I live near but not in Boston. Two weeks ago, I visited the City to attend a concert, and got into town early to visit the Marathon Memorial site,. This involved going from the Symphony Hall area to Copley Square and back again. I must have passed by thousands of people during this trek, and I saw literally NO obese people and only a few observably overweight individuals. And I assume that when this report said "Boston", they included at least Cambridge and possibly other close-in suburbs. In Cambridge, I've observed the same phenomenon. Whether in the MIT or Harvard area, great people-watching zones, you'd be hard-pressed to see a noticeably overweight person or a cigarette smoker (they may smoke other things elsewhere).
