes waste a scholarship on a marginal player?
Must be an under the radar kid, his list of other offers isn't as
impressive as some of the other recent recruits. Hopefully his switch from WR to
CB will be a huge success. Scalley has a knack for finding great athletes from
Texas that do well at the U.
That Texas recruiting base is getting bigger with our Pac12 membership.Go Utes.
Sounds like a good addition. How is he ranked? 4 stars? 5? I want more
Why is it? When a 2 star commits to the Cougs, the trail is filled with
derogatory comments. But when a 2 star commits to the Utes, it's a good
Scalley is a recruiting beast in Texas!Welcome home, Bobby! Welcome
to Ute Nation!!Go Utes!
Apparently TCU is coming hard at this kid.If Gary Patterson and
Whittingham both like the kid, that's good enough evidence for me he's
the real deal.
Seems like a great athlete. Can never have too many speedy
