"Obama didn't go into politics to be a public affairs entertainer". ?? Maybe not but he sure became one. Just ask all the trivial talk shows like The View, Letterman, Jon Stewart, and local radio shows he did. Seems to me his best talent is comedy. At least when delivering lines at things like the White House Press Corps Dinner.

"Obama failed to accept that he had to play the role, unable to overcome his own distaste of political theater, and the result was that his poor performance in the first debate **nearly** cost him the real world position of commander in chief."

==========

Too bad for the nation that his poor performance didn't **actually** "cost him the real world position of commander in chief."

But, beyond what might have been, the real tragedy that is highlighted by this story to me is the apparent need for "political theater". It strikes me as profoundly worrisome that the populace has become so menial minded that it requires "political theater" to entertain/move them.

And before anyone bothers to point out that it has forever been thus, I realize that is the case. The tragic aspect of the whole thing to me is that it is **more** true now than, say, 10 years ago. And, more true 10 years ago than 30 years ago. In other words, we're going in the wrong direction and have been for quite a while.

I wish I knew what, besides catastrophic failure, will get us to turn things around.

This is quite a stretch. Presidents often lose a debate but go on to win the election for a myriad of reasons. BO would have lost the election if the GOP had a candidate and a platform that was more in line with what the majority of Americans can relate with. The Democrats will lose debates in the future but they won't lose presidental elections until the GOP comes back to the "center" of the country.

Gee, this is news? Must be a slow day in the conservative scandal-manufacturing plant.

Obama didn't need to worry about the debates. he knew he had the IRS on his side.

When polls are taken and questions asked that are either liberal or conservative, it always comes out that people who thought they were liberal, are really more conservative than they thought. The GOP is not out of the center, it' just that they don't have the propaganda maching of manistream media to help them the way Democrats do. That is why Republicans lose more than they should. And remember, Obama hardly won a landslide election like Reagan and Nixon did. The country is closely divided now almost 50/50 on many issues. What the Republicans have to do is find a way to use the mainstream media more effectively and then they will win the White House and Congress again.

Obama has Eric Holder to back him up! If you have a dishonest Attorney General backing you, you can get away with anything!
